This van has been a repair nightmare from day one. If had not had extended warranty would have broke me! Brakes and rotors at 20,000 miles, transmission at 30,000, tie rod ends at 32000, air conditioning out 3 times before 40,000, now at 82,000 knock in motor, bright side i am sending it down the road adios amigos, what a piece of junk!!! I am trying a town and country, probably should have gone with the japs, but we,ll see.

Engine if not maintained properly

I purchased my 1999 Montana used and with 47,000 miles on the odometer. I have been very happy with it during the eightteen months I have owned it so far. I did have to get the fuel intake manafold fixed, which I have learned is a common problem with vehicles using GM's 3.4 V6 engine, but otherwise it has been one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. I do not plan do getting rid of it anytime soon and I would recommend one to anyone considering a minivan.

PLEASE do not buy this piece of crap, spend money elsewhere!! Have had nothing but problems, I don't mean cosmetic but engine problems, the latest is a warning light that looks like a red bomb that comes on with the parking light. Took it to dealer and he didn"t know what it was. Then tells me (after much persistence, that there is a problem with all Montanas and a leaky gasket, and leaking coolant (not leaking under car but internally). Says GM will fix it for free, but only if customer complains, they are not to mention it first. This is a 5-6 hours job. It will also cost me $129 for coolant flush that will be required??? Why am I paying for a flush that is part of a FM problem. Will never buy GM again will stick with toyotas

Weakness:

Not enough room behind the seats or aroung the middle captain chairs

We bought it with 32000 miles on it with the extended factory warranty(which was crap..but that's another story). It doesn't like cold weather it shakes until moisture evaporates out. The traction control system was a bit challenging until you find the wheel barrings make it go haywire. There needs to be more room...for a family that needs to use the rear seats there isn't a lot of room to get around the middle captains chairs (which are nice so the kids don't fight). You need to have the extended version so you have enough room behind the seats to put I don't know maybe...GROCERIES. But I go out and it starts right up and I've put tons of miles on it.

Can't really think of any except that changing the battery took me an hour and the oil filter drips on the crossmember when you change the oil.

Bought the Montana new in January of 2000. The van has served us very well. Only minor problems over the last six years /75,000 miles. The power door recall was the only real problem we have had. I did replace the tires and brakes at 50,000 miles. The rear wheel cylinders were seeping but were cheap to replace. (about 35.00 for the pair from Autozone) Did the work myself in a couple of hours. The trim bracket above the power door did break but was reglued to repair. Other than that, no problems.

Not sure why we have had such good success after reading reports from other Montana owners.

I switched to American vehicles as I had had been stranded by imports twice. I have not been stranded since switching in 1990.

Plastic parts break Starting to have sensor problems @ 60K

I bought my Monty new in August of '99 and, with a few hassles and problems, I still think this vehicle is awesome! (I am glad I bought the extended warranty, though - it has now paid for itself twice over and I still have 13 mos. to go before it expires.) Sure, the rear hatch handle breaks after a few years (you would too if you were pulled at constantly for 3+ years!) - so you buy and install a new one! I've gone through the hassles with the sliding door recalls (both of them) - still had problems with the door bouncing open and not closing until my dealer finally found (after 3 attempts) that the door rail was out of alignment. So far, so good - no problems since it was fixed and it's been 3 years. I've had the intake manifold replaced and now I'm having problems with sensors (the SES light is now lit for the 2nd time in 3 weeks). At least (so far) my dealer fixed my transmission - no more rough shifting after it had been driven for a bit. All in all, I still love it! Rides and drives smoothly, very comfy, lots of room, looks sporty.

EVERYTHING!

Worst Car we have ever had! DO NOT BUY! Here's what has gone wrong within 25000 miles of owning it. Transmission, Intake manifold gaskets(common problem on 3.4 engine), Check Engine Light, Airbag Light, Power side door opens on its own at times, Transmission again(Solenoid Pack this time), Catalytic Converter(0ver $400 to repair) Oxygen sensor, Engine make noise for first 2 minutes when started(valves), Seats have lost there cushion, Moudling over sliding door has broken 2 times from opening and closing the door I finally just removed it altogether because it kept on hitting my kid in the head, Car has been serviced extremly well. There is no reason for all these problems except its a bad car. Carfax report shows numerouse dealer repairs over its early history. I should have known better. I'm almost done with the payments and I cant wait to dump this piece of junk!

small problems--driver side power window doesn't go up properly, power door locks stopped working at 50k miles (must use remote or manual)

I LOVE this minivan!! It's roomy and practical for a family of 4. Yes we have had a few problems with it over the years but overall it has been great. It has 105K miles now and still runs like it did when we bought it at 35K.
