Strength:

lot of room

Weakness:

see above

piece of junk, put over $7,000 into it, continuous problems with electrical system/shorts, sliding doors, locks, rebuilt motor twice, transmission 3 times, replaced 4 water pumps, the radiator, fan, etc. now will not shift from 2nd gear into drive or overdrive, needs whole electrical system rewired. is a total lemon. and still owe $5000 on it, have not had it running for a month, has been to three garages and they can't fix it.

Flexibility, comfort, affordability.

First minivan I've owned. Best automobile I've ad so far. With speed and handling, coupled with cargo or passenger capabilities, I'll never buy another car again! It snows here a lot in the winter, I'll appreciate that front wheel drive when it does. Lots of pep, cruises great on the highway. Last but not least, IT'S A GM!!!!!!

Strength:

Van is very sporty and cool looking.

Weakness:

Immediately after buying this vehicle, the brakes squeaked like crazy. Of course, the dealership said this was normal even though every other car on the road doesn't do it. At one time they told me to slam on the brakes really hard to fix the problem. I'm not a mechanic, but I think this would cause the brake pads to wear worse. Anyway, the dealer replaced the brakes and the squeaking came back.

I purchased this vehicle in February of 1998 with 14,000 miles on it.

Strength:

Great room for people with large famlies.

Weakness:

Cooling problems, front brakes squeal, VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX, I will NEVER purchase a GM product again!

Bought it with 42,000 miles, 7 months later at 58,000 miles, it overheats, front brakes squeal. Very unreliable.

Strength:

Handling, styling, cavernous interior.

Weakness:

Brakes, windshield wipers, stereo, I wish it had the driver's side slider.

With great trepidation, I traded my beloved 1990 Cherokee for a silver 1999 Trans Sport. Having driven the vehicle for almost 20,000 miles, I can say I am pleasantly surprised by the Trans Sport. It has adequate power, handles well and is surprisingly quiet. It pulls a pop-up camper with ease, even through the Adirondacks and Green Mountains. It carries a tremendous amount of "stuff" for camping. My complaints are few. One, the design of the windshield wipers is poor and I have had numerous problems with them in cold weather. Icing is the biggest problem. The brakes seem a bit weak, as the vehicle seems to take a great distance to stop. I like the looks of this van, the silver paint changes from a grey in low light, to a bright silver in the sun. The stereo died after a month and I will be replacing it with an aftermarket unit. It also handles tremendous amounts of snow with ease. All in all, despite a few quirks, I am quite pleased with my van.

About the only thing good I can say for this van is it does not feel like a van driving and the body still looks new.

Weakness:

This van is full of gremlins. Has a severe electrical wiring problem that the dealer and five mechanics cannot find. Never know day to day which electrical piece will not work. Right now the interior lights will not come on, passenger door will not operate from outside, back hatch lock inoperable, driver window will not work. Have replaced numerous modules (never under $400 each), brakes, tranny, wiper motor, ignition switch (lower) 5 times. The dash top has unglued and the only thing holding it down is the dash mat. Glove box doors fall off if operated by one hand only. CD never has operated. Right front window blows air in and shakes if wind is blowing. Gaskets around doors are cracked and falling apart.

Bought used from a dealer 4 1/2 years ago. Had 54,000 miles then. Now has 164,000 highway miles.

Strength:

Great gas milage, good get up and go, mechanically sound, comfortable seating in front, good sound system

Weakness:

Power sliding door failed, waterpump went out, door handle broke, left rear speaker quit working and base works intermittently

We have owned this van since December of 2001. When we got it, it had 72k on it. It now has 99k. We really like it, it hasn't ever broken down, and it's very comforable. Good acceleration, great gas milage for a van. Loved the power sliding door, but it quit working only a few months after we bought it. Has a TON of cargo space if you remove the seats, which are fairly easy to remove. The back seats aren't very comfortable for adults, they're more built for kid legs as they're so low to the ground. The power seat isn't working now because my husband was loading a clothesline pole into the back and struck the buttons with the end of it. The driver's side door handle is broken, which happens a lot on these vans. Will cost $65 to fix that. Waterpump went out at 85k. These vans are also notorious for that. Overall, this is a good vehicle, and if given the chance, I would buy it again. Just be sure to have any used car looked over by a mechanic before you commit to buying it.

Strength:

Comfortable ride for all passengers. Convenient options. Nice looking van.

Weakness:

Power Steering system was the biggest weakness in this van and had been replaced 5 times before trading vehicle in with negative equity. Air compressor, water pump, radiator, power steering pump, steering rack and pinion assembly, electronic control module have all been replaced before 70,000 miles. Did not use platinum spark plugs so needed replacement and hard to do simple maintenance as such. Vehicle produced crack in head and/or head gasket before giving up and I do not give up easy. This was at 90,000 miles. Estimated cost of repairs: $2500 ... of which I used to purchase a new Dodge Ram 1500.

Bought the van used when it was 3 years old. Ran and rode perfect for about 8 months until the van started to give problems. Until getting rid of the vehicle within the last month, the extended warranty paid $6500 and I paid $1600 in repairs. Perhaps I got a bad pear in the bunch, but I, personally, will not waste my money on a GM minivan again.
