brakes, salesmen, price, rented one to drive awhile, too much, and too much pressure, as well as arrogance of the dealers. i was going to buy one, but the problems with brakes, doors, gave me pause, moving to another very popular van instead. have driven vans for years Similar Products Used: ford, chrysler, gmc |

Strength:
Outstanding grocery and shopping vehicle. Them car salesman are great.
Weakness:
Needs more power. Power doors. Over price. Good vehicle but not as good as some car magazine wrote it to be. Sufficient power but develops slowly. If you commute two or more hours a day, this vehicle will torture you to death. Buy the mazda and supercharge/turbo it. You''ll feel much better with extra cash to pay speeding tickets. The power, the looks and sound system.

Service dept, Brakes needed repair awful early. Sliding door problems. Problems with the transmission. This van is terrible! I had an oil leak at about 2000miles. 12000miles front brakes and rotors replaced. 16000miles my transission went. Few weeks back Automatic sliding door opens by itself while the car was in motion on the highway with my two kids in the back. Scary experience. Honda service dept. is another sad story. Even my old Aerostar was better quality than this. I am trading inthis piece of junk for another minivan, and you can be sure it will not be Honda. Similar Products Used: Aerostar. |

Honda Odyssey LX
Strength:
Powerfull engine, large room and cargo space, great performance.
Weakness:
Brake problems, recurrent problems with "check engine" light, warranty period short if compared to other less expensive minivans. I''ve been an Honda owner for more than 15 years from Civic, to Accord, to Odyssey and ever though that there is no better vehicle than an Honda. However, with the Odyssey I have been very dissapointed. It has a very powerfull engine, but the brakes are awfull and do not last more than 12,000 miles (there have been 3 brake replacements with original parts in 3 years and the fourth one is behind the corner). It seems like programmed to start problems after expiration of the warranty period. Shortly thereafter, the three engine supports broke and the "check engine" light goes on every month, each time for different reasons. Also, it consumes gasoline like a mad V-8 engine. The service at the Honda dealer is good but it is awful to lose time every month taking the van to service. Actually I am looking for other alternatives. Odyssey LX
Strength:
1. Engine very strong and smooth and the transmission is well mated to it. 2. The van has a very solid feel to it, slam a door and you know its a Honda. 3. Resale value, 5 years from now this van will still be worth something, can''t say that about a van from the big 3. 4. Bang for the Buck: Considering all the standard equipment in the base LX trim, the van is a very good value even at MSRP. If you factor in it''s excellent resale, its a bargain.
Weakness:
1. Road noise is a little high, no rattles though. 2. Front seats could use a little more support. 3. The rear suspension is too soft, especially when towing, it needs air lifts. 4. No automatic shutdown of interior lights, if you leave a door open, you could come out to a dead battery... 95 Windstar had this feature. Have had the van now for about 6 months, and 9000 miles, no real complaints so far. Acceleration is good, plenty of power even when towing 2000# trailers. The engine is smooth, and has an almost turbine like feel. It revs very freely in every day driving, typically past 3000 rpm. The 4 speed automatic is well mated to the vehicle, although the grade logic feature takes some getting used to. It downshifts when going downhill at times that you don''t expect it to. The ride is almost car like and road handling is good for a minivan. The van is very softly sprung, a little too soft in the rear for my likes. Road noise while not objectionable is a little higher than one would expect for a large heavy vehicle. Fit and finish is very good, body seams are narrow and even, and the paint was flawless (Mesa Beige). Interior materials are of good quality, they don''t have the cheap feel typical of GM vehicles. Utility was the obvious goal of the designers of this van. The third row magic seat is a wonderful thing, the deep well it recesses into adds a lot of usefull cargo space. I like the layout of the controls with a few exceptions. The shift lever hides the radio controls, and the 12v power receptical is useless for a cell phone at it''s location a few inches above the floor. HONDA

Yea right! THE BEST minivan ever. I can honestly say that this mini-van is anything but MINI! I don''t know how or why the people on this sight have complaints about the sales people. ITS A HONDA. Your resale alone is the main saling point. Turn around a year after owning a piece of crap American product and sell it for a 1000 dollars less than what you paid. Won''t happen! Please a CARAVAN! Whatever! I priced a lot of cars. I found the EX to be the best DEAL around. I guess if cheap plastic and "cozy" interior for 25,000 is what you want, buy AMERICAN. If a sound product with good resale and consumer reports BEST rating is what you want. BUY HONDA. I appoligize for my one sided opinion but I have been left out in the cold by the BIG Three on many occasions with a transmission theme with all of them but my hondas have been great! Drives smoothly. Lots of kick. Lots of room for kids and stuff. Hope that Honda reliability is still great. Seems so. Looks great. Safety features. Nice folks at the dealer for sales and service. I would recommend this dealership. Others wanted to charge me much more and had an attitude as well. Norm Reves, thanks.
Weakness:
My wife and I both have had difficulty parking it first time straight. We allways have to pull back out and realign. This is our first van. We don''t have troubble parking our Camry Wagon (Same length). Guess what, one of my electric doors just went out. I knew this could happen when I bought the van so I made sure that I would be able to work the door manually. It is a lot harder to open and close manually. I would argue that you would not want to do it manually. My wife says that she can hear the gas sloshing but I can''t unless I really listen. I would only consider it an issue for very quiet people. You definitely could never hear it if you had the radio on, ever. The folks in the back seat have a hard time hearing the front seat folks. I mean more than my kids don''t listen to me. I have learned to speak up for them. I did see a guy with 18,000 miles having to change his brakes and windshield wipers. It does not rain much where we live. I figure that the weight of the car requires the traditionaly higher rate of brake change. The stopping performance is great, guess why. The wiper issue is a mystery. If it happens to me I''ll The van is fantastic. It drives like a car. Lots of rrrooooom inside. The gas mileage is as advertised. It is a beautiful car. Many folks in my area are now getting this van. I have used the fold down seat and extra power plug on trips (both nice). You cannot go wrong with this van. Pay attention to the negative comments on this web board. They appear to be mostly correct. This is a great van. I would buy it again today. The turn radius is fantastic! Interior layout and room
Weakness:
The dealership service department has tried at least five times to correct the problem with the power door. It works for a few months and then fails again. Honda Corporate so far unwilling to help in any meaningful way. In addition, the automatic transmission behaves erratically. There are weird jerky shifts that the dealer has said are "normal" for this model. I would not buy this car again! This minivan has some strengths but our particular car has had a serious unresolved problem with the power sliding doors. Both sliding doors (but especially the passenger side) have malfunctioned on numerous occasions. They have jammed in both the opened and closed positions, failing to respond to the handle pulls or the control switches on the dashboard.
