Always in the shop. Shop cannot seem to fix.

We bought this van brand new because we where pregnant with our 2nd child and our oldest child is disabled. We are at the hospital three times a week and wanted a very reliable and easy in/out vehicle. I got a vehicle that is in the shop as much as my child is at the hospital. The dealership can never seem to fix any of the problems my vehicle has. I asked about trading it in and about laughed in their face when they told me what they would give me for it. They vehicle only has 27,000 miles on it. What we got was a vehicle that is not reliable and a dealership that is unwilling or does not care about fixing or taking care of the problem. I am extremely disappointed in this vehicle and will not buy another Grand Caravan or a vehicle from this dearlership.

I bought this van because I was pregnant with my 3rd child and needed something a little bigger than what I had. What I got was something that I can't fit a stroller in/ I have to pile groceries all over the place because those don't fit in the back either. There is no leg room in the third row seat. And, we have had constant problems with it. It burns oil. There is so much rot underneath that I can't figure out how it passed inspection, I almost lost a wheel because three bolts snapped because of all the rust. The power steering pump cracked and had to be replaced. Their are numerous other problems with it as well. I thought I would at least be able to get a year out of it until I could afford something better, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

Strength:

No rust, mileage, reliability, cargo/passenger size, few repairs, nice ride, quiet

Weakness:

rotors, spare tire placement (although what are the options?), BIGGIE: Airflow to the back passengers when no fans are on...like to use windows

My "baby" is at 180000 and counting. She's showing wear now. The weather stripping is loose, one cup holder doesn't stay in position, the occasional small repair is becoming the big stuff. I do oil changes regularly, and when she's not acting right, she goes in. Other than the recalls early on, it's been maintenance (occasional belt, one battery, tires) except for the rotors, which are exposed. I'm on my third set. I had to replace the radio, which refused to play FM stations a couple of years ago, and there is a coil in the steering column which was making weird things happen like my windshield wipers doing their own thing and the horn not working. A year ago, the a/c stopped working, and living in the north, I didn't bother to fix it. I just had the wires replaced, and the brake pads, rotors, and tie rods will get done in the next week or so. She has a year to go on the engine since she is starting to leak oil. I wish I could've driven this car for many more years, but my dh did an oil change two years ago, which resulted in the oil draining out of the car and I drove 10 miles before it locked up and I found out what happened. Our driveway was gravel at the time and I never could figure out where the filter fell off. Anyway, that shortened the engine life. The transmission, has just now started acting up, not wanted to shift in/out of 2nd, but changed the trans fluid again and it's minor. So, after this $1200, she's just getting oil changes, and getting replaced within the next year. I had to name my car because it's been around so long and been so reliable. I've put in around $6000 on this car in maintenance and repairs in 10 years. Not bad considering the price was low enough to pay it off in the first 3, and the $6000 in the last 7 has been much less than a car payment. Oh, and I get 22mpg city. I still don't understand why the spare tire was put uncovered under the car. Used it once, and can't replace it, plus yuck, getting it off.

Room, if either for people or junk, when I remove the seats it holds alot more then my Chevy S10 pickup and keeps it dry. With over 150000 miles on it the 3.3L engine pulls strong I can still cruise all day at 65-70. All the electronic stuff still works from the power windows, rear wiper, locks, cruise control all still work with no problems

Weakness:

Body is going before the engine wants to die

Purchaesd car with 31,000 miles in 1996. Have driven it for the last 10 years and put 150,000 miles on it. Have had some problems all happening with over 110000 miles were on it, Rebuit the trans at 113000, starter, radiator, wife ran it off the road during a snow storm at 135000 and had to replace the exhaust oh and I had to replace the head gasket on the inner cylinder bank which the mechanic said was unuasual for the 3.3L engine (I was told to stay away from the 3.0) The body is beginning to rust out due to the salt used during the winter. I just purchased a use 2002 Caravan SE and hope it works out as well

What you get from what you expect from owning a stylish and comfortable minivan.
So far so nice, better than a SUV.

Weakness:

Comsumes much gas due to its heavy body weight as well as its strong physical build (unlike a Japanese minivan).

It is an awesome minivan with over 100k miles on it ( 3.3 liter engine with flex fuel) now. I purchased it brand new, and have kept it well with only regular maintainance - oil changes (5W-30 plus engine oil treatment each time ), trans fluid changes (with BG trans treatment) or partial changes, coolent changes, air filter changes, drive belt change, front brakes change, battery change, tires change, wind shield wiper changes, etc. It has never broken down on me even once, especially on its coast-to-coast trip of about 9,000 miles (D.C. - Boston - Chicago - Salt Lake City - San Francisco
- Los Angeles - Las Vegas - Denver - St. louis - Indianapolis - D.C.) along I-80 west and I-70 east with a heavy load in 2005. Facts speak louder than words in my case here. I read so many people complained about American cars with too many defects, but maybe my Dodge caravan is not a lemon after all, only to my luck and surprise so far. Yet, now it is still running great with regular care in the hands of someone who knows and cares. I have nothing to complain about it so far.

Dodge caravan rear sholder straps don't catch in crash going 35 mph we hit SUV in front of us that stopped suddenly on a On ramp. Front straps hold fine NONE in rear will catch daughter was badly injured when her face slammed handle on back of drivers seat. Test for yourself Dodge Durangos do the same way, jerk front they will ALL catch perfect then jerk rear they WILL NOT catch. All of Kia sedonnas catch ALL of Toyota Sienna's catch, Why not in Dodge? Reported to NHTSA. I hope they fix it before others are hurt or killed.

Not a reliable family vehicle regardless of cost. It is not worth compromising your family's safety at any price.

This is the absolute worst vehicle that we have ever owned. This vehicle is the newest of the five vehicles that we own and has the least mileage with just under 90,000 kms. The vehicle was purchased new as we were in need of a family vehicle for transporting our children and equipment to their competitive sports. Since ownership, we have been inconvenienced along with other families by breaking down on 4 occasions in locations that have compromised our safety. Initially, the problem was a serpentine belt that would frey every 25,000 kms. The dealership patched the problem under warranty on the first occasion but beyond the warranty assumed no accountablility or responsiblity for the recurring problem and inconvenience. On each occasion, we were required to tow the vehicle to a shop for repair. Our own research revealed that the Caravan had reported problems with the serpentine belts and the pulley required realignment. This was completed at our cost recently. The most recent problem was an electrical fire which commenced with the windshield wipers starting on their own and the vehicle filling up with toxic smoke. All occuring on a busy highway. Within an hour of the smoke ceasing and pulling the fuse of the wipers, a fire broke out while the van waited to be towed. If this had not been in a visible location, the destruction could have been devastating. You can imagine the cost of repairing this vehicle. This compiled with all the other problems lead us to believe that this vehicle was never right from the beginning. Other problems since ownership are odometer quit working, transpeed sensor malfunctioned, break cylinder leaking. As a mother, I can not trust my children in this vehicle and will not support the Chrysler industry in the future. Chrysler Canada has tried to convince us that they have made improvements to their brand but who would give them a second chance. The product is only as good as the people behind it. It is not a mystery that Chrysler has lost market share. The residual effect of our personal experience has been costly to Chrysler. Our recent experience has put fear into all our neighbours and friends.

Beginning to think we purchased a lemon!!!

We purchased this 2005 Caravan the end of November, 2005 due to our 1998 Dodge Caravan's transmission going out with no warning at 89,000. We also have had to put 2 air conditioning units in our 98 as well. We purchased our 2005 Caravan with 18,500 miles on it. Within the first week we had it in the shop because the key fobs were bad, which they covered under warranty. The next week we noticed that the passenger side window worked when it wanted. They replaced the electric window motor, which was under warranty as well. We've also been noticing that the heater takes forever to warm up, which is not too pleasant during a Minnesota winter. And now for the latest....we noticed when we go to turn on our headlights they won't come on until we turn the switch back and forth a few times. We are bringing it back in this week for the headlights. We are seriously contemplating getting rid of it for fear we purchased a lemon.

Comfortable, reliable, roomy, perfect for hauling kids around town. DVD player is great for the kiddies on long trips.

Weakness:

No fold-flat seats in the shorty version, and the rear bench is a pain to remove at first; not so bad once you get the hang of it.

Following many hours of reading sales brochures and consumer reviews of available minivan models, I purchased a 2005 Caravan. I have been pleasently surprised at with the smoothness of the ride, reliability, and overall quality. The 3.3L V6 has adequate power/torque provided you are not hauling a trailer or trying to drag-race someone from a stop light. Contrary to what other reviewers have posted, I have not had my transmission drop out the bottom of the van, nor have I had a catastrophic electrical fire. For the price, you can't beat the quality of the new Caravans.
