Strength:

Reliability. No problems with transmission, AC, or other electronics. Acceptable fuel economy (20-ish MPG) for vehicle size. One additional kudo...OUTSTANDING dealership service and response!

Weakness:

Noisy ride. Not due to interior faults or rattling, just not especially well insulated from the road. Interior plastics, while showing no serious wear after nearly 7 years, are also rather "cheap" looking. Two "from the factory faults": sliding door window latch has always popped open unexpectedly, and liftgate window seal leaked black glue from the start. (which, after simply cleaning it up, has long since stopped being a problem and did not cause any water leakage or other issues)

Solid vehicle. Not the smoothest or quietest ride, but has been worth the money for us. Key to keeping problems at a minimum is routine preventative maintenance. Get those oil changes and services done at the recommended milage (force yourself to spend the bucks even if you're not having problems!) and you'll find that the vehicle will last longer and give you FAR less grief. (a lesson learned from NOT servicing the previous van as recommended) Have had zero transmission or electrical problems; routine repair and maintenance only. Very good choice for a large family, for those that just like the extra space, or for long road trips. Fuel economy has been more than acceptable.

Strength:

Suspension, brakes, good ride!

Weakness:

None, except what people are saying. People don't know how to drive cars on the road, quick acceleration and braking can cause engine and transmission problems, just not good drivers out there!

Good Van, others are just too expensive! Buy American, support American.

Strength:

Good pick up handles good for a box on wheels

Weakness:

Read all the others. Peeling paint, brake ind no good. by the time I found out I needed brake work the rotors were shot. When the brakes go they go real fast and will cost $500.00 or more. $1200 on a transmission (of course). Electrical problems with the A/C and heater. I was happy the get $350.00 for it just to get it out of my driveway after the engine finally blew up and smoked to high heaven. ********Note to self........ "Don't buy another Dodge."

Strength:

none that I can think of

Weakness:

An automobile company that doesn't give a rip about the quality of the product it produces. Poor craftsmanship

At first, I liked it alot. I enjoyed the roominess that I didn't get from my car. I actually like the way it looks. Then the nightmare began. I have about 44,000 miles on this van and it's in the shop right now having the transmission rebuilt. I am very disappointed and wish I had reviewed this site before I purchased it. I only hope that I don't go thru the other problems that I've already read about(I had problems with my brakes at about 1000 miles and the front speakers work when they feel like it).I know that this is the last dodge/chrysler auto that I will ever buy and I will discouraged any and everyone I know from buying from this company. I am so anxious to get rid of this van. To those of you considering the caravan, please consider the reviews of your fellow consumers and stay away from this minivan.

Absolutely none.

Can I have a few more pages to list the myriad of problems and the miserable crooks who run Dodge?

This vehicle has been a complete disaster. So pathetic it's almost funny. The brakes went at 37k miles (just after warranty expiration!) and the A/C
went at 50k miles. The dealership couldn't care less. For a/c repairs, they laughed when they quoted me $2k to repair ($1k for new compressor and $1k for evaporator coil). I balked at their generous offer to repair.

Strength:

It just won't die. Strong engine (passes other cars easily).

Weakness:

Peeling paint everywhere.

This thing won't die. I purchased it with 151,000 thinking it wouldn't last long after all I've heard about Caravans. Now, it has 193,000 and runs perfect. Haven't had any problems at all. Did fix the brakes (normal), replaced the rotors and the master cylinder. One heater hose broke and had to be replaced. Starts up every time. Runs smoothly, reliable and comfortable to drive.

Strength:

Smooth running , nice car/van.

Weakness:

Pulls to one side when brand new and told to go someplace else to fix.

Bought this thing with less than 50 miles on it (brand new) after driving on freeway , realized it pulled to the right side , made appointment to fix a week later . They rotated the tires , gave it back to me. Now it pulls to the left . No mention of alignment or wheel balance or wheel bent or anything . I was told to go to the tire manufacturer for their defective tire.

Strength:

Has been 98% reliable

Weakness:

Leaking master cylinder and windows shattering/cracking

REAR WINDOW BLEW OUT (SHATTERED) AND FRONT CRACKED WHEN SIDE DOOR WAS SHUT by my 7 year old daughter. Glass flew 4-5 feet outward. The door was shut softly. This is abnormal and must be a defect somewhere for this to happen!!!! Insurance will cover windows, but what caused and will stop this from happening again? Mild weather and in carport when happened.

Strength:

Comfortable ride, good power

Weakness:

transmission, emission problem, not enough cargo space, A/C

We did much research before purchasing this vehicle, mainly "Consumer Reports" and such, and felt that we were making a sound purchase. We purchased it used in 1996 from the dealer with 35,000 miles on it and were initially happy with it. Within days I noticed a rough down shift when coming to a complete stop (like a "clunk" into first gear), the dealer said that that was just how they shifted, so I got used to it. It also seemed to vibrate or bounce a bit, as if you were going over tiny little speed bumps in succession, this, they also said that they did not notice when they checked it out. It still does that. Soon after the warranty expired (you guessed it), we had to replace our transmission ($1600.00). We were shocked. The mechanic (not affiliated with the dealership) who specialized in transmission repair, said that the Caravan's were notorious for having transmissions go out at, or around, 40,000 miles or so, new or used. I wish that "Consumer Reports" would have mentioned this "slight flaw" when listing it as a "recommended best buy" in their magazine reviews. After learning this the hard way, I think it's probably a good idea to speak to a transmission repair person before purchasing any vehicle because replacing a transmission is an expensive endeaver, and one that should not come so soon in a vehicle's lifetime. We felt so suckered at that point, but we had only had it for a short time and kept it. Before the next major repair, we had pretty good success, just the minor stuff: like the rearview mirror coming off 4 times, the ashtray in the back seat coming lose and finally out, the drawer under the passenger seat not latching anymore (my husband just put a piece of duct tape on the side to keep it closed because it always stayed open and you constanly had to close it because it would "pop" back out and rest right into your calves), the tape deck breaking, the "service engine light" on, the side door refusing to open, locked or unlocked, and having to have the A/C recharged every spring. Which brings me to our latest repair: a brand new A/C at $800.00 this summer. There also is a continuing problem of the vehicle stalling (vapor lock/ emission problem?) when being driven at a moderate speed with the A/C on, it also happens in the winter if the vehicle is not properly warmed up for about 15 minutes. This problem occured a few months after we bought the van, but not enough to constitue a pattern at the time. We were driving on I-95 near DC and we had to quickly stop during a traffic jam. MY Dad was driving and said "great new car you have here" (heavy sarchasm). It was a bit embarrassing to say the least. Needless to say, if we sit for about ten minutes, the vehicle gradually comes back to life, but before that it's like you have a dead battery. Be prepared, when you feel the steering get real hard, think of where you are going to let the car "stall out" and get off the road so that you can wait for it to "fix itself". The repair on this is estimated at $300.00 and we just don't know if we want to invest anymore money in it before another major problem occurs. Otherwise, it does have good power and a good ride, but such major mechanical problems in such a few years have not made us secure in recommending this vehicle to others.
