Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

DESCRIPTION

The Honda Odyssey minivan lives up to Honda's reputation for refinement, convenient features and great fit and finish.

The Odyssey is available in four trims: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. All trims use a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The EX-L and Touring trims carry the most recent version of Honda's variable cylinder management system (VCM), which allows the V6 engine to switch among three, four, and six cylinders to increase fuel efficiency. The interior features a third-row Magic Seat that folds into the floor. Maximum seating capacity for the Odyssey is eight passengers. Safety features such as side-impact and curtain airbags, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are standard on all models. Luxury features such as leather trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, navigation and entertainment systems are available.

The Odyssey carries-on for 2010 with minimal changes

Strength:

3rd row seat,power,re-sale

Weakness:

Power Doors,A/C stereo,quality,confort,key fob,and more...

OK so the only reason I bought it is because I thought Its a Honda no worry's but was I wrong, Sliding door is temperamental it ripped the sliding door track cover off, A/C hoses cracked, interiors panels will not stay on, stereo on the weak side key fob will work some times. I might have had a lemon but it might be Honda. I sold it after a year for almost what I paid for it, bought a Chrysler Town & Country and love it!

Strength:

1. Power side doors.
2. Fold away rear seat.
3. Fit & Finish.

Weakness:

Navigation System: Very dissatisfied with this $2,000.00 option. The coverage is very spotty. A $29.95 map program from Microsoft or Rand McNally gives specific addresses in rural areas. Honda system doesn't even cover some major cities. On page 70 of the Navigation System Manual, they even state "you may then have to ask directions to your final destination". I didn't spend the extra $2,000 to have to stop and ask for directions. Have written both Honda and Navigation Technologies but have, so far, received no reply. Called Alpine Electronics to see if other software would work - was told NO!
I would welcome comments from any others with similiar concerns about the inadequate map software. bmbernhard@juno.com
Another weakness is lack of DRL's. When ordering, I was told this was just absolutely not available. Now, a $10.95 kit from K-Mart has solved the absence of DRL's.
No automatic door locks.

7-26-01: I took delivery of the EX-NAVI on July 8, 2001. To date the vehicle has performed very well. My wife is primary driver. She thinks the "fit & finish" are much better that her Dodge Caravan that she gave up. It's still too soon for a detailed evaluation.
She complains of not being able to see ground in front of vehicle. Also has found the gas gauge problem with very early warning light.
I did order two dealer installed options - fog lights and crossbars for roof rack. (Now, what good are side rails without crossbars?)

I have had three Dodge Caravans. Bought this Odyssey because of ratings of new Caravans vs. Odyssey. Also, a new Caravan, with same features would be about $3,000 more. Have concern about future of Chrysler Corp.

Strength:

Ride, handling, power, Magic seat, conveniences.

Weakness:

Stereo. Location of the power outlet (at the bottom of the dash). Overall these are minor. Wish it had 4-wheel disc brakes like the 2002 model will have.

This is a follow-up to my previous review. Have owned the vehicle for 3 months and love it. Recently picked up two air conditioners and they easily fit in the back and all I had to do was fold down the Magic seat.
SPECIAL NOTE: I just read in the Boston Globe that the 2002 model (due in the fall) will have a more powerful engine (240hp), optional factory leather seats, and standard 4-wheel disc brakes along with side air curtains. Sounds like a good thing has been made better.
Honda Corp. is also planning to build another plant in the U.S. just to build more Odysseys in order to meet demand. They're talking about producing upwards of 200,000 of them per year. That ought to keep prices in check.

Lots of power. Only minivan I know of that will do 130 mph without modifications, although speed rated tires are definately recommended for those speeds. Definately recommend!

Strength:

Good acceleration! Good everythings!

Weakness:

Bumpe ride.

I just got this vehicle for less a month but I already thinking I will keep this minivan for the next ten years.

This car is very hot on the market right now there is not much bargains because Honda didn't make enough to sell it to all consumer. I have purchased this 2001 EX model at $29,000 plus NY tax is around $32000 include most options like mud guard, door guard, wheel trim protection, lock nut and honda mat. But when I sign off the finance part they want me to add the security stuffs and extended warranty. They never tell me how much it is on the security options until I sign off all the paper works and got my keys in my hands than I realize is cost around another $4000 to total that adds up to $36000 total for this mini-van I think I have paid over priced. Any way I have to move on with my new car and I like it.

I want hear your comments if you think you paid over priced too? Email me at alanchun@hotmail.com

Model Reviewed: EX without Navi

Strength:

Safety rating is the best all around, giving me peace of mind for my family’s safety. The size is a big strength...lots of room in all seats compared to other mini vans. The interior and exterior styling are excellent compared to other vans. Very comfortable, the ride is smooth but not mushy, engine is very quiet and smooth, power from both a stop and expressway passing is surprisingly good, shifts are crisp and smooth. The folding seat is fantastic and was a big selling point and power sliding doors are nice. The climate control is excellent with lots of airflow and a micron filter. Like the lights and vents over each seat in the rear. The highway gas mileage was better than EPA est., we got 26 mpg on a hilly 600 miles of highway driving w the a/c on traveling 65-70. Keyless entry remote is durable. I accidentally went swimming in the ocean with it in my pocket and was under salt water for about 30 minutes and water it remained watertight and it still works. Like the flip down tray between the two front seats.

Weakness:

While there are no blaring weaknesses, there is some room for improvement. We did not like the fact that factory leather seats are not available (we ended up installing after market heated leather seats for about $1900 and it looks, feels and smells fantastic! I wish it had side air bags. There is no light in glove box, although there is a light in the center storage area. The gearshift knob is a little too close to radio volume and balance/tone controls. It's not really a problem, but they could have shortened the shifter by ~1" and bent it toward the driver about an 1" and I think that no one would complain. While the highway mileage is fantastic all city driving has only been about 15 mpg...but what do you expect for something that's heavy and accelerates briskly? The 3yr/36k power train warranty unacceptably short so we bought Honda Care extension to 7yr/100k for about a grand (which is close to cost). The Low fuel indicator comes on with 6 gals remaining (always thought 3 gals was the norm). I would like to see automatic door locks. The missing crossbars on the roof rack seems pretty ridiculous, although I will probably only use the roof rack to tie the Christmas tree down so it will be fine for me without the cross bars. While I really like the power doors you must use caution. Sometime they don't reverse until they've generated considerable force when closing on something. It would not injure an adult, but it could injure a toddler. I talked to the dealer about this and he said it’s the way they are. What I don’t understand is why they sometime reverse with very little resistance and other times they require a lot of resistance.

All in all an excellent car. While we've only owned it for 5 weeks as of this writing, we've tallied up over 2k miles including a 1,000 mile, week long family vacation. It was very comfortable on the long trip and to my surprise got over 25 mpg. So far we have no squawks and time will tell if it has the reliability that I would expect from Honda. We have friends that have been driving their 2000 EX for well over a year and love it and have had no problems. The ride, comfort, power train, styling and fit and finish are first rate. An excellent value even at MSRP ($26840). While many dealers charge more than MSRP, ours didn't.

I don't see a problem with 6 speaker audio on EX...it has good fidelity and plenty of distortion free volume and pulls in distant stations very well. Not sure why some of the others have had complaints (maybe they are the 4 speaker systems in the LX)?

Would have considered the Navigation system, but I've seen it in operation in the Acura and sometimes it works excellent and can be very impressive and other times it leaves a lot to be desired. For example you may have excellent map detail in one county and almost no detail in an adjacent county. For $2,000 it better work perfectly all the time.

I've sold a couple Odysseys in the 5 weeks I've owned one...Honda you can send me my commission:)

Similar Products Used:

Compared with: Mazda MPV...nice but too small and it's not as quiet or smooth of a ride. Toyota XLE...great ride and quiet, too small and a little more pricey. The base power train warranty on the Toyota is considerably better than Honda's base.
