Strength:
Same as the rest
Weakness:
Our only grief is the gear shifter obstructing the volume control. The engineers must have fallen asleep on that one. That''s our only complaint. We''ve had the van about a month and have really enjoyed it. We bought the 2000 used for 20K. I think the myth over getting ahold of the Odyssey is overstated. We went to three dealers and all of them had ''01s on the lot waiting for a buyer. We opted for the used for the savings and low miles (15K). It is great overall and we are thouroghly satisfied. Those reviews that complain about every little thing (losing the gas cap?!) seem a little neurotic. It''s a car, it''s not a house. We are glad we went with this car over the competition, just for reliability, if nothing else. Similar Products Used: Chevy Astro, Dodge Grand Caravan, Ford Windstar |

Honda EX-L / Navi
Strength:
Great acceleration, great sticky brakes, ride is good and not too noisy. Navigation system is cool – should be for a $2,000 option! I really like the middle seats (adjust forward/backward) and sideways to form a bench. With 4 kids, the rear magic seat stays up all the time for us. The deep / large rear well where the magic seat folds into is great for extra storage, etc. Wife likes the new hooks in back to hold the plastic grocery bags (copied from Dodge). All four bucket seats have map pockets in the back – very useful for our kids things. While the AC has an automatic climate control (dial it in and leave it alone), I like the fact that the Navi screen works as a manual override for fan speed and air flow direction – you simply press the AC button on the right-side of the Navi screen. New built-in side cup holders (new on 2002?) on each middle seat. An automatic time-off feature (new for 2002?) automatically turns off your internal lights after 3 minutes of leaving doors open, older models didn’t have this and drained your battery. Headlights turn off after 30 seconds if you leave them on after taking out your keys.
Weakness:
Compared to our 1997 Dodge Caravan ES/AWD, this van is a tad narrower than the Dodge, especially in the back. Tailgate opens a little lower (height wise) compared to the Dodge too, but is actually easier to close than the Dodge. Front power supply for accessories is too low to be useful for my wife’s plug-in Navigator cell-phone charger/speakerphone. Cassette player is an option. Roof rack cross-bars should be standard (yeah I have many of the same complaints) I paid extra for them to hold my roof-mounted cargo box when we bring our family of 7 to the beach. I’m still trying to get in a comfy position in the driving seat (arm rests too low). Wish it had seat memory buttons. Based on earlier reviews I read on this site, the automatic doors work, radio seems OK, noise level while riding is OK, but then again I have 4 loud kids and a wife that likes to crank out music. Price paid included MSRP, freight and $699 dealer options. Waited 9 weeks for the 2002 EX-L/Navi after being put on 2 waiting lists at different dealerships. With just one week logged, we were glad we waited for the 2002 model. For about the same price I was willing to pay for after-market leather in a 2001 model (about $1400), we got side air-bags, 5 speed (vs 4 speed) transmission, +30 HP engine, 4-wheel disc brakes and leather. The dealer tacked on $699 worth of options (no choice) above the MSRP which included wheel locks, splash guards, cargo tray and roof rails If you are looking for options you can add later and do not want to pay the high mark-up (250% at my dealer), suggest looking at web-site "www.handa-accessories.com". This site lists only Honda-made accessories and provides installation instructions at about 1/3 the dealership cost. This van moves! With 240 HP, it equaled the HP in my old 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo (but is not quite the same). The radio is adequate (not bad, not great), the auto doors work great for my small kids. We miss the little whistles and bells from the old Dodge like the outside temperature gauge, chromatic auto-dim rear-view mirror, computer to show miles to empty - but is small in comparison to the other benefits mentioned above. The Homelink works with our Genie garage door opener with a long range, middle seats are easy to move in/out. Nice to see the radio controls on the steering wheel (ala Acura). Haven''t computed the mpg yet, but hope to get the DOT stated 18 mpg city. When refilling at the gas station, the filler door has a holder for the gas cap – I like this better than a tether which gets in my way. With only 38,000 miles, the transmission was going out, battery needed replacement for 2nd time, engine occasionally stalled which could n |

We liked the way the car handled, accelerated. The seating is comfortable. The 3rd bench that stows away works well and is very convenient. The car is roomy and has a smooth ride.

The car needs a new transmission at 28k miles and we are not alone, just look on the net. car needs a new transmission at 28k miles Similar Products Used: None |

good looks, powerful engine, reliable, third seat that hides.
Weakness:
My biggest concern is with the rear suspension that sags severely with minimal load especially when towing a tent trailer. Have towed same trailer with Chrysler van with no sagging. Dealership is not being helpful - just say that there is nothing wrong with the van - I just can''t drive out of my driveway without scraping. Currently looking into aftermarket air shocks - if anyone has any suggestions on how you solved similar problem I would really appreciate hearing from you. Other more trivial weaknesses: - driver seat not very comfortable - gas tank on empty too early - power doors on EX a bit fickle at times Overall a solid choice for a family van. Odyssey
Strength:
Great engine, lots of power. Good interior layout, gobs of room. Great climate control system.
Weakness:
Poor ergonomics, especially for the driver. For normal height drivers it is almost impossible to enter/exit vehicle without disturbing power seat controls, there should be a way to lock in settings. Poor maintainability. Rotten radio. Noisy interior. Handling characteristics require driver to pay more attention to corners & camber than the competition. Power door, latch, & transmission problems. The 2000 Odysseys have a number of problems. A. Poor ergonomics - the armrest position for the driver and front passenger is terrible about four inches too low; it is impossible to find a comfortable seating position with the power driver''s seat & the controls are very easy to hit when getting in or out of the seat; you can''t find a comfortable hand position on the steering wheel on long trips; poor positioning of the transmission shifter, unlike the competition the gas cap is not tethered so it can be lost. B. Poor handling - the Odyssey does not hold a line through a curve or handle as well as a Dodge Caravan; if the road is not perfectly level the Odyssey has a strong tendancy to drift to the low side resulting in the often heard complint that it pulls to one side, increasing toe-in can help prevent this. C. Not designed for maintenance - prepare to be surprised when changing the oil, from the factory the Honda comes with a non-standard size oil filter, you can''t use your small or large filter wrench on it, once you break the filter loose you can''t remove it without spilling oil all over the frame and splash shield; the oil drain plug uses a loose aluminum washer under it instead of a nylon washer that is attached to the plug like everyone else, a minor detail but after you fish a couple out of the oil drain pan you start to wonder, then when you go to put the oil back in and see that the filler location is tilted towards the radiator so much that you need a funnel to prevent another mess you wonder again. D. Lots of road noise from the storage well behind the rear seat. E. Factory radio is terrible. F. Electronic door, transmission, and keyfob problems. Similar Products Used: GM & Chrysler minivans. The Honda could be much improved by using the Chrysler''s handling & driver position and the GM''s stereo. |

None I don''t own a Odyssey, but I have been selling Hondas for 14 years. I have driven all kinds of vans for long trips and have had family members with Caravans. Now they have a Odyssey and they love it, with no problems, unlike the Dodge. I hope I don''t sound bias but, I''ve seen cars come and go but the Honda is here to stay. As far as the wait to buy one, sometimes you just have to look around and put deposits at a couple of dealers. p.s. make sure it''s refundable. We have people backing out of deposits all of the time, we end up having Odysseys siting on the lot waiting for someone to buy it. Similar Products Used: None |

Everything Would buy a honda Odyssee but dealers want from 1000 to 3000 dollars extra because car is in demand. The car value listing price is 26000 dollars + tax. That means value of is approx. $24000 with tax included. But the dealers want no haggling and only pay surcharge. A odyssee cost $30000 + tax. That is incredible because it is still a stupid honda. None This is a follow up of my previous review on Odyssey gas mileage. My 2001 EX now has over 4000 miles and had one oil change. Since the oil change the engine revs less for the same pick up and i think this has improved local mileage by 1 to 2 mpg. In extreme local driving I am getting about 14.5 mpg. Straight, non-stop hi-way driving gives 24.5 mpg. These are summer driving numbers with full load. Winter numbers will be a little less. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Good strong engine. 3rd seat operation. For its size it also handles pretty good.
Weakness:
Oh my Lord did we get a lemon or what? Brakes have nor been right from the start, dealer tells me they are fine. Had to to change an inner boot at 20000 miles, and now changing a busted outer boot at 51000 miles. I'll never get my behind in a honda again. The bland styling and the reliability issues have just convinced me that the third seat option should not have carried that much weight into the decision to buy. Nice looking minivan, but our buying decision was made upon inspection of the third seat. We have opened it and closed it hundreds of times. Just awesome functionality. Unfortunately the praises stop here. Similar Products Used: Dodge Caravan rode nice but I was afraid of reliability pbs. |

Handling, build quality, power, space, 3rd seat, hoped-for Honda reliability
Weakness:
Power doors slow and troublesome, too much road noise, small bits and pieces fall off, transmission holds 1st gear too long under light throttle, creak in passenger seat base, rear suspension not up to the task. Great vehicle, but more problems than expected on a Honda. Previous vans were '92 Grand Caravan LE and '96 Previa LE. The Honda is nearly as well-constructed and problem-free as the Previa, but with the room of the Caravan and better handling. The engine is powerful, and fairly economical on the highway. The van tows our 3000 lb boat trailer just fine, as long as there's nobody in the 3rd seat. However, numerous pieces have fallen off (door seals, seal behind rear spoiler, etc), the front passenger seat creaks and groans, and the power doors have given repeated problems. Also, the rear suspension is NOT up to dealing with 7 passengers, even when 3-4 are children. It bottoms frequently under such conditions, but there is no air spring option or the like. This is one area where the Chrysler vans have it all over the Honda -- the unloaded ride is at better (though the handling is less nimble), and their long-travel rear suspension almost never bottoms with any reasonable load.
