Ride, Power, engine, good transmittion, load leveler, sound system, comfort for a tall person, It is also in my opinion, the best looking van on the market. The DVD player works fine but I have never really watched a movie on it. Im older and have no kids at home, but it came with the van so why complain? The air pump in the back is handy for blowing up air mattresses ect. It handles very well on the highway, with pavement cracks not as jarring as even a lot of big sedans! It actually handles and rides like a big sedan and I drove Grande Marquis for years before buying this van. The seats are a bit of a pain to remove, but not as bad as some. We take the seats out and sleep on an air mattres in the back when camping.
Weakness:
Some of the selectors for heat, Sound system and the trip computor are difficut to read, especially on a sunny day. The heater could be better, it takes a while to warm up the van. This is a good van! I have had no serious problems at all. The only thing I have had to do is normal maintenence like oil changes. I have an extended warrenty on it just in case, but hope I never have to use it. Reading the reviews on this van and others, including cars, trucks and most other things is that there are people who write bad reviews on anything they choose, just for the fun of it. It is difficult to take the reviews on this site seriously. Im sure there are people who have had genuine problems, but im also sure that can happen with any vehicle! The Montana is as good as it gets with vans. It has more features, that actually work than any other I have driven. I looked at Toyota, Honda, Ford, Dodge and chose the Montana for ride, features, engine reliability and looks. Im not dissapointed at all! Similar Products Used: I drove a Dodge Caravan for a month while my former vehicle was in the shop being repaired and it wasnt bad, but doesnt ride like the Montana, didnt have the comfort, and class that the Montana has. I also tried out the Honda, (very overpriced for what you get) but not bad, Toyota, same thing. Ford Freestar, looks nice, rides nice, but I was scared of it because of the not so good reputation of the Windstars. |

Everything else - especially mechanical WARNING!!!!! Don't waste your money!!! I must agree with the majority. There is no way in God's creation will I ever purchase another Montana, if that means I have to walk. Even with extended waranty, with all the money I spent on repairs (and it is still not completely fixed), I could have a healthy down payment on another van that I don't worry about being on the road with. |

I purchased my 1999 Montana used and with 47,000 miles on the odometer. I have been very happy with it during the eightteen months I have owned it so far. I did have to get the fuel intake manafold fixed, which I have learned is a common problem with vehicles using GM's 3.4 V6 engine, but otherwise it has been one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. I do not plan do getting rid of it anytime soon and I would recommend one to anyone considering a minivan. Similar Products Used: Chrysler Town & Country |

rattles,. shakes apparently a major problems with gaskets and cheap plastic parts PLEASE do not buy this piece of crap, spend money elsewhere!! Have had nothing but problems, I don't mean cosmetic but engine problems, the latest is a warning light that looks like a red bomb that comes on with the parking light. Took it to dealer and he didn"t know what it was. Then tells me (after much persistence, that there is a problem with all Montanas and a leaky gasket, and leaking coolant (not leaking under car but internally). Says GM will fix it for free, but only if customer complains, they are not to mention it first. This is a 5-6 hours job. It will also cost me $129 for coolant flush that will be required??? Why am I paying for a flush that is part of a FM problem. Will never buy GM again will stick with toyotas Similar Products Used: sunfire |

Not enough room behind the seats or aroung the middle captain chairs We bought it with 32000 miles on it with the extended factory warranty(which was crap..but that's another story). It doesn't like cold weather it shakes until moisture evaporates out. The traction control system was a bit challenging until you find the wheel barrings make it go haywire. There needs to be more room...for a family that needs to use the rear seats there isn't a lot of room to get around the middle captains chairs (which are nice so the kids don't fight). You need to have the extended version so you have enough room behind the seats to put I don't know maybe...GROCERIES. But I go out and it starts right up and I've put tons of miles on it. Can't really think of any except that changing the battery took me an hour and the oil filter drips on the crossmember when you change the oil. Bought the Montana new in January of 2000. The van has served us very well. Only minor problems over the last six years /75,000 miles. The power door recall was the only real problem we have had. I did replace the tires and brakes at 50,000 miles. The rear wheel cylinders were seeping but were cheap to replace. (about 35.00 for the pair from Autozone) Did the work myself in a couple of hours. The trim bracket above the power door did break but was reglued to repair. Other than that, no problems.

Plastic parts break Starting to have sensor problems @ 60K I bought my Monty new in August of '99 and, with a few hassles and problems, I still think this vehicle is awesome! (I am glad I bought the extended warranty, though - it has now paid for itself twice over and I still have 13 mos. to go before it expires.) Sure, the rear hatch handle breaks after a few years (you would too if you were pulled at constantly for 3+ years!) - so you buy and install a new one! I've gone through the hassles with the sliding door recalls (both of them) - still had problems with the door bouncing open and not closing until my dealer finally found (after 3 attempts) that the door rail was out of alignment. So far, so good - no problems since it was fixed and it's been 3 years. I've had the intake manifold replaced and now I'm having problems with sensors (the SES light is now lit for the 2nd time in 3 weeks). At least (so far) my dealer fixed my transmission - no more rough shifting after it had been driven for a bit. All in all, I still love it! Rides and drives smoothly, very comfy, lots of room, looks sporty. Similar Products Used: None - first minivan |
