Strength:

comfortable ride, plenty of power, full of great options that put your passengers in total comfort, and runs on 87 octane.

Weakness:

motor can be a little loud (only when blowing by the competition), smooth ride puts passengers to sleep before arriving at destinationsl.

There is a lot of chatter about who makes the best van. In my opinion, buy what you like, not what some reviewer thinks is good, or even worse, your neighbor. No matter what is chosen, take out a warranty and keep up with fluid changes.

Strength:

Plenty of room for a family of 4 plus Cargo. It has held up well, paint and interior. Tip slide drivers seat is a must with children. No rattles or interior noise on highway.

Weakness:

At 35K miles: Major engine work done, Under Warranty. No out of pocket for me. The cassette/ stereo sound system was weak so we upgraded with aftermarket.

1997 Windstar GL: It has been a great minivan! It has 58K miles now, and have had NO Electrical or Mechanical problems.

well tranny, it got fixed like i shared earlier. $1300.00. well now the pump to the anti lock brakes is going that's why we have no power when the anti lock brake system's clip is plugge din. weel hold on to your seat's if you own a 1995 windstar. $1500.00 to fix the pump. so as long as your vechile run's good without the clip in the heck with fixing it till you really need too.really ask your mechanic first. our's told us leave it out you got brakes and your van run's, you only need anti lock brakes in slid.and we have turned the company wher ewe bought the van to our state attorney general.his office informed us we have a lemon law case. we will keep you all updated as thing's progress. good luck to you all.

never ever again in my lifetime will i ever own a ford again. except my older one's. and i wrote to ford asking why the pump going out of the anti lock brake system would affect our motor ,well they never wrote back and they e mailed me saying i would have an answer in three day's yea well don't hold your breath if you write to them.

Strength:

For the past 5 years this has been a maintenance free vehicle. Safety, handeling, confort and durability are excellent.

Weakness:

Electronic sensors keep getting fried whenever I go on trips of 500 miles or more. These sensors are for emissions and Ford has assured me that doesn't affect the vehicle performance in any matter.

Lately, I had a peculiar situation. The left tie rod broke (snap) while parking the vehicle and I lost steering. Fortunately it was in front of my residence and there was no accident. I had the car towed to the dealer to have it fixed, which still under warranty. One week when by and the dealer service rep. Advices me that the warranty will not cover the tie rod because it was bend/damaged prior to braking. The funny thing is that I just came back from an overseas military deployment and the car been parked for over 4 month. I have not been in an accident nor I have hit an object on the road. Further, I did some investigating and found that DOT NHSTB has several reports about the tie rod braking. However, Ford states that they have no knowledge of this ever happen. In addition, 3 weeks ago I took the vehicle for 60K service and one section they check is the front end. There were no reports or it was mentioned by the dealer that there was a problem. Since I am in a interesting situation I have asked the dealer to provide me with detailed statements stating how they arrived to this conclusion and to identify every part they replaced and why. I have contacted a law firm that handles this type of cases and they will take my case to court. I wish Ford would have helped me but I guess they don’t care any more.

Strength:

The Ford Windstar is roomy, good family vehicle for carting kids to sporting events

Weakness:

Head gasket went at 93,000. First engine light went on. Took the van to Ford dealer where they cleared out the dashboard light by clearing the code on there computer. Said no other fault could be determined since it was intermittent. The 2 days later van became cold and within minutes the engine over heated. I immediately took it to a service station within a couple 100 yards of the overheating. The mechanic told me after his dianosis the head gasket was at fault and advised to take it to the FORD dealership. Upon contacting a different FORD dealer in the area, they noted the van was under warranty for this problem and all work would be covered. The next day I was told by FORD they found a timing cover gasket blown that was not covered. I then contacted the mechanic that orginally diagnosed the problem and questioned him about the timing gasket, he advised me he had it under pressure for 45 minutes and did not find such a problem. I questioned FORD about this but they started fumbling about and saying well sometimes these things are not easy to locate by mechanics nt factory trained by FORD. Good comeback!! Anyways they want $1100 for the timing cover gasket. I am attempting to contact the FORD Oakville, Ontario Canada plant where this vehicle is made to speak with there warranty department. Looking at all the other complaints, how can there not be a recall for the timing cover gasket. What else is FORD hiding? Don't buy a FORD Windstar van. Issues like this should not occur in this day when competition is so tight in the auto industry. Buy a GM, Chrysler or Toyota van.

Once the head gasket goes what's next? Door light also stays on when all doors are closed. Poor overall quality on brakes, the wear premature, even the dealer admits to this.

The color... the style....really...thats about it!

Weakness:

Bad engine...head gasket went out @ 70k....transmission out at about the same time....Ford put a huge bandage over the engine and did nothing about the tranny....now its worse....wont shift into second.defrost does not defrost....it creates more! Radio cuts out, brakes are squishey and poor poor gas milage.that thing drinks the gas like I drink water!

DO NOT buy a Ford!
Unless you have money to burn.
Geeze youd think that the company would learn!
You cant compromise quality and dependability to build more cost effective cars...you need both!
Ford needs to realize that they are no longer the only car company out there....they have compitition now and theyre giving their comp a leading edge because they are selling more quality and dependant cars than they are!
I want my Plymouth back!!!!!
waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Strength:

All strengths have been cancelled out by poor construction and service.

Weakness:

If you read through other reviews you'll see we bought "The Lemon". Of course you don't know that at the time. A family saves and plans for the big car purchase and looks forward to years of driving comfort and reliability. We've had ALL of the usual problems with this POS. The head gasket at 73K, the transmission at 92K and now today the head gasket again at 101K. Not to mention the long list of what seems to be the common problems of check engine light, rear hatch light, indoor light staying on, windows fogging up when using the defroster during rainy weather. This totally cancels out visibility until the driver and passenger roll the windows down and freeze or get wet for 2 minutes. But I guess that's better than having a wreck. If you're asking yourself why we've kept a car that had these problems realise that some people can't turn around and rebuy another new car and take on a $500 a month car payment. And besides what would we buy?

As I sit here without the use of the "good" family car and I'm looking at another $1,000 - $1,500 car repair bill I don't know what we'll do. But I can say without any hesitation we will NEVER buy another Ford. We've had two Ford's with the same head gasket problems and that's two to many. We've been treated with rudeness and incompetence. If the public is aware of the problems why would Ford say they've never heard of such problems and then can't fix them? They only paid some of the first gasket repairs because of a class action suit. Not out of honor or a sense of keeping good customers. Obviously some accountant has hacked the numbers and decided it's cheaper to deal with one customer at a time instead of fixing the problem at the factory. The biggest joke is we keep getting discount and rebate offers to buy another Windstar. That's adding insult to injury. This rating system needs a less than zero rating.

Unfortunately for us we thought this was a one time mistake on Ford's part not their standard business phylosphy and practice.

too many to list.

Nothing but problems from day one. Head gaskets leaked, transmission not smooth, all sensors replaced, fuel tank cracked, windows not operating on driver or passenger side. Ford is unresponsive to most complaints although they did replace the head gasket under warranty. The Windstar has damaged Ford's reputation and I will never step into another Ford dealer.
