Strength:

Nice handling,roomy

Weakness:

Poor quality. Replaced brake pads five times in first 10,000 miles. Replaced shocks at 8000 miles. Replaced body shock mounts at 12000 miles.
Check engine lite comes on at random. Had oxygen sensors replaced twice. Recalled for sliding door coming off. Recalled for engine head gasket leaking. Recalled for hood delaminating. Many minor problems. Now the airbag lite flashes a code of "5" the "2" and dealer wants $195 to diagnose the problem. Tires on the front end only last 12000 miles due to weight distribution. This car was purchased new and only has 52000 miles on it. The only solution appears to be to paint it yellow and advertise it as a lemon. I will never own another ford product.

Dealer requires "motivation" to do the work under warranty. When the head gasket was replaced under warranty, they said that the timing cover gasket was leaking and could be repaired for an additional $1100 dollars at my expense. I declined and eight months later, and I still haven't lost one ounce of cooling fluid. This is another cfonsumer ripoff. This is a car to avoid at any price.

Strength:

ggod qualities, has alot of room, love the color.seem's to drive well

Weakness:

transmission out after 1month of owning it. the brakes are acting funny .like jerking, you can hear the anti lock brakes motor.won't go up the mountain good, when stop at the red light van tries to go ,my foot on brakes.it just jerk's off. the check engine light came on 1 week after getting it. no one and i mean no one know's why. they just say codes coming up they never saw or heard of. the local ford dealer told me i should be hearing that anti lock brake motor. well no you shouldn't only in a slid. come on ford tell the truth. what the heck is going on? you know this van remind's me of cancer and my hubsand sad to say has it. they can't find a cure for it. i'll never own another ford. my hubsand has a ford truck 150 the best thing he ever bought. we have a 1977 t-bied best thing we ever bought. windstar ford you can have it back.

i thought this would be the best thing ever cause it has a 5 star safety accomplishment. yea right. it didn't help with the brakes and from what i have read look out everyone having same problem. so what does that tell you? i rate the windstar a 3. because it has beake trouble and no one can't figure it out. and they don't know what the codes mean.

Strength:

interior room, easy to get in and out of

Weakness:

Many things have broken from power windows to door locks, electrical problems and total transmission failure. No power at all up a grade

This is the vehicle that finally made me swear off all American cars, I also have a toyota ( 210,000mi. w/no repairs) and an Infiniti (Maybe the nicest car I've owned yet). Would not recommend this or any ford prod.

Strength:

good power & brakes, comfortable, lots of tech upgrades including video

Weakness:

fit & finish medium to poor, ergonmics are bad some switches are hard to find & not at all intuitive

after 3 months I'm happy w/ it and more importantly the wife loves it. This brand and model were chosen for its high safety rating. It held up very well after a hgwy collision on the 3rd day of ownership w/ only minor damage ~ $1200 - the hynday driven by a young unliscensed driver was totaled. More importantly no human injuries.
If Ford would only pay more attention to ergonomic design. Better mats in a family car would have saved a couple hundred $ from going to the aftermarket.
Video package is great.
Am I the only buyer interested in a luxury minivan? the vehicle was very difficult to find and I worked through 7 or 8 dealers in chicago before I found a compitent one who had a clue in detroit.
Ford's attempt at a web site is horrorific.

That I can't find anything I don't love about my van

I find the 2000 Windstar LX is the best Ford I have had in a long time. I am very happy the quality has been improved and Ford has done a great job.

Strength:

Very reliable and comfortable. We also own a '97 Volvo wagon, loaded with leather and frills -- but we always take the Windstar if we're travelling any distance with kids or cargo. Children enjoy having their own area in back, and the van gets a top safety rating.

Weakness:

Like most vans, the Windstar is expensive. But once we drove it off the lot, we had no significant complaints. There were virtually no repairs during the warranty period. We replaced some tie-rod ends recently to silence front suspension squeaking in cold weather.

I've recommended the Windstar many times. Our '96 has been a reliable, comfortable van -- ideal for families. I expect to keep driving it indefinitely.

Similar Products Used:

Roomier and quieter than the Volvo 960 wagon. At 68,000 miles, the Windstar compares in reliability with our previous Honda Accord.

Strength:

Like the room. Cargo area great even with all seats in place.

Weakness:

Transmission stinks. Occassionally timing seems to be wacked. Changes so hard it jerks the van either reving up or down. Breaks seem to be having continuous problems. Replaced front rotors and pads 5 weeks ago, going back in to have another shop look at them next week. Breaks jump and jerk, and when making a quick stop will occassionally jerk the wheel.

Bought the van in May. Second hand w/ 37,000 miles. Will not buy another one. Transmission 'range sensor' had to be replaced within the first week. Fortunately, under purchase warrantly (not Ford's, it was over 36,000 miles, they wouldn't pay for it). Dealer where I bought it, covered it. Had rotors and pads replaced 5 weeks ago, brakes haven't worked right since. Taking to another mechanic shop, they 'groaned' when they were told the make/model. NOT A GOOD SIGN! Husband drives a 95 Contour, and we've had several recalls on it. Liked Ford before these 2 vehicles, will NOT buy Ford again. Will pay more, if necessary, for a vehicle that should last (as previously stated in other reviews) well into the 100,000 mile range.
