LL Bean Outback H6.3.0
Strength:
Looks, AWD, timberline green, fully loaded, comfortable leather seats with lumbar support, 16" tires, ABS, 6-CD changer, nice looking and easy button on dash. It has more pep for 6 cylinder on mid-range torque/speed than 4 clyinder model. Easy control dual electric sun/moonroof. Interior rearview mirror compass and headlight dimmer is a nice feature. I especially like the Leather/simulated dash and steering wheel.
Weakness:
no under engine hood light. No glove compartment light, no full analog gauges only has Speed, RPM, temp, and Fuel. Mediocre Low end torque on 6 cylinder, but good mid-range torque for 6 cylinder. They should have put sunroof for front passengers and moonroof for rear passengers. They should have the option of tinted (sunscreen windows) also. Overall, it is one of the nicest fully equipped station wagons I have ever owned especially that it comes with AWD. It rides smooth, takes corners very well and is extremely practical with having the extra room with the rear seats folded down. It is light and airy when the sun/moonroof covers are open. It has excellent visibility only after you remove the rear seat headrests. The exterior/interior color combo is excellent. You feel very safe when driving in rain and slush and even snow. It sticks to the road like glue. Similar Products Used: No comparison to similar brands |

Impreza P1
Strength:
0-60 MPH in 4.6 secs, unparalleled roadholding ability, supportive seats (they need to be at the speeds I can corner), nice alloys (like WRC car), aggresive looks, built in theft tracker.
Weakness:
awkward to drive at 30mph, every boy racer in town wants to race me. I feel sorry for those of you in the US. You can't get your hands on a performance legend (in fact the P1 is UK only, but it is basically a tuned STI VI coupe). Normally aspirated Subarus are for farmers and vets! To understand what Subaru means in Europe and Japan, Australia and other places where they are legendary, you need a fully fledged turbo-nutter model. 276BHP, permanent AWD the only problem is that I need to keep my licence! Similar Products Used: Mazda MX-5, great open top fun, but not in the same performance league as the P1 |

Impreza
Strength:
Has good power v. mileage for mostly city driving. Even does fairly well in mountains; excellent in the snow. Overall the engine is durable.
Weakness:
I barely passed 40K and it seems to be falling apart a little faster than it should. I have had problems with spark plug cables, uneven tire wearing, upholstery stitching coming undone. Has developed too much noise coming from engine. The hupcaps are a disaster -- don't try removing one the first time at night in the rain and mud. The window washers have become inconsistent. Overall, I don't feel like Subarus are what they used to be and I doubt that I would get another one. The impreza has no styling (the newer one with the spoiler looks silly). With the early aging, I don't think I will get to 100K or more like I expected. Similar Products Used: Compares less favorably to older Subarus (1984 hatchback). I also had an 88 hatch, and this Impreza is an improvement. These are the only cars I have owned in past 17 years. |

Subaru Empreza Outback Sport
Strength:
Beautiful Blue Color, Sporty Look, Lots of power for a 4 cyl. Comfortable and attractive interior, nice sound system, unique looking, great miles and mileage and it's all wheel drive!!!!!!!
Weakness:
rather small trunk space but not too bad. Has rear drum brakes (bummer to change the pads). Quite a bit of road noise. I love my Empreza. It's convenient, has only 32k miles on a 97 and runs like a dream. I am on my way to Alaska so i'm looking forward to the great gas mileage and all wheel drive. i'm thrilled about the low insurance rates and safety ratings since i have a little guy who has plenty of room in the back seat and a hound dog in the rear. It's great for small families who aren't rich! My mom and sister only drive subarus now after 9 years experience with them. We bought the empreza after test-driving many other subarus and jeeps and we really liked this one. We had the whole choir of angels when we saw it. Similar Products Used: As compared to other subarus is much smaller but it's still quite nice. Our other cars have included a 79 pinto wagon (nuff said), 81 monte carlo (not as much power), 85 Audi (same kind of power in a 4 cyl. much nicer), 91 vw fox (Way better!!) and a 93 Montero (much smaller and lots more visibility. Much quieter as far as the engine goes but still has more road noise.) |

Turbo
Weakness:
Nothing Funny how the US Sube's can't pull the skin off a rice custard, do yourself a favour, import the Aus/NZ Subaru WRX, and hold on tight. The WRX is a 2.0 4 cyl with a turbo strapped to it, and costs around $20k US...plus import duty, i'd imagine. I feel sorry for you ppl, you're missing out. Strength:
That the name Suburu is Asian so it "sounds" like a good dependable car
Weakness:
It slower than the presidential elections. Did you see that movie Driving Miss Daisy....they used an old black limo instead of the Impreza they were supposed to use but they found that the limo was faster than the Impreza in all categories. I recommend this vehicle to incoherent people....especially old folks because it's that slow. But don't take my word for it, I'm somebody who thinks a Jaguar could beat an M5. Impreza L Wagon
Strength:
AWD system
Weakness:
Not much . . . I love this car! It wasn't too much money for what I got. I needed the AWD for ski trips and with Blizzak tires, it's a regular snowmobile. It has a smooth but tight ride, so it's quite nimble. I like the looks of the L model a lot better than the Outback Sport model with the cheesy two-tone paint. The addition of some alloy wheels and fog lamps really improve the look. It has plenty of head and leg room (I'm 6'). It's fun to drive and it really has no competition unless you want to move up to the Audi A4 with its additional price tag. Similar Products Used: None |

WRX
Strength:
Performance!. I don't know why but in the UK and the US you don't seem to get the higher spec WRX's, mine is the base model here, it only has around 160kw (220 horsepower), while the hotter sti version has been tested here with 340 horsepower (though the japanese have this voluntary horsepower restriction thing which they all ignore but means they understate actuals). Both the wrx and wrx Sti are 2 litre intercooled turbos, but the sti has more work done on the engine internals and a better exhaust system.
Weakness:
Interior is well equipped but a bit plastic. Turbo lag is more noticable on the auto transmission model i drive but apparently much better on the manual sti version. I paid US$9000, new they are US$25,000 and the STI version is US$30,000. This makes it the best performance buy in New Zealand. The Mitsibishi EVO has similar performance (not as nice looking though) but costs about US$5,000 more. Similar Products Used: I have not driven many hi spec cars, the only other one was a v12 etype jag. The wrx reminds me of that a little cos of the waves of power which keep on coming even if you put your foot down when already going fast. |
