Strength:

I have an LE model which has loads of options such as power driver's seat, computer and the 3.3 engine. The engine is excellent for highway travel, no problem passing at all. Interior trim and decor is well appointed and very pleasing to the eye. I believe this van is by far the best looking out of all models on the market today. Handles and corners very well and has excellent ride comfort.

Weakness:

Too much interior noise. On bumpy sections, the vehicle makes all kinds of strange noises. The driver's side sliding door sometimes sounds as if it is not closed properly, when it is.

I would recommend this van to anyone. I have been overall very happy with it. I havn't had any problems to date and I enjoy driving it. Hopefully the newer models have worked out all the rattles and if so I might purchase another down the road.

Strength:

The 3.8l V6 is powerfull enough to pull a med. size load.
The double doors makes access much easier. The style is much better then any other minivan on the road. Gobs of options. I have a AWD but have not been able to test it in the snow YET!
Clean interior lines. Fun to drive.

Weakness:

Air filter is difficult to access. Drivers side sliding door creaks when you hit a bumb in the road. Already needs a new front rotar.

I would recommend the Caravan to anybody. It offers a varity of options to suit any disire. I have AWD, quad seating, rear air and power everything except seats. It drives very nice and the handleing is second to none. Dispite some spoty repair problems it still is a better buy then any other minivan on the road.

Strength:

Roomy, confortable, good traction, very nice for out of town trips, relatively

Weakness:

A bit soft in handling, relatively cheaply built, wind noise, some relaiblity issues, expensive parts (AWD), low gas millage.

The AWD model has a v6 3.8 litre engine that is relatively powerful (but not that powerful).
I enjoy the car although it has some issues as I explained above. I find it extremely nice to drive, and with the AWD I feel safe and sound.
It is heavy on gas, and I did have some relaibility issues (45K miles - rear shocks - $400 each w/o labor, some engine oil leaks, the electric window motor died).
Overall I'm OK with the car, but I would have been happier if it did not have those relaibility problems.

"DON'T WASTE YOU MONEY ON A CHRYSLER PRODUCT" I purchased this van less that one year ago. (10 months to be exact) The first 6 months I had no problems with it, but I went on on vaction to Florida and it has been in the repair shop 9 times in 6 months. It has had the following problems over this period: " Three (3) new power steering pumps (and it is currently waiting for a 4th)(1st new pump was installed at 9,800 miles), New front rotors and pads, new clock spring, and new visor clips. I have had to go out and purchase a 1995 Toyota Camry LE so my wife and daughter will be safe to and from there daily commutes. I don't trust my family in this vehicle. I am now in the process of filing for the Lemon Law. The state of Maryland gives you 15 months and or 15,000 miles (which ever comes first) and I am currently at 10 months and 14,000 miles. So I have had to park the van until this process is taken care of. So now I am paying over $400.00 a month for a van I can't drive. I just a large lawn ornament at this point. If I am lucky enough Dodge will end this nightmare and buy this vehicle back from me. I have a 1992 Toyota 4x4 pick up and it hasn't been in the repair shop 9 times in 9 years!! Something is wrong when you buy a new vehicle and you have to repair it as much as a used vehicle. I have tried to buy American and I will be going back to Toyota or Nissan after this nightmare.

Strength:

Our van has good excelleration with the 3.3 liter V6, even when carrying 7 people. Our highway mileage averages from 26-27.5 mpg (compared to less than 20 for my cousin's new Honda Odyssey!). Less expensive than any other similarly equipped minivan. Exceptionally reliable (only replaced battery in 70,400 miles.

Weakness:

Have trouble thinking of any. The sliding door recently became harder to close. When towing our 2400 lb popup camper, although the power is sufficient, the brakes seen underpowered. I shuuder when I ready of so many owners having trouble with the 4 speed automatic transmission. Ours is incredibly efficient and quiet. We have thought about purchasing a new caravan in 3-4 years, but these problems give ups pause. I am hoping that since there are more of these vehicles sold in this country than anything besides a Ford F150 (caravan, voyager, and T&C combined) that the problems are not out of line with the number of sales. At least this problem is not as bad as Toyota is having with the Sienna vans. I understand that hundreds of owners have had to have their engines replaced due to a sludge buildup that Toyota fails to acknowledge. I would appreciate hearing from other owners like us that have had good experiences with the 4 speed auotmatic transmissions, besides us.

Excellent minivan. OUr other caravan (we still drive it with 162,000 miles) has the 2.2 liter engine, and aside from the lousy nippodenso compressor (japanese) has been nearly bullet-proof (also replace the starter and two batteries, brake pads, hoses, two timing belts.

Strength:

It went about 100,000 miles without many mechanical problems. The V-6 engine is pretty powerful!! Other than that I can't think of any.

Weakness:

We bought it about one year used, with approxamitely 25,000 miles on it. To start off with, the dealer lied over the phone about the deal that they could give us. Before we could even drive it off the lot, they had to put in several new fuses, light bulbs, adn other things, so that it was even legal. (The blinkers didn't even work!!) We had the dealer replace the AM/FM radio with a factory AM/FM radio, and cassette player. This was fine, but the cassette player quit working after about 2 or 3 years!! As I mentioned above, it did go +/- 100,000 miles before we had much mechanical trouble, but in the mean time, we had trim parts falling off right and left, (we even had the sliding door fall off no less than three times!!!!) At approximately 100,000 miles, (as if it were timed), things went down hill VERY rapidly!!!! We had been hearing a slight ticking for a couple of weeks, but didn't think much of it, because there didn't seem to be any real problems. But one day we are out running errends, and we notice that we were getting a little bit of a shake or shudder as we accelerated. After each stop, (and subsequent restart), this shaking and shuddering became fairly violent, to the point where it would actually stop accelerating, (as if in neutral), for about a second at a time, before catching again, only to do the same thing agian in a few seconds. At this point we decided that it was time to do something, so we stopped in a place where we were able to replace the spark plugs, hoping that this would solve the problem. It didn't!! We drove it to our local Dodge dealer, (we have moved away from the place where the dealer who sold it to us was), and left it with them. After inspecting it, they told us that one of the valves was cracked, and that the only thing we could do to fix it, was to rebuild that side of the engine, (it has two heads, 3 cyl. per head.) We decided to have the whole engine rebuilt, so that we wouldn't have similar problems with the other side of the engine. While they were doing this, they noiced that the water pump was leaking pretty badly, and and that the battery was in need of replacement. So we had all of this work done, and then they wanted to see it again in a week, to make sure that everything was still working properly after such major repairs. We left it over night, so that they could work on it the next day. The next day they called to tell us that when they had started it up, and put it in gear, it didn't move!!!! After letting it warm up, they were able to make it go, but they determined that the transmition sealing gaskets were dry rotting. We asked how much to replace the gaskets, and they said we were better off replacing it. So we decided to that. Again while they had it, they noticed that the radiator was coming apart at the seems, and that it needed replacement. After this work was done, we had no problems for a few weeks, and then started having problems with the transmition jerking, or refusing to shift. Back to the dealer, who told us that it would require a new transmition computer. Again we had the work done. Later, we are driving down the road, and the thing just stalled out of the blue. (This can be frightening, when you loose your power steering, power brakes, stc.) This time the throttle bodies need cleaning. All in all, we put about $5,000 more into repairing it, than it was even worth!!!! In hine site, we know it should have been junked at the beginning of our problems, but at this point it is worth more to us than to anyone else!! We decided it was time to buy some more reliable wheels, so we started looking at new vans. The Dodge was one of them. We noticed that it came only with a 3 yr./36,000 mile warranty. Ours came with this, plus a 7 yr./80,000 mile powertrain warranty. We asked about the lack of powertrain warranty, and the dealler told us that it cost them too much money to fix all of the vehicles that were brought in under warranty, so t

It gets used as little as possible now. We do use it to haul things around, since we want to keep our new van in good shape, but we don't take in on any trips anymore, because we don't trust it very much, because it continues to give us some problems.

It was probably the best available at the time it was built, but it sure is junk by comparison to the competition available now!!!!

Hauled everything including kids, dogs, and camping equipment all at once. Easy to work on. Easy to drive. Nimble steering. Good brakes. Should I go on.

Weakness:

The 85' Caravan's 2.2L 4Cyl is inder powered for its size, but when you get up to speed its ok. The 88' 3.0L 6Cyl was excelent until it hit about 200,000+ miles and then it started smoking and lose power.WE HAD NO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS!!!!!!! No other complaints about it.

I would recomend it, because I think its a greast value for the money shure its no big SUV or $50,000+ luxury sedan, but for the money I think its one hell of a van.

Strength:

It has been a great van. It has excellent acceleration with the 3.3L engine. We used to have a 4500 pound trailer and seven people and it handled it with ease, even on hills. Excellen sound system in it. Quiet and smooth engine and acceleration. Smoothest transmission in the world. Very comfortable and excellent visibility.

Weakness:

Nothing really. Minor transmission problem covered by Chrysler, even after the warranty was up.

Definitely by a caravan. I am looking at a 2000 or 2001 now. I will never switch to another brand when it comes to a minivan. The windstar's are too noisy, very gutless with their 3.8L, very uncomfortable, crappy stereo, exhaust smell in the cabin, all around a piece of garbage. The caravan, i have to say is by far the best van i have driven, and i have driven a few. I will never buy a ford anythin in my life time. I aint that dumb. Hope all is well when chosing your van.

Gas mileage is around 14 to 18 in the city 18 to 22 highway. No powere side doors on the 2000 model. Some wind noise at high speeds.

We have had a great time with our van. I have had it the shop twice for a small leak from a hose clamp not tight ,and brake hose needed adjusted. Our friends like to ride in our van and they have older carvans. Great for going on long trips. When we drive around town our van has a very quick response to any situation we are in . This is a great van for a good price.
