Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

DESCRIPTION

The Honda Odyssey minivan lives up to Honda's reputation for refinement, convenient features and great fit and finish.

The Odyssey is available in four trims: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. All trims use a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The EX-L and Touring trims carry the most recent version of Honda's variable cylinder management system (VCM), which allows the V6 engine to switch among three, four, and six cylinders to increase fuel efficiency. The interior features a third-row Magic Seat that folds into the floor. Maximum seating capacity for the Odyssey is eight passengers. Safety features such as side-impact and curtain airbags, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are standard on all models. Luxury features such as leather trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, navigation and entertainment systems are available.

The Odyssey carries-on for 2010 with minimal changes

Strength:

Smooth ride. Magic seat. DVD and Navi options available. Powerful engine, reliable Honda quality. Number 1 rated minivan in the market today.

Weakness:

High dealer markup! Not enough to go around, so expect to pay a premium. Can''t have both factory DVD and Navi in the same van.

The only complaint I have on our 2002 Odyssey EX-L is that we purchased it at a little above MSRP. Honda needs to produce more of these babies to meet demand.

Strength:

Smooth ride and good power from engine/transmission/gearing combination. Climate control system is good.

Weakness:

Arm rests are too short and too low, the switches for the windows, locks, cruise control etc. are not lit when the headlights are on, the stereo is really bad, the window privacy tinting is too light, the vehicle has squeaks and rattles and the ergonomics for a 6''1" person is not really that great.

Why all the hype??? I purchased a Honda EXL Granite Green/Fern, sight unseen, undriven...you know they''re in high demand!! I purchased my Honda on the rebound from a bad experience with a 2000 Ford Windstar. The Windstar is being bought back by Ford through the Ford Settlement Dispute program. The Ford did not have a reliable engine/transmission configuration but beats the Honda hands down on interior amenities and exterior styling. I have owned the Honda for 1 week today and I am dropping it off at the dealership Monday for a sliding door that rattles, the two heated seats do not function and my center console door is stuck and won''t open. I simply cannot believe that I waited 35 days for this!! Also, upon purchase I took note of the pathetic stereo and the unlit switches for the windows, locks, cruise, etc.. I have to turn the courtesy lamps on to find my switches....so cheap!!! The vehicle does ride smoothly and has a good power to weight ratio and gets you out into traffic safely. The Windstar was built like a tank and had substantial steel in the doors the Honda is pretty "tin-cannish" and NEVER developed a rattle or squeak. All I can say; "Well, at least the Honda does have resale value." I''ll post later with a longer term review.

Strength:

Engine is powerful, but if not running with premium gas there is a very noticable change. Good handling, ABS braking is nice, plenty of room, "magic seat"

Weakness:

Not very reliable, A/C compressor broke at 20,000; wiper motors replaced at 22,000; transmission replaced at 24,500. Lots of little noices (squeaks, rattles) can be heard. Power doors just plain suck, no over-ride feature. Driver''s chair very uncomfortable. Stereo system is horrible, I would expect much better. Interior design and quality is sub-par. There aren''t very many little nice extras you like to find in a vehicle like extra lights, timers on lights and locks, ect.

Marginal quality van. I really dont see what all the hype is about. Everything seems to be average and even a little sub-par. With so much offered by other minivans, this one just doesnt seem that great. Plus, the styling is a MAJOR draw-back. Im just glad its my wife''s, and not mine.

Strength:

Reliability (thusfar, at 28K miles. "passenger friendly". Ample power. Very good fold-down design of rear bench seat.

Weakness:

Suspension roughness and noise. Wind noise.

Except for one major flaw, this 2000 Odyssey LX has been an excellent vehicle. Gas mileage on the highway is excellent, ranging from 23 to 27 mpg while driving at about 75 mph, the variance seeming to be a combination of road surface material and terrain. Very powerful, very smooth transmission. The major flaw is the suspension. It is TERRIBLE in this particular vehicle. Even small bumps in the road are felt sharply ... and loudly. I''ve read that this problem has been corrected, somewhat, in the last 2 years, and I hope that is true. On the other hand, on smooth asphalt roads the ride is very good.

Strength:

is there any?

Weakness:

Pretty much everything

This car is nothing but problems! I''ve had it fo 2 years now and have put only 30,000 miles on it. Can''t tell you how many times it has been in the shop. Every time I turn around there is another problem. Power sliding doors is one big NIGHTMARE. Also transmission had to be replaced with only 18 000 miles on my van.

Strength:

Powerful engine. Lots of room. My kids love the reclining captains chairs. Plenty of cup holders. Love the flip down hide-away 3rd seat that folds into the floor!

Weakness:

Speakers and stereo suck. Replaced both a month after purchase with more powerful units. Glad I did.

Bought van in Sept.01, new. So far, no major problems. Slight creaking noises coming from back of vehicle, but not that bothersome. Must be a body design issue. I opted for the base model with no electronic seats or doors. Glad I did. Hope it lives up to its Honda name.

Strength:

Cargo room, versatile seating configurations, magic third row seating, cruising comfort, value, aesthetics

Weakness:

Slow automatic doors, quirky auto locks (all doors have to be closed in order to lock the doors with the key fob), expensive maintenance (~$400 for $30k service), powered driver''s seat changes position everytime I get out of the van because my thigh hits the controls, have had minor issues with the powered doors (fixed first time)

I can''t say that this van hasn''t been trouble free, but it''s been the most reliable vehicle that I''ve ever owned. I routinely recommend this van to friends and family. I would buy another no question.
