Strength:
Strong V6, great gas mileage, lots of features, tons of versatilaty.
Weakness:
Some interior parts are cheap. This van is great. Has lots of power, the V6 feels lively. It has good handling a smooth ride, and it looks great. Ours came with basically all the bells and whistles except for the driver sliding door, power heated seats, and leather. The stereo sounds really good too. Strength:
Looked really good and is very comfortable - I liked the versatility of the seats and have enjoyed bringing it to the mountain, beach and on long trips.
Weakness:
The electrical problems with the vehicle are very annoying - the lights over the dashboard have circuit problems and I cannot seem to get those fixed right. They go on and off when they want to. Now the transmission is seemingly having a problem. It is an automatic and slams into gear when accelerating - I have taken it in for diagnosis and they told us that they couldn't find anything wrong with the vehicle - it whines in gear and then thuds into gear - this problem is scary and since they have not been able to figure out what is wrong with it I checked out to see if anyone else was having a similar problem. I am the only driver of this vehicle and am not someone that abuses it. I drive pretty steady and even though I have high miles on the vehicle they are mostly highway as I am in a sales profession. One other problem is that on the drivers side the fabric on the seat has wore off after the 1st year and not even on the part that you sit on but sort of on the side in an odd place - I am really not rough and it seems strange that this would happen - Oh by the way just had the brakes done - they wore out rather quickly as well and they can only be purchased through Pontiac - they are double - yes thats right double what they are on any other Van! I was so mad - I think the brake job was 500$- the Van only had 48K miles on it when I had them done. I will not be buying one again unless there is a tremendous amount of revamping of the seemingly similar problems that the Montana has. I noticed that in many cased the ABS system has a problem and that there are little electrical glitches. I probably won't even buy an American car again - I had a Toyota and never ever even had 1 problem with it. I am definitely for buying from within the US as support for our country but I have to say that if we can't seem to make it as good as they can elsewhere I am not wasting my money again. I am very disapppointed!!!! Similar Products Used: I test drove several other vans and did not like the ride or look of them as much as the Montana |

Strength:
Great motor, more power than a minivan ought to have.Excellent in ohio winters, better than the four wheel drive Jimmy it replaced.Plenty of space for people and cargo, good gas mileage.
Weakness:
Heating and air conditioning not good enough, transmission self destructed after 11000 miles.seats too hard for long journeys, really should have a center console.Front brakes lasted 26000 miles but i shouldn,t complain the Jimmys only lasted 13000. Overall a very positive experience.Iwork for GM so i know that not all vehicles are perfect but this van could be if a little more attention to detail and design was taken. The performance is great feels like i am driving a sports car.Apart from the few things mentioned i would buy another in a moment. My biggest problem with GM is the cheap seats. How much more would it cost them to put a couple of inches of padding in the seats so you dont always feel like your sitting on the steel frame. * Loaded with tech features.
Weakness:
- plastic interior components seem cheap (time will tell) We bought new, and haven't thoroughly tested it all yet. reliability and durability to be determined. We were thinking about the Chrys T&C EX, Honda Odys EX also. Price and eight-passg seating were the primary motives for going to the Montana over the others. Safety has improved significantly for 2001 on the montana/venture. Similar Products Used: chevy astro |

Strength:
Very nice smooth driving. Good Gas mileage.
Weakness:
Dangerous Brakes. They will not stop correctly on wet pavement. My wife ran a stoplight and wrecked because of this. Back seat space is terrible on short version. Horn alarm keeps going off for no reason. Dealer cannot get it fixed. Terrible design between front seats. Seats too soft for long driving. Poor visibility of mirrors. This is a dangerous vehicle that I would not buy because of braking. If you want to get killed just buy one of these and stop quickly on wet pavement. GM did a very poor design on a number of aspects. Do they really listen to customers? Similar Products Used: Dodge Caravan, Pontiac Transport. I would never buy a Montana again and do not recommend it to anyone. My sister also has one and feels the same. |

Strength:
Excellent mini-van. Very versitile for my family and excellent gas milage. We drove to Florida and used less than 2 1/2 tanks of gas! Very smooth ride and comfortable for short or long trips. Great value for your money. Dollar for dollar this is no other mini-van that comes close to what this mini-van offers. We had this velicle for over a year and not one rattle or quaility problem.
Weakness:
The only weakness we could find is that it is a bit more narrowier than some other mini-van out there. We least a 1998 Ford Windstar for 2 years and it was a bit wider. The Windstar also had a bigger engine and was a pig on gas and quaility problems. That why we didn't buy it. The ride, quality and comfort on this velicle is outstanding. I'm so impressed with this mini-van that I talked 4 other friends into buying one and all of them are delighted. GM had developed the perfect mini-van with the Montana. Forget the rest, buy the best! I love having the room for 7 passengers. I love having dual sliding back doors. Front and Back heating and air is a plus also.
Weakness:
The fact that no one can seem to fix the alarm that beeps (the one that alerts you that the "power sliding door" on the passenger side is not closed properly. The manual states that you should not use the power option when parked on an incline. The "incline" that they are talking about should be removed. It doesn't matter if you are on even ground. The power sliding door needs to be worked on by GM. Of course it doesn't help that when I had the dealer who is closest to me try to fix it (Colonial Pontiac in Lawrenceville, GA, they were rude, unconcerned and useless, as the three all day stays my Montana made were uneventful as far as fixing the door) After taking the Montana to the dealer that I bought it from(Lou Sobh Pontiac in Duluth, GA) I was fortunately given some pity and provided with a brand new Pontiac Aztec (it's not as roomy as the Montana, but anything given to me that isn't a coffin on wheels for me to drive my children in is AWESOME). They kept the Montana for 1 week, replaced a part, realigned the door and guess what??? The alarm still beeps and the door does not close properly when using the power sliding door. I sure am glad that I am paying for a $30,000 van that GM builds not 30 minutes from here that no one seems to be able to fix. The calls I made to the GM Pontiac division were also useless as they were unwilling to to do anything other than call the dealer (which I did myself) and they offered me NOTHING other than to make me yet another appointment. I wonder if the GA Lemon Law sounds familiar to them. If you just have to buy GM,and you need a minivan, buy it without the power sliding door (the one reason I wanted the Montana in the first place)....you'll save $$ and a big headache. /Chevrolet Trans Sport
Strength:
Excellent acceleration, quiet and comfortable. Very good handling even on snow and ice (when ABS and TRS are working). Lot of space for passengers and luggage. Flexible seat system. Previous to the 2000 model we had the model 1996 (in Switzerland sold as Chevrolet Trans Sport)for more than 3 years and had no major problems.
Weakness:
Some problems with the elcectonic (malfunctioning of the ABS an TRS). Position and handling of the cruise control. No CD option in Switzerland and bad position of the back loudspeakers (luggage covers the speakers). In Switzerland you can't find a car with so much space for passengers and luggage and such a good performance for a simular price. We and our 4 children like this car very much especially when we travel to Spain (over 20h) because there is plenty space for all. You can't even hear the engine when you travel over 85mph and the gasoline usage on the higway is about 9 liter per 100 km. Similar Products Used: None |

Looks Good
Weakness:
Safety Hazard The first problem occured at 19,000 when the van just decided to stall while traveling 55 to 60 mph in heavy traffic. A spark plug was changed to correct this problem, the pistons were changed, the motor itself was changed and the transmission has been changed. After expiercing this stalling in traffice the 4th time I have not driven the van since March 1999 but am still making timely payments. I have had 7 rental cars (not van as I had purchased) and have had it verified that there is still a serious problem with the NEW transmission. R O Evans and General Motors's Representative, Yvette Guyton expects me to contine to put my life and my four childrens lives on the line until they can figure out what the proble is. I have asked for a repurchased but was refused with Yvette giving me a reason of " I don't want to lose you business " Being a single mother of four and very active children this has really put a damper on our lives as well as our finance. But do Steve Evans or General Motors care. I don't think so.I hope by posting this note that maybe some other lives won't have to be taken needlessly to get the attention of General Motor as in the case of Firestone.
