Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

DESCRIPTION

The Honda Odyssey minivan lives up to Honda's reputation for refinement, convenient features and great fit and finish.

The Odyssey is available in four trims: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. All trims use a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The EX-L and Touring trims carry the most recent version of Honda's variable cylinder management system (VCM), which allows the V6 engine to switch among three, four, and six cylinders to increase fuel efficiency. The interior features a third-row Magic Seat that folds into the floor. Maximum seating capacity for the Odyssey is eight passengers. Safety features such as side-impact and curtain airbags, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are standard on all models. Luxury features such as leather trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, navigation and entertainment systems are available.

The Odyssey carries-on for 2010 with minimal changes

Strength:

Honda quality, everwhere, bar one.

Weakness:

Hard to diagnose, rattles. Fix two, find one.

The 2002 Odyssey EX, w/leather is great, the ride is smooth, but firm. The in-dash DVD player, with ceiling mount screen is great for the kids, and nice for the parents on trips. The interior is not as "trendy" as other comparable vans, but I knew that prior to purchase. Waiting 3 1/2 months for a van I paid full price for, was a little tough to swallow, but it''s the van that my wife wanted :-)

Strength:

good handling, nice turn radius, plenty of storage, and disappearing seat.

Weakness:

Drivers Seat comfort is bad, feels like sitting on bailing wire; Drivers side Arm rests too low and no padding(major oversight); No Glove Box Light; No Backlighting on Garage Door Control Sw and bad response; Marginal Stereo System Quality(on an EX it shoould be better); Squeaking and creaking of interior already becoming noticeable; Interior lights should all be on a timer when door locks are activated, too easy for kids to leave reading lights on; No winter floor matts available from Honda

We were thrilled to finally find an Odyssey at a dealer here in Wisconsin. None had been available for viewing for the past year that we had been looking. There was a line of people waitng to test drive the vehicle when we found it on the dealer lot. We had our quick test drive and felt fortunate that none of the other couples wanted to take that particular color. We bought it, cash on the spot. That initial thrill quickly faded as we drove the vehicle for the first months and discovered all sorts of engineering and quality shortcomings. I have responded to Hondas surveys and tongue lashed them for these issues, and obviously they are not interested in my opinion, for I haven''t heard a word back from them.

The car is comfortable and quiet, but has a lot of diseases and it''s unreliable

Weakness:

!!!!!!!!! Unreliable !!!!!!!!!!

Transmission had to be replaced after 25k. The A/C Compressor was replaced twice in less than a year . The wipper motor went wrong after 30k. Windows slip down allowing wind noise to enter the cabin. Right now I suspect a front strut will die on me. The steering became hard (might be a joint). Dealer claimed that I just got a "bad unit" and the Odyssey is normally very reliable. And forget about Honda help for a "bad unit". My first and LAST Honda product !

Very unreliable. DEALER SERVICE.

Began using oil at 14,000 miles. It has worsened now, with 29,500 miles. At first, the oil consumption was a pint each 750 miles or so. The dealer says "oil use is normal" after they began tracking the oil use. I gave up after the dealer said even a new engine uses oil. . I have no confidence in the engine (headgasket issues, oil usage) or the transmission. I will try to get this oil usage fixed and then sell the vehicle so I can buy something else! Oh, did I forget to tell you about the brake failure due to dealer negligence, and the fact that they charged me to replace brakes that didn''t need replacement; the underlying brake problem was a leaking brake line that they had replaced approximately four months previously. So, talk about leaving me and the other drivers on the road in an unsafe condition. In 2 years, my vehicle was in the shop on 16 different occasions.

Brakes, door and who knows what else

Barely after a year of use, I noticed one of the doors opening while driving when the doors were set in manual mode. Had a problem with the power doors not completely closing. Had a problem with the remote as well, where it doesn''t lock the vehicle. Front end has given problems since day 1. Steering wheel has a terrible vibration in it. Dealer says it''s the brakes and that the brake rotors are warped. When I asked what caused that, I was told that on a hot day driving in a rain storm could warp the rotors. I suppose I''ll just have to pick the right days to drive this car. I have had the brakes lined once and the rotors turned twice now. Brakes have been problem since day 1, always making a grinding noise. At 30,000 miles I am so disgusted with this van, and to think that I have to keep it for a long time just sickens me, because I never know what is going to go wrong next. I sometimes feel very afraid to drive this car with my grandchildren in it because I don''t feel safe with the front end and the brakes doing the things they do.

This van has been trouble free since the day we bought it. We have put 30,000 miles on in a year and a half and are looking forward to buying another Odyssey when the time comes. Read the manual on how to utilize your new van and its functions... sliding doors, key fobs, defrost/heat/A/C. This will alleviate a lot of assumed "problems" that do not really exist.

First to my Odyssey. Only problem, automatic sliding doors. Having that problem since I bought it New. Every once a while it opens on its own. Now to that report. I have seen it. "2002 edition of The Ultimate Car Book report" rates vehicles in eight categories, including safety features and crash tests. Results: MINIVANS- 1.Mercury Villager and it''s twin Nissan Quest 2.Chrysler Town and Country 3.Pontiac Montana FAMILY SIZED CARS: 1.Saturn L 2.Honda Accord 3.Ford Taurus The other top-rated cars included VW Passat, Dodge Intrepid and Stratus and Volvo S80 The top-rated large sport utility vehicles were the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition. "These are the cars that do the best in the criteria we think are important, which is heavily weighted toward safety," said the book''s author, Jack Gillis, director of public affairs for the Consumer Federation of America, an advocacy group. "Crash tests and safety features are prominent." The book also lists the vehicles based on the number of consumer complaints filed with the federal government and the number of vehicles sold. The vehicles with the fewest complaints per models sold were the Ford F-Series pickup truck, BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series. The vehicles with the most complaints were the Mazda MPV minivan, Kia Sportage SUV and Ford Excursion SUV.

Regarding that "2002 edition of The Ultimate Car Book" report. No it wasnt only for American vehicles only. Honda Accord placed second after The Saturn L among family sized cars. You can find copy of that report on the internet. Plus worst buy in the minivan category was Mazda MPV, hardly American vehicle.

My test minivan had high wind noise

I am in the market for a new Minivan. I testdrove every model available and cut my choices down to Honda Odyssey or Chrysler Town&Country. But today was released "The ratings from the 2002 edition of The Ultimate Car Book, published in cooperation with the Center for Auto Safety" The book rated cars, small trucks, minivans and SUVs by crash tests, safety features, repair and maintenance costs, fuel economy, complaints, warranties and insurance costs. ---------Cut and Paste from report-------Top-rated minivans are: Mercury Villager, Chrysler Town & Country and Pontiac Montana. The Saturn L scores best among family sized cars . --------------------------------------- I dont see Odyssey there so I''ll go with Chrysler Town & Country.
