Strength:

Interior space, ride quality, acceleration, stereo controls on the steering wheel, rear compressor, EVERYTHING.

Weakness:

low ground clearance, inability to reach the rear bank of cylinders for service and tune. 3 feet of dash board and a dive away hood that you can''t see for clearance.

The fastest stock minivan on the planet. We purchased this van instead of the SUV we were originally looking at. This Trans Sport had AM/FM/Cassette rear heat/air leather seats and power everything. The 3800 engine is powerful and EXTREMELY reliable. it had 109K miles on it. I can''t tell you how many little honda hotrods I have blown the doors off with this van. It is a humbling experience for a sporty car to get beaten by (of all things) a minivan. Only one serious failure in the 27K miles we''ve driven it is on a return trip from Denver my wife was driving and the van just stopped running. It was towed back to town and the next week a buddy of mine (I was out of town) came by and was able to start the car with no problems. We wrote the cause down as vapor lock and have never experienced this again. All in all an outstanding van holds a lot of people/cargo, rides more like a luxo car. and the modular seats are AWESOME. I am 6''5" and I am more than comfortable driving or riding in the front. The back is a little cramped for me. My wife is 5''2" and she can drive it just as well. The only bummer about the whole package is the dash board and hood. You get used to it after a while but 3 or 4 feet of dash board is way too wierd. And that hood, you just can''t see it until you exit the vehicle I love this van and I wish any other car I owned had the ''93 3800 Poncho V6.

Strength:

Reliability, durability, plastic body looks like new, inexpensive parts and service.

Weakness:

Lack of front seat leg room, cheap cloth and carpeting, seats that are lumpy, narrow, and uncomfortable.

Bought this new in Fall of 1993, now have over 112,000 miles. Intend to keep it indefinitely. Only routine maintenance required to over 100,000 miles. At 105,000 miles, noticed smoke under the hood. Dealer said the plastic manifold had to be replaced, for $1200. Another shop said the same. Another mechanic said it was a leaking valve cover gasket, total cost to repair was $100; so look out for the scam artists. The rear valve cover is very difficult to reach to tighten the bolts. Taken in for a tuneup, the Dealer only changed the front three spark plugs, I later discovered. This is a very low maintenance vehicle, extremely reliable and durable. The GM 3800 engine does sound somewhat industrial compared to the better import engines. It has always consumed a quart of oil every 3000 miles. Gas mileage is about what it is rated at, 17 city, 24 highway. This van is good transportation, but not especially comfortable (poor seats and cloth, not much leg room) for long trips. Cost of parts and service beats the imports. No problems with the sliding door.

Have only test driven other minivans, so cannot comment on those. The full size GM cars with the same engine and transmission (Buick LeSabre) are more comfortable.

Plastic body. My sister can't believe that our van is 8 years old. It looks new. Interior is nice, we got one with leather, which cleans up well.

Weakness:

THose darn plastic things that cover the seat latches in the floor. THey don't stay down. ALso, depending on the temp, the van can squeak more than I like.

Bought the van with 49K miles. Now at 75k. Alternator just went out. Have replaced seat belt, and sliding door latch. 3.8 engine is great, smooth and good power. I like the flexible interior. As the kids get bigger, I think we're going to need more leg room in back.

Strength:

Room, Seat functionality , many extras , smooth ride, comfortability,
dependable

Weakness:

That pointy head crackin door thingy. HA HA just kidding.
nothing to complain about nice van.

My first car was an old pontiac lemans sports coup. Since then I have had
many other makes and models including the much acclaimed mustang, and have driven the highly over rated porsch. All of them I had complaints about. My Trans sport on the other hand is in a class all alone. I bought it used at a local dealer and was suprised to find the owners manual and that all maint had been done according to the mannuals requirements. My van has 130,000 plus miles on it and drives like new. All those that say they have had problems with it, I wonder how faithful you were to your cars maint. needs.

I have not had to put alot of money into it. I bought it for $2850 and I have only put $1600 to $1700 into. It would have been only $500 or $600 but I had the transmisson in it at 169000.(good for orignal)
Its very dependible to use. Started every day in the winter. I had replaced only the radiator and fluid, alternator, sparkplugs, cab and button, brakes.
Engine runs very smooth for a 3.1v6 with 170,000.

Weakness:

Under powered 110-120 hores 3.1v6 sucks. suspension sucks, sways too much. Not enough leg rooms for adults. sliding Door sticks. seats uncovertable.

My wife likes the car I like it too. The body espcially ( it does not rust) It a bit high but otherwise ok. Does not make me feel like I am in a big conversion van. Pick up is slow. Ride is smooth. I have only had it since 04/2000 with 155000+ miles on it and it has 171000 miles on it. No engine trouble. I had the Transmission rebuilt at 169000 for $1175. The mechanic said it was just worn out not damaged or dogged out, the person who had it before me took very good care of it. One owner vechile (reommend). Van is perfect for a family and kids (I have 4 kids) back seats not for adults.

Newer styling, good gas mileage, drives and handles well, large gas tank, good power and rides great, lots of room for travelling.

Weakness:

power sliding door has been trouble in the winter, rear child seats uncomfortable,

I have owned this vehicle for 3 years now and it's been quite enjoyable to drive. The ride is very good(extended version) and unlike some of the reports that I had read it has plenty of power. The power sliding door which is very handy will give you trouble in colder temperatures. I've had it in for repair a number of times and they haven't been able to solve the problem completely. Other than that I've had no problems with it and so I would have no problem in buying another one.

Bought used--in 1994 with 65,000 miles on it. Bought a tranmission for it at 80,000-$1900--dealer was gonna charge me $2600--replaced all brake parts myself--I'm a mechanic. Water pumr-heater core, Radiator, AC needs a condenser right now, rear door adjusted, both front wheel bearings, electric fan, brake cable, lots of interior things, headlight switch, power steering leaking, right now I'm trying to fix a problem with it cutting off while I'm driving...all of a sudden it cuts off--right after I loose my speedometer --it's still running but the speedometer reads zero-----the wife hates it---trouble from the start......made for a mechanic

Strength:

As everybody seems to agree, this car really drives smoothly. Nothing to compare with other minivans (of this year). Good automatic transmission... nice and precise shifts. Tough engine.

Weakness:

That is the less reliable vehicle in the world. Braking is weak. You always feel like "if I press too much on the pedal, something is gonna break up". Not enough power (just a 3.1 engine for this huge car). The steering wheel is not centered it's too much on the right! Weird! I changed almost everything on this car. Except the engine.

Wanna know what parts did I change?
- heater fan (twice), prestone pump, alternator (twice), radiator (twice), mufflers (tons of mufflers), brakes (half a ton), oil pan, transmission, wheel bearings, rack and pinion steering, intake gasket, power steering stainless tubing, battery, universal joints, ball joints, brake disks, rear drums, gaz pump, cruise control vacuum, name them alll!!!!

Soo, if you want a long lasting car... Run away from PONTIAC. Pontiac is for the people who have money to change after 60 000 km.
