Weakness:

Poor mechanics, Poor Quality, Poor Reliability, Poor Service, Poor Engineering.

Lot's of problems, starting with: Front end had to have work less than a year old. Brakes failed in mountains, ended up crossing HWY but was lucky no one was comming. Front passanger window would stick all the time. roof pannel came loose, Front brakes calapers needed replacing two times. Back brake shoe broke in half. Van Radio light blacked out. Side molding fell off 5 times, rear door handle broke, Rattle in front dash from new. Poor lights for hwy driving, Stiff steering, intake manifold gasket pooched. Dealer tried to stick it to me. Three dealers in town I took it to all played games. They all said that there was nothing wrong when I said I seen antifreeze leak. It wasn't till I went to a private garage did I find out that I had a problem with the manifold. A lot of the problems I have mentioned were not covered by warranty. anything brake or suspension related are not covered. With the front end problem they said I hit a curb, there were no marks on the tires and I have never hit a curb, yet for the part I had to be back ordered two weeks. Tranny problem, mechanic said it's going to cost 2000 to fix. It's a small magnito that Japanise Vans have on the outside of the Transmision but GM put inside. to fix on Japanise van it's 200 bucks on the GM it's 2000 What a joke. Windows Fog up in winter. Doors fit poorly and rubbed the paint off. Felt roof liner if any marks on it you can't get them off, plastic is soft and cheep. If you ask anybody I know they will all tell you I'm a fanatic at taking care of my equipment. Yet this all happened to me. If someone who didn't care owned one I don't think it would last long.

Strength:

Great options- automatic sliding door, read AC controls, backup assist, etc. Quiet and smooth riding.

Weakness:

Seems cheaply put together. Driver's side sun visor falling down is a serious safety issue and could have easily caused a serious accident. I see that one other user (Henry -posted 9/24) has also experienced this problem.

So far my wife loves the vehicle. It had a couple problems soon after driving off lot though. One problem is the rear air conditioning controls did not work. But a more serious problem is the driver's side sun visor broke (came down from where it attaches to ceiling). Since the visor was lighted, it had a wire that it was hanging by. It happened while my wife was driving - it hit her in the head and then blocked her view she lost control of the vehicle. While trying to regain control with one hand and move the visor out of the way of her view with the other hand she went off the road and was luckily slowed by a snow bank just before hitting a metal post.

good looks, price

Weakness:

poor gas milage. Weak engine and design.

Not impressed. My van stalled on the highway a few nights ago with my wife coming home from work at -39oC. No warnings of low coolant, high temp or check engine. Took it to a garage. He said it showed signs of a head gasket leak. When he removed the heads he could not believe what he saw. Melted gaskets, melted valves, heads warped and cracked. Scored cylinder walls, melted piston rings. The engine needs to be completly replaced. $3200 cdn. It only has 86,000KM. There was no protection safeties to warn us. What a piece of junk. Once the van is fixed I'm going to get rid of it and buy a Ford or import again. My cousing warned me of Pontiac products. He has a 2002 Grand AM that is constantly being fixed. Go import or Ford.

Strength:

Very good quality and drivablity

Weakness:

A little under powered.

This is the second Montana I have purchased after a bad experience with a Dodge Caravan. Both were excellent vehicles with so few problems I can remember what they were if I did have any. I plan on buying another with the next couple of months.

Strength:

It has a comfortable ride.

Weakness:

This vehicle has had problems with the hubs that has caused it to lose AWD/ABS 5 times in the 20 months I have owned it.

Although I enjoy the way the vehicle rides, I have had numerous maintenance problems with it.

Roomy.

Weakness:

Wiper motor, hatch strap, electrical systems, radio quality.

Had a Pontiac 6000 in the 80's so decided to try this after 8 yrs of a great Dodge Caravan.. the 2000 Montana is a pile of problems.. Front Wiper motor has gone out 2x, passenger side window works only intermittently from driver side and sometimes not from passenger side either, back hatch strap broke in first year, the electrical options to make interior lights dim after leaving and to allow passengers to exit while ignition is on take a scientist and much frustration to keep operating as desired. The left half of the radio LCD display went out at 18 months so no clock visible. Windshield seems to be angled just right to get stone damage (4 dings in first year). Never again for this model.

What a worthless vehicle. This van is only 3 years old. The transmission is terrible. It was back to the dealer many times under warranty for rough shifting and loud a "clunking" noises when shifting from reverse to drive. Dealer always said it has no problem. Both seat heaters fixed under warranty, one fixed twice, they are both broken again. Air bag light comes on all the time, "fixed" twice by dealer,on again. Recall on power sliding door latch. 6 months later we get a recall to fix the latch that was fixed in the original recall! Check your rear right quarter panel, where the jack is stored. Ours filled with water every time it rained. If you notice icicles hanging by your right rear tire, you know you have the problem. Rear hatch close strap is broken. Back lighting in stereo console is going out, can only see half of the radio display. Drink holder in front is broken. This van has been nothing but touble since day one. The dealer would not admit any problem with the transmission. Every item the dealer "fixed" under warranty is back. That says something about the quality of service that you get "under warranty". If you purchase this van, get an extended warranty, better yet, look elsewhere for a new van.
