Strength:

The car has been reliable in everyday driving. Starts readily, runs, corners and brakes with a solid feeling. Air and road noise is at a comfortable level. Handles well at highway speeds and the front wheel drive has been flawless for control on rain soaked road. Peppy enough. Fuel economy has been 18-19 mpg since I bought it. Most of the driving we do is suburban not highway.

Weakness:

The exhuast manifold studs have failed. Right now we have three failed studs on the rear cylinder and one proximate to the forward cylinder. Our mechanic said that while this is a rare occurance in cars in general he has heard of similar Mercury products having it. While he didn't call it a defect, he said that it is a "weakness" of the engine and probably not engineered to endure the normal heat of the engine. Especially around the rear cylinder. My other complaints are relatively minor, in comparison. One was the steering wheel mounted radio control switches. They never worked very well and now they don't work at all. I've talked with another owner, same story. Also the tilt out window on the sliding glass door has a over center lock that will eventually fail and then rattle until replaced. My driver's side sun visor also broke due to the fact that lowering it was difficult and required more force then the visor could accept.

I have owned the car since November of 1996 and up until now, have been satisfied with its reliability and performance. I now have an exhaust manifold stud failure that I feel is unusual and a potential problem for other owners. There were several "trim" items that I feel could have been better engineered.

We had a 93 Camry Wagon prior to this that ran and handled well. My wife wanted a little more room and we sold it and bought the Villager. I always thought that the Camry was one of the best designed

Strength:

Driving and riding comfort. Fuel economy, and the way it handles. Everything fits. Visibility is great, too. You can not lock your keys in the car(if they're in the ignition).

Weakness:

That darn "check engine light"! Seat belts haven't properly retracted for awhile and the passenger door lock doesn't always work automatically anymore--not bad for something as used (and loved) as my villager.

I bought my Villager new, 23 miles on the odometer. I have zero complaints, except for an errant "check engine light" that the local dealer & independent shop tells me the transmission is ready to check out. 101,000+ miles. BUT it shifts and runs great!! Went shopping for a new vehicle. Nothing compares. I have always had fantastic fuel mileage 22-23 around town and 27 on the highway--WITH the a/c going. It's disappointing that it's no longer manufacturered. The Nissan Quest interior did not compare with the Mercury (why I bought the Mercury six years ago). The van's been maintained though, oil change every 3000 miles, rotate tires, charge A/C, etc. Still looks good, too. Inside and OUT

I had a Bronco (full size) back in the early 90's and other family members have tried the Chrysler vans with a bunch of nickle and dime troubles. The shop sees them more than they drive them. Two NEW

Strength:

-Handles great because of size -Very reliable engine (Nissan) -Highway riding is very smooth -starts no problem in very cold weather -very fuel efficient compared to other vans

Weakness:

-oxygen sensor makes check engine light come on (common problem on Villager's) -small cluster of six buttons on dash do not light up sometimes, or flash on for 5 minutes then turn off again. (Electrical) -Problems with A/C at the beginning of summer (Electrial again!) -Large people should avoid the second and third rows

I bought the Villager used and it has been the best van that I have owned. It is a GL model with dual A/C & heat, quad chairs, cruise, and power everything. It is now 5 years old, and has 139 000km (86875mi) on it and still runs like new. The van is small so it handles very well. When on the highway, it is smooth and very quiet, the engine is a little on the weak side, especially when the van is full, but it does the job.

Strength:

Quiet engine/transmision, quick steering/ braking. lots of luxury, well equiped.

Weakness:

Needs a little more power, causes transmission to seek settings more often, in hilly driving, wish i had the 170 hp model

Bought this LE van loaded with every option, leather, sun roof, dual power seats, digital dash, max stereo, and must say it runs like dream. Corners and handles like a mid-size car, averages 23 mpg, large tank goes 400 miles before a fill-up, and the seats are comfortable on long trips. No issues with anything, door locks work, just a nice piece of work.

Good ride, comfortable & attractive

Weakness:

LOUSY transmissions, hard to replace too apparently! High gas cost

This is the 2nd Ford vehicle we have purchased the 1st being an F150. Both needed a new transmission within the 1st 30,000 miles. Add that on top of the price of the vehicle and you have a very expensive car! I will NEVER buy another Ford product again. We also have had trouble with the Check Engine light. It came on numerous times and everyone thought it was something different. Yet, it would keep stalling out in traffic. So 300.00 later it''s fixed and I don''t recall what the actual problem was. With that said I do enjoy the car ( after all it''s cost us a fortune! ) It rides smooth, has tons of room and can hold plenty. It is luxurious for sure, and you feel very safe in it. However again, I still would never buy another Ford product. Their transmissions are notorious for being lemons. And that is a very expensive mistake to make!

Nothing really unless you compare it to the 1st time we bought a ford F150.

Strength:

quiet, handles great, reasonable gas mileage, large gas tank=400 miles+range, classic style for a MV.

Weakness:

sunroof cuts into headroom, a little more power please, and wish I had the second sliding door. auto climate control mode limited in choices of air distribution.

The used 96 caught my eye, with the green/gold paint, leather, digital dash, sunroof, dual power seats, bought it and have had no problems. Drives like car, mileage 18 city-24 highway seems very good for a van close to 4000 pounds. Reading other reviews, this van has no power lock issues, wiper issues, rear heating/cooling issues, alignment or anything else.
