NO STRENGTHS OUT-WEIGH THE BAD!!!

Weakness:

WAy to many!!`

I wanted to update my file....... I did an arbitration hearing through the BBB and won..... but sounds better then it is. lost about 15000 of the value of my van!!! and I can''t afford to rebuy. So I put on hold my answer to the BBB on wether that was exseptable. Now my van has had a rebuilt engine and the transmition was rebuilt 2 times and that is just the begining...... it has been in shop more then 65+ days and now I had it stall on me and not start up...... it is now in the shop.... had to be towed and well I wouldn''t trust it anymore, debating what I should do. I have no clue!! I feel helpless in this situtaion and well the company holds all the cards. I am calling on monday to talk and let then know that I am going to file a major lawsuit on them if the don''t give me all my money back for the van..... that it is there chose.... to eather pay more later or give me and my family what I know is rightfully ours.... they would be getting away with it if they take my offer...... but I know without a dout.. that they will kill someone in this van..... but it will not be me or my family... I hope they relise what they have made and fix their problems

Strength:

Great ride and lots of space

Weakness:

Cheapo tires had to be replaced after 24,000 miles.

What a MAJOR improvement over the 1999 Montana. Have driven in the recent Honda and Caravan models and the Montana matches closely and came it at a better price. Currently at 25,000 miles and have had no problems yet.

Strength:

looks good radio contols nice to have on steering

Weakness:

unsafe... stalls while traveling

Wanted to update my posting. Purchased New April 1999. October 1999 with 19,000 miles pistons were changed, sparkplug changed, motor changed, transmission worked, recall on door, dashboard lights flicker, cup holders broke, seats squeek, automatic door stop working, window moves very slow, hail damaged while waiting on parts but I was held responsible, 9 visits to dealer and there are still problems. I just took the van back in for the 10th time and there is no additional warranty given on the new motor and $75 just for the dealer to look at the van. Please take the time to post to www.bigclassaction.com

Strength:

Middle row captains chairs;good pick-up when entering a highway; flip & fold rear seats

Weakness:

Automatic sliding door; flip down cup holders are flimsy;

For the first few months I loved this vehicle, several nice features, including 2 sliding doors. Then I woke up! The auto. sliding door is a NIGHTMARE and it''s going to cost me a bundle to fix a bad motor on it ($1,200) since my van is just out of the initial warranty. Also, the center of my radio display went black. This was a big investment for me and in the end I''m more than a little disappointed in the quality. Seriously considering trading it in before something else major happens. p.s. Braking is weird - - feels like the thing is never going to stop!

Strength:

can hold a lot of kids? good paint leather is strong

Weakness:

to many to list just look at my summary!

I once loved my van... I bought in July 2000 $28,000After rebate and $3,000 on trade and right away traveled across country to visit family it was great but after that trip EVERYTHING whent wrong on the van. I paid a lot to get all the extras and boy let me tell you this van isn''t worth anything they should be paying me for driving this thing! I have driven a rental more then this thing. I will list all that has gone wrong and many things I just get the run around on fixing it! The doors have been recalled, but also the intior trim has warped causing the paint on van to be scrached off when opening the doors. the cup holders break all warning lights come on everytime I use the thing, for what things don''t seem right: the gas cap? the seat belts broken? and towing to much when my van has all extras that are to make it so it can tow things?!?!?! the montana vision has now broken 2 times the tires that where to be used for 60,000 miles where done in less then 15,000 ( they went flat and non reparable) the battary when dead before the van was even a year the engine makes more noise each day that goes by The transm. feels like it is going to fall off the car and makes the whole van shake.... but they say nothing is wrong... it has been in so many time that we are now looking in to the lemon law and all I will say to those that are bying this van...... please write down every thing don''t just go by what dealer says, go to many for repairs and dont wait.... know your rights and look up what you should know to protect yourself... I am learning the hard way!! Would never buy another..... the van has lose my confidence!

Strength:

Pretty looking, conveince with the door, when it works.

Weakness:

Constant Service calls

I feel this van is not a good purchase. I have had nothing, but problems. We have had this van for a little over two years and it is always something. The power door would not unlock, so the kids could get out. The driver window would not roll up after I pulled away from the drive-thru. Let me tell you that was one cold ride home. My CD player will just spit the CD''s out. My back speakers work when they feel like it. The cup holders (SUCK)! I got to where I just left them broke, because you can''t use them without them breaking. My car has already started rusting, in the part that slides the door back and fourth. I woul never buy one again!

Strength:

Stereo control on the wheel is a nice feature. Very roomy

Weakness:

It is a brand new vehicle, only 4 months old and it is mechanically unrealiable.

The vehicle has stalled 5 or 6 times in the 4 1/2 months since I have owned it. The first time I had just left work. About 1 mile from work at about 20 mph it stalled. This was a 2 lane residential area. I was able to fight off the panic, put on my flashers, and had just enough momentum to make it to the next block and coast into a storefront parking area. My husband suggested that I should shift to neutral and restart the vehicle. This suggestion really paid off on several of the subsequent occurrences. Stalled on residential 4 lane Highway. I had just exited the highway and was traveling at about 30 mph. The vehicle stalled. I shifted to neutral and restarted. Stalled at about 35 mph through rush hour traffic and I was on a 4-lane bridge. This time I was in the right lane, thank goodness, because again without any noise or warning lights/messages the vehicle stalled. Stalled traveling to work on 4 lane divided highway at about 65 mph. I was coasting down a long hill toward my exit. The vehicle stalled, I shifted to neutral and it would not restart. I was able to coast to the exit and then to the side of the road. The vehicle did restart after several attempts. Stalled on my way to work on a 6 lane divided highway at roughly 70 - 72 mph. I was in the center lane with vehicles on the left and right. When the vehicle stalls, the headlights, radio, heater, etc... continue to operate without interruption. The motor completely stops working, however there is no power breaks and no power steering.

Strength:

Roomy, looks nice, drives o.k. minus the rattling.

Weakness:

Electrical system is poor. Body begins to rattle around 20,000 miles. Plastic cup holders break easily. Inside door panels come loose. Sliding doors begin to sag. Unreliable, it''s a lemon. Don''t be fooled by it''s looks.

This van sucks! It'' falling apart before my eyes. At 23,000 milesthe air conditioning pump went out. At 31,000 miles it had a major oil leak, at 36,500 miles the altenator went out(left us stranded in L.A. for 2 days), at 38,000 miles the starter went out and had another major oil leak. We had the rattling fixed and the van still rattles like a schoolbus going over railroad tracks. The sliding doors are off track and the passenger side mirror pops off. There is no help from the dealer, they are basicly sellng lemons. Take my advise and buy a Honda Oddessy.

Strength:

Dual doors. Dual music source so the kids can listen on headphones while we listen to something else. Air compressor. Towing capability.

Weakness:

Leaky engine. Crappy tires.

When we furst looked a vans, the Montana impressed me because it was one of the first available with a power door. We had problems with the alignment at first, but this was traced to the horrible tires that come stock on the van (General Tires) The only other problem we have had is an oil usage problem. After reading up on the engine in my model year, it became evident that oil usage and leaking around the valve covers is a common problem with this particular V-6. This problem has not yet been corrected by the dealer and we may get a new engine out of the deal. The engine issue is the only gripe I have. I will never understand why GM keeps improving the fit and finish of their vehicles and still uses ten to twenty year old engine designs with horrible track records. It would be the perfect van, if not for the engine troubles.
