Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

DESCRIPTION

The Honda Odyssey minivan lives up to Honda's reputation for refinement, convenient features and great fit and finish.

The Odyssey is available in four trims: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. All trims use a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The EX-L and Touring trims carry the most recent version of Honda's variable cylinder management system (VCM), which allows the V6 engine to switch among three, four, and six cylinders to increase fuel efficiency. The interior features a third-row Magic Seat that folds into the floor. Maximum seating capacity for the Odyssey is eight passengers. Safety features such as side-impact and curtain airbags, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are standard on all models. Luxury features such as leather trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, navigation and entertainment systems are available.

The Odyssey carries-on for 2010 with minimal changes

Strength:

240 horsepower 3.5L V6 engine Car-like feel when driving Spacious interior

Weakness:

Price, paid full MSRP + tax and license! Sorry to report that there is still gas sloshing noises with the 2002.

First vehicle I ever purchased brand-new and had to pay full MSRP plus tax and license. Otherwise it''s a sensational product. The new 240 horsepower 3.5L V6 no longer requires premium-unleaded fuel and the column-shifter no longer obstructs the radio control knob. I''ve owned my Odyssey for only 2 weeks, but so far, I am happy to report that it has lived up to my expectations.

Strength:

Most options (except stereo cassette) are standard. 3.5 L - 240 HP engine (Humms at 75 mph @ 2,000 rpm), 7500 mile oil change interval, 105K mile tune-up interval, 6 yr/100K refundable extended warranty (for $825 regularly $1300), 1-magic seat, 2 climate controls, 4 WD disc brakes, and roof rack w/o optional cross bar (noise reduction) are a few pluses.0

Weakness:

3 yr/36K mile warranty is limited, $1-6K over MSRP, 2 middle window don''t lower, lack automatic door locks, after leather seats doesn''t include heated seat, tether anchor is only on the passenger side not driver side of middle seats, lack compass/ temp gauge option, stereo cassette is not standard equipment but optional. Obnoxious Sale people is a problem. It''s best to rely on referrals to friendly salepeople. If they are any good, they will try an make the deal by giving you he best service w/o hassling you. Besides you can capitalize on their ego.

This year''s model has a lot of bells and whistles. It''s souped up with a quiet V6 3.5L engine at 240 HP that has plenty of power. It humms at 75 mph at 2,000 rpms. It''s 3 inch wider than last years model, with 4WD disc brakes, and has about 30 more hp. Considering its weight, its gas mileage is not bad at 20+ mpg for a combination highway and city driving. Purchasing the van was an excercise. It''s a numbers game. To clinch a deal, factors include lowest markup (purchasing a used car is the best if you can find one), highest Trade-In Value, end of month purchase (after all sales quotas have been met), and sales referrals (to avoid obnoxious salepeople, they will work harder to maintain their reputation/ egos). The car cost $25K + tax & license (MSRP@ $29K plus $1K Mark-up less $5K Trade on a 96 Chrysler T&C with 91K miles and leaking transmission). In all, not a bad deal considering I would have had to pay $3300 more at another Honda Dealer for the same car. It pays to shop around. Costco gives you a great deal at $500 above invoice if your local dealerships participate in the Costco Program. Unfortunately, the high demands knocks both the Odyssey & MDX out and you may get a only a $500 discount off MSRP/ MarkUp..

Strength:

Fold down seat. Intirior and exterior finish. Ride, handeling, Honda reputation, dealer compitence, engine power, rear climate control.

Weakness:

Warranty, why does our $9,000 Hyundai have a better Warranty than this Honda? The sound system is poor, The rear hatch does not lift high enough, I am 6'' tall and am always hitting my head. The engine looks like a cafeteria tray, Thats not really a weakness, I just can''t tell what anything is. Parts are expensive, I cracked a tail light and I think it was a million dollars to replace.

I have had two Crysler mini vans and they were ok but I was endlessly removing or istalling seats to fit the cargo needs of that moment. I looked at the Honda at first beacause of the fold down seat but was sort of blown away by the price. I asked around to get input from other honda owners and they all raved about thier cars. I told the dealer that if I was going to pay that price I wanted to get 500k miles. He asured me that that was not unheard of so I let my 8 year old pick the color because I told her it was going to be the car she learned to drive. The first dealer I went to in Thopsham Maine put the presure on and followed up for days afterword with phone calls. I don''t like that so I went to an Augusta Maine dealer and they were very nice and easy going so I bought the van there. So far so good. I am happy with the van and would recomend it to others.......dispite the price. Last comment is that it did take 5 months for delivery but Honda gave me a loaner at no charge which I thought was a good deal and some savy marketing because they gave me a chevy which convinces me to never buy anything from GM.

Strength:

Lots of options, Honda reliability? Fold away rear seat.

Weakness:

esthetically weak dash and interior Hard seats, high interest rates from dealer arroganct dealers slam competition, sorry Honda but your dealers were the only ones to do so and I just won''t stand for that type of sales tactics, being in sales I find that type of selling demeaning to the customer. Given the right information the intellegent customer will figure out which product is best.

I test drove the Honda a couple of weeks back and for the most part liked the vehicle. However the total aroggance of the sales people STOPPED me from purchasing this van. They claim that they can not keep up with demand, this is true, but is not an indication of the greatness of the vehicle but a lack of production volume. The sales person continualy slamed his competition, namely Dodge. Did this guy forget that I drove onto the lot with a Caravan??? How could I have been so stupid and puchase a Caravan. Now let me think,, O ya it only the best selling mini van in the world. While test driving the van the sales person kept telling me that this van drove like a sports car and had the road feel and power of one??? It is obvious that he has never drivin a sports car. He accually told me to floor the accelerator?? What was the point of that, yes the odessey has good power but so do the Fords and Caravans, I don''t think the little extra power, which by the way is only available if you burn premium gas, of the odessey is going to make any difference to me unless I planed on racing it.

Good solid car. Things have gone wrong that I wouldn''t expect though. One major recall

Strength:

We''ve put 18000 miles on the minivan in just over one year. The andling feels like a large Accord, not a minivan. We''ve taken three very long trips in one year. Twice putting 1200 miles non stop, once putting 1000. The van handled the curves in Mt. Shasta with aplomb. And even at cruising speeds around 95 mph it got over 20 mph. In fact, that brings up a point, this minivan is geared to cruise at significantly higher speeds than the competition, and it has the suspension to securely handle the speeds. At 100 mph, on the open road, no one in the cabin feels rushed. The interior is huge and versatile. The third seat is a touch of genius. The HVAC works very well in both winter and summer. The dealer do try to gouge, but the package offered by this minivan is unique. The competition is doing with trailing beam rear suspensions and ton of useless doo dahs at inflated prices. If you doubt this, just check out the resale value of Odysseys

Weakness:

The brakes are not as strong as I''d like. The power doors are a bit slow. It needs more power -hey check out my daily cars. In fact, the 2002 Odyssey so fulfills my wishes so well that I will trade my 2000 before Christmas.

We resisted buying a minivan because we want good handling cars. Instead we''d rent minivans as the need arose. We even rented the first generation Odyssey which I felt had sufficient power if driven in Honda style -to the redline. The current Odyssey is a driver''s minivan. It''s omissions are few. It''s vehicle dynamics are non pareil. We have a 2000 EX.

240 hp engine, 5 speed auto, 4 wheel disc anti lock, size, crash test, saftey features, size, smart engineering, overall attention to detail.

Weakness:

price, money hungry sales people, strange plastic cover over the engine that must be removed to do any work.

This is my 3rd honda, I had a 1991 and a 1992 civic dx. After buying those two vehices I swore I would never buy from a honda dealer again, this experience confirmed that. After getting prices of two and three thousand over sticker from fleet managers, I found a broker to sell me the car "used" with 40 miles on it. Avoiding the honda dealer is the only reasonable way to get a honda.

Worst vehicle ever to grace my garage. I can''t begin to tell you the horror story. It has been back to the dealer for rotors(twice), stalling, door will not close completly, wind noise, lights flickering in dash, gasoline leak. I will never buy another from this company. My girlfriend has a Crv with just as many problems. Mine only has 17,000 miles. WHAT A PILE OF JUNK!

Strength:

Van has good rating with powerful motor and "hopefully" a trouble free 5 speed auto tranny. magic seat is great.

Weakness:

Honda dealers arrogance and misleading delivery claims. Also, production facilities limit output and prices higher than neccessary.

From test drive and specs it should be a good van. However, it takes forever to get delivery.Arrogance of Honda salespeople shows up in their optimistic delivery promises, lack of communicating delayed dates and further delays at production site. All in all five weeks and counting. If I had a alternative I would have cancelled order. Suggest buyer get firm delivery date in writing.
