Strength:

Fast, tons of performance for the price.

Weakness:

First gear is somewhat laggy. A little more punch off the line would be nice. But getting it in a stick would fix this.

I agree with other reviewers, the interior is somewhat barebones compared to other cars. But it has everything you need. I like the seats they really hold you in. The first gear doesn't have a lot of kick until about 3500 RPM. So if I ever try and gun it out of a light the car seems to go really slow at first then it rockets when the turbo kicks in and the engine revs to around 3500 RPM. This might just be becuase I have it in an automatic. The stock sound system is already quite good. I have already upgraded it though with new speakers, subs and two amps. Also a new head unit with and equalizer and separate subwoofer volume control. With all this my car now is really great. The car handles very well and is a lot of fun to drive. I expect to keep it for a very long time.

Strength:

Engine, balanced chassis, AWD, very supportive seats, clear, uncluttered analog gauges and low weight of the car. Additionally, I have never been able to buy hot sports cars for $300 over invoice.

Weakness:

Rubbery shifter, cheap interior and dealers who give you great deals but could care less about selling you options. I guess I could buy them and put them in myself.

This car had potential and is very tight. I just purchased the car and am still breaking it in so I haven''t been able to test the full potential. The dealer told me that I should rev the engine past 4,000rpm within the first 1,000 miles. That''s where the engine really gets goinng. The handling is tight. It should be razor sharp when I replace the stock 16''s with 17/max performance tires. I have owned an M3 and a 300ZX twin turbo before and aside from the interior, I put this car side by side with them (with a couple grand in mods). The interior is really bare bones compared to many sports cars I have driven, but what do expect for such an inexpensive car.

Solid chassis. Great handling. Absorbs bumps with no fuss.

Weakness:

Engine lacks torque.

Great all around car. Has good performance. Great handling. I just blasted down the country roads of Ohio at just under 100 mph with great confidence and comfort. The wind noise was a bit strong. The car felt solid.

Strength:

Sporty style, quick for a 2.2L, AWD, stops and turns on a dime, a CHAMPION in the snow

Weakness:

135 hp is a little low for my taste Boring interior cloth Manual Transmission not avail for this year

I was aiming for a 97 Eclipse GSX, but for the price I had to take the Impreza. The 2.2L 135 hp engine is adequate, though you really miss the turbo. It''s got a unique style, it''s safer than a tank, and like everyone else has said Impreza can take anything you can dish out. A perfect car for a car stereo system.

super reliable 2WD decent in snow good gas milage tough fun to drive can take a massive beating

Weakness:

rear seats could fold down 13 inch tires are too small parts are out of control expensive other than that great car

i bought this car with 60,000 miles and now it has 150,000. i take it off road and drive it super hard right into the ground. even the 1.8L 110 hp has a little zip to it. ill probably try to get another 100,000 miles out of it if i can. its had a few problems but mostly because i beat the living crap out of it day after day. on the highway it can go 100 pretty easy and comfortably.

Model Reviewed: Subaru Impreza Outback Sport

Strength:

Performance -- Subaru makes the best all-wheel drive system for the $$$. You will not find a more fun AWD car for the $$$. The engine is peppy for a 2.5L and has a very sporty feel. Size -- Don''t be fooled by exterior appearance, there is lots of room. Feels bigger than 2002 Jetta.

Weakness:

Interior -- the interior seems to be a lower quality than the rest of the car. The center console has been unstable since purchase, and interior door handle screw went missing. Stereo -- Just adequate.

I like my Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. I don''t love it, I like it. The car is fun to drive, gets great milage (when driven sensibly), compact and you can fit a ton of stuff into it. The only problem I have had is some drum brake noise (rear only) and some backend creaking on bumpy roads. Most surprising thing about this car. . .it is great on the highway. The engine noise isn''t too bad for a 4 cyl 2.5L at 85mph. Fun car to road trip in. Seats are comfortable and visibility is good. I am 6''3" and there is still 3 in. above my head in the front and back seats. More power would be more fun.

Strength:

-All Wheel Drive -alloy rims -great resale value -very loud alarm---it will wake you up. -consumer reports best buy -gas milage 21/28 good for AWD -paintjob -seats -rareity. Theres not a single other car that looks like mine in the whole city of 300,000. I''ve looked.

Weakness:

Not many but I will list. -keyless enty has a very short range. You might want to get an after market system. -gas milage 21/28 not great for small cars -cheep looking and feeling steering wheel and shifter knob. rest of interior is great. -Warranty. 3yr 36000 on most stuff. most other car companies are offering longe warranties standard now. -Higher insurance. AWD. Insurance Companies still thing that AWD means 4X4 -Cheep floppy antenna and bad placing. Good for going through carwashes because it retracts. -Not enough cup holder. The 2 that you do get will onhold 1 large drink and 1 can of soda. -center arm rest too low. You can buy a armrest extension Mostly trivial things that don''t really count because you will find the same type stuff on any car you buy.

Great car. I really did a lot of searching and test driving before I made my choice. For the money I really could not pass the deal up. Subaru has come a long way fron the ugly old GL and loyale models to the outbacks today. It comes stock with a 2.5 ltr 4 cly engine that puts out 165 hp and 166lbs of torque. Thats plenty for me. If you are only interested in racing the you will want to go with the wrx. Standard is the 5 spd trans, power windows and locks, cruise control, foglights,cd player standard warranty, ALL WHEEL DRIVE,and more. I had to purchase keyless entry and alarm and a rear spoiler. For the money that you will spend in a honda, nissan, dodge, ford, or toyota, you will not find anything that is AWD and has everything I have mentioned already for under 25,000. Audi, volvo and volkswagon all have AWD and are very nice cars but the all have one thing in common they cost$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. If you are looking for a great car that will do great in the snow rain and anywhere else. Look into subaru. The standard seats that come in it will keep you secure even if you don''t where you seatbelt. They have a racing seat feel to them. Alloy rims come standard on all subarus. Clean crisp 5 spd trans. The 5 spd has a short throw trans so you can shift fairy quickly. I wanted to get a sun roof but was informed the I will not be able to install one on this model beacuse it would destroy the intergity of the cabin. Window locks and child cafety belts are stadard too. And my favorite thing, sitting at a stop light and a civic or a eclipse pulls up with tuning stickers and wants to race my outback WAGON. I just chuckle and smoke em

Strength:

Power, AWD, handling, looks(yeah I like um)Interior is pretty good for a base car, comfy to drive but can throw around and have fun.

Weakness:

Just that it is so base....but I guess I did not have to buy it huh?

I bought this car new in 2002. It was very cheap,17500 canadian. The "Brighton" signifies basic,no air, power windows, mostly viynl seats, bad stereo........but AWD really good performance. The car is slowly being upgraded...rims,tint,fogs,spoiler dash improvements. The car is great to drive in snow/wet weather and is good on gas. I was going to get the 2002 T.S wagon but at nearly $6000 more, I can live with the base.

Stereo - had to upgrade speakers and add subwoofer immediately. Radio tuner knob - but you get used to it.

Overall - could not be happier. The WRX rides and hanldes better than expected. The power in 4th is awesome. This car is just great fun - when I''m out on the highway, I''ve got this big grin on my face while I''m cruising ! I got a custom leather interior job to sharpen up the inside a little.
