Strength:

Styling, better looking than a Caravan Roomy interior. Third seat on wheels is convenient for creating seating space for 5 and increasing cargo space for hockey bags and golf clubs.

Weakness:

3.0 liter V6 engine needed more torque Middle bench seat is awkward to remove and install. Brakes wear prematurely. Cup holder between front seats is vulnerable to breakage.

Purchased van in 1996 with 34,000 km now has 260,000 km. Over the years lots of parts have been replaced, water pump, and heater fan (warranty). Sliding door has had lower and upper slide linkages replaced twice due to corrosion. Tires last between 50-60,000 km. Lower plastic engine cover shakes and rattles when travelling over 120 km/hr. Replaced front drive axels twice because the CVC boots had cracked and allowed road salt/sand to enter front CV joint. Had strong gas odour inside vehicle, 2 problems i)faulty filler pipe Ford replaced with recall, ii)gasline started leaking at entry point into engine compartment. Dealer replaced section of gasline. Vehicle is now starting to show signs of wear, lots of squeaks and rattles, middle passenger window shakes when travelling over rough roads. Power steering pump needs to be replaced,(leaks). Exhaust manifolds are leaking, suspect manifolds are warped and exhaust gasketing is no longer do its job. Both the dealership and OEM exhaust suppliers tell me this is common with the Villager/Quest models, major problem with repairing the manifolds is the exhaust studs have a history of snapping off in the heads. Quote to fix the manifolds was $2500+ Cdn. Rear passenger seat belt locked in the retracted position when the van was parked facing downhill. Lighting for heater controls is intermittant. Rear wiper arm fell off. Rear window electric defrost connectors get bent and eventually break off because the gas strut for the rear window hits them when clsong the rear window.

Strength:

Great looking Van will miss it probably go to the Honda when this one dies. Has been very relaibe.

Weakness:

1. Parts are very expensive 2. Check engine light goes on/off allot 3. Gas peddle wont go down sticks some times 4. Tires wear out fast and uneven

Overall pretty happy with Villager this is the 2nd one we have owned. I tottaled our first one in a roll over and was very pleased it held up well and protected me. The 99 is loaded with TV/VCR/DVD/CD I use it to haul kids back and forth for visiation 2 hour commute every weekend. I have 160,000 miles and nothing major. We had some shaking at 70 MPH dealr said tires had a bad belt but didn't warranty the at 17,000 miles. Replaced and stopped most of it. I have had to have the brakes fixed a couple of times. The rear seat belt coneector had to be replaced. The check Engine is always coming on they say iys a bad sensor $200.00 the parts are very expensive. The radio dash lights went out and you cant see what time it is or what station your on. The rear seal is leaking but they may have been caused by hitting a coyote. The van does seem to eat tires faster than normal and wear uneven. I do however get good HWY mileage always AVG 19. Cup holders are weak break very easy especially mid seat between seats. Throttle sticks some time not down but wont go down.

Strength:

Alot of torque, V6 powerfull engine, can seat 10 people at full capacity.

Weakness:

Dashboard lighting.

At first, the villager had a major oil leak, but after getting it fixed, it has seemed to of lasted 8 years counting 2002.The "check engine" light seems to turn off and on, but other than that, is a pretty godd vehicle. It drag raced pretty good in the early years, but now is used as a city/long travel vehicle. Overall, I rate it an 8 out of 10, 10 being the best. And the oil leak was factory, by the way.

Strength:

Enjoy the body style, Handles well on highway driving (Smooth).

Weakness:

Fuel Smell Very Strong on start up. Engine surging after warm-up.

Vehicle has performed well for us from day one. Average in handling and fuel economy. The vehicle does have some problems with strong fuel smell at start up. Also the engine surges at idle speeds (in park), after it has warmed up. Other minor gliches are the dash lighting. It has a mind of it's own. Sometimes they will come on and sometimes they will go off without any tinkering.

Strength:

V6 Nissan Engine is the only good thing.

Weakness:

Very bumpy and shaky ride. Hard on disk brake pads.

If I had it to do over again, I would not have bought this vehicle. Bought brand new October 2001. Vehicle shakes at 50-70 mph. Dealer says to "fix" it I need new tires at 17,000 miles. Put all new tires and alignment, but the van still shakes. Now the dealer says it is the "characteristic of the vehicle". No known fix. Ford service engineer says it is from the added driver side sliding door (2000-2002 models) that makes the vehicle shake. Brake pads have already been replaced at 22,000 and the panels inside the van are coming loose causing excessive inside popping and cracking noise when driving over bumps at slow speeds. Very dissatisfied with the vehicle in the shaking and performance. I am submitting a Ford Dispute Settlement if anyone would like to join me. Please reply if same problem exists for you.

Strength:

Smooth driving ok mpg. Good room

Weakness:

Could use some more horse power and gas smell in the morning while heating up

We bought the van with 51000 miles on it. Its been a good vehicle. It drives smooth and the gas milage is ok. We average 19mpg. We have had some problems that have come around 140,000 miles. The Drivers seat belt track broke. The Side door panel snaps broke and the a/c goes works off and on. The worst one is that we are now getting a gas smell in the morning from the heater. It goes away once the van heats up. Anyone else have this problem. Other than that the manifold bolts have held on strong so far.

FOR THOSE DARN LOCKS!!!!!...tHEY REALLY DID HAVE A MIND OF THEIR OWN.

I loveD this van....I bought this from a private original owner. eVERY BELL AND WHISTLE COMPLETELY loaded WITH LEATHER at about 100,000 MILES six years ago. I WAS approaching 187,000 miles and it rAn beautifully! Other than routine maintenence, I have replaced the a/c compressor and that's it.
