Impreza 2.5 RS
Strength:
Agressive styling, AWD, torque of boxer engine
Weakness:
cheesy interior, no trunk light About 20k its a nice car that draws alot of attention. The car handels extremely well for being rather tall. Body role is minimal, however it maintains excellent contact with the road. The AWD is excellent for all conditions. The engine is extremely quiet and smooth. I ran a 15.8 in the quarter mile while it was bone stock. The car responded well to modification and is much faster now. A great value that is alot of fun for the money. The interior could be a little nicer. Similar Products Used: Audi A4 |

Subaru Impreza L AWD wagon
Strength:
My Impreza L wagon is a terrific compromise between station wagon practicality and sports-car moves. On the test drive, I was pretty impressed by the precise steering, firm ride, and supportive seats, but when I brought it home and really got to wring it out, I was blown away. This thing just grips around hard corners--you steer, it goes. Body lean is imperceptible, and when the tail starts to wag it's very easy to catch. It feels relaxed on the freeway, too, revving around 2500 at 70, and the ride becomes very smooth on good roads. The steering wheel feels great to the touch, and the seats are fantastic on long drives.
Weakness:
The biggest weakness is the 2.2-liter engine. It feels quick around town, with good low-end torque, but it struggles on hills and lags when you punch it to pass on the highway. And although I enjoy a sporty ride, I think some people would find the firm suspension and road noise uncomfortable. Some of the dashboard trim looks and feels cheap, and the standard cassette radio sounds crummy. Lastly, ABS isn't standard, and the non-ABS brakes are subpar. I paid a little over $16,000 for this car, and although it's definitely high for a compact, I think you get what you pay for. The driving experience is outstanding, the car feels well-built, and the Impreza's stellar reliability record provides peace of mind. I have to say that there are much cheaper alternatives out there that might suit you just as well if you're not into driving, but I definitely recommend the Impreza to other younger folks who still wish they had a sports car. Similar Products Used: I also strongly considered a Suzuki Esteem wagon and a Daewoo Nubira wagon. The Daewoo felt too light and mushy to drive, and although I liked the Suzuki's road manners, I wasn't confident in either cars' long-term reliability. Both were priced substantially lower, however. |

Subaru Impreza Outback Sport
Strength:
Sturdy, with the sound of a well built car. Doors sound solid when you close them. Sproty enough to get kicks on the street, cammo'ed well enough to be a family car. Base modle well equiped with pwr win, lks, and tape. Overall good looking car. New generation headlights, crystal clear, and bright. Good low end torque. Drives great under any road condition.
Weakness:
Under powered by the 2.2 with no avalibilty to the 2.5. Tires. Rear seat space. Air intake double filtered?!? Moderate road noise. $16,800 Wonderful little car with what seems to have massive amounts of potential. Demands to be dirven, not babysat. Eye catcher. Keeping eyes open for turbo. Great resale value of the car with 90% of first time owners still driving their subaru's around. Should last a long time. There is no squaking the tires with the AWD, beware the clutch, "chatters" after a serious take off if not smooth, but will wear out with normal driving. Seems to like the most expensive fule best. The sound of the exaust is gurgally, and deep. I love my car, and would recomend it to anybody that wants a sporty car that isn't, or is it? Similar Products Used: None |

Impreza 2.5 RS
Strength:
Very quick, extremely agile, top-notch safety, AWD is perfect in snow, it really flexes its successful rally heritage. Its VERY unique for a compact car, and offers a lot for the price as standard equipment.
Weakness:
Small rear seats. I would rather have a moonroof than a retractable sunroof. Should be a bit more powerful for the price, considering that it is only 165hp. Its father, the rally-winning Subaru Impreza WRC is 280hp (not available in North America) Paid $21,700 for a Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS new. I optioned for the premium sound package II, automatic transmission, floor mats, and the wind deflector for the sunroof. This is the kind of car someone would buy if they are looking for Speed, Dependability, Safety, and Economy in one car. I would not recommend this car for people looking simply for a fast car. There are faster cars, although this car will outpace them in any bad weather. This is the perfect small car for areas with long snow seasons. It would be the perfect car for all seasons if there was a convertible version (just dreaming) and a Supercharger. (Rumored to be available in 2001) Similar Products Used: Tested the Toyota Celica GTS, which is also very nice, but the all-wheel-drive was a selling point for snowy Michigan |

Subaru Impreza coupe
Strength:
this car is a work horse. It runs great even after almost 4 years and about 120000 miles. I had the clutch replaced after 110000 miles, other than that just tires and brakes. Came with rear spoiler cd player, tape player , driver and passenger air bags , plus all wheel drive. very agile and safe.
Weakness:
The air conditioner bogs the engine down, but that is common with small engine cars. the front seats are not that comfortable. rear seats do not fold down. When driving up to speeds of 75 or higher the rpms are almost up to 4, meaning it sucks the gas down. At the time I bought my car I saved about 3,000 dollars versus the honda civic. I might recomend this car for people up north who deal with ice and snow more frequently. as far as I am concerned it does not seem practical to have the awd version in the south. though a good car ,it is not that great on the highway. The engine just works to hard to maintain speeds of 70 or greater. the newer versions of the imprezas may have corrected this problem. I will tell you this, when I go looking for another car, I will go to my local Subaru dealer first. Similar Products Used: the best comparison I have is the honda civic . Although the honda blows away the subaru on gas mileage. the subaru is a much safer car. But because in the south there is not to much ice I have yet to see the all wheel drive in action. |

Impreza 2.5 RS
Strength:
There is alot to like about this car. It's fast. It sticks to the tarmac like glue. It's all wheel drive. It looks bada#@s and, it won consecutive rally championships. Oh yeah, it's a subaru and it'll probably never break down.
Weakness:
I wish the back seats folded down. The spoiler is too tall (personal preferences) and....like any car.....I always want more power. I paid $17,500 for a one year old 98 Impreza 2.5 RS with 10,000 miles on it in September of 98. I case you don't know this is the same car that won consecutive world rally championships in 1997 and 98. The turbocharged version is all the rage with the "blokes" in England. In Japan they offer the WRX with the 2.0 liter turbocharged engine producing a neck snapping 280 (estimated) horsepower in a 2500 pound car. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Porsche. Anyway, the car I have isn't nearly as potent but, it's plenty fast. I have no trouble passing trucks on the mountain passes and it, of course, handles like a dream in the snow. It's less refined than the Audi (and less expensive). The 2.5 RS has a way better driving position than most cars because the boxer engine is placed low in the engine compartment. Lastly, Subaru is going to finally give us the turbocharged version at the end of this year as a 2001 model. Check out this website for some of the best info on one of my favorite cars http://www.impreza-rs.com/. I give it four stars because I want a turbo. all wheel drive, heavy duty suspension, higher ground clearance, std. antilock brakes, just about everything except what's below
Weakness:
firm front seats, not a lot of room in the back for passengers. paid $17,700 plus taxtagtitle in orlando from classic subaru. my second subaru -- the first, a '95 impreza AWD sedan, was sadly totaled while parked in front of my office. thankfully no one was hurt. anyway - what a great car. lots of cargo room with seats down. std. roof rack. all wheel drive in any condition is the way to go. great ground clearance for such a small car. you can really do some light off-roading. dependable. quick. nimble. practical. all the great accolades a car can get this one gets. i can't recommend the impreza more -- everyone should drive these cars, but thankfully, few do in miami. gets me a lot of stares. five stars for all it does. spring for the outback trim; it's worth the extra $1500 or so.
