Strength:

The Sienna is very quiet and acceleration is strong. Rides well both in the city and on the highway.

Weakness:

The van just CAN'T be a Toyota. I've had the rear axle replaced (they tell me a number of the vehicles have had similar problems)...the front end alignment they can't seem to get to align...the ABS has gone out twice...and those third row seats keep on squeeking when folded for extra space. And there are other minor noises and fit problems that just don't seem right on a $25,000 Toyota.

Once again...I would never have expected such a low grade vehicle from Toyota - particularly at the price I paid. I've had great luck before with my other Toyota products and I'm increasingly frustrated with the dealership's attitude that "Hey, what do you want fom us -it's not like you bought a Lexus!" Anyway, I'm at the point where I'm actually considering a Dodge or Plymouth. I certainly wouldn't recommend the Sienna unless you want to get to know your local dealership's mechanics better.

Strength:

Ride and handling are excellent. Performes well and gas mileage is above average for a van.

Weakness:

HVAC/Audio layout, have to take your eyes off the road to tune the radio! Rear suspension could be set up better for full load conditions. Turning radius too large.

$26,670.
I realize that Toyota has a problem with some of their dealers and their customer relations/ tech centers have to be staffed with Idontgiveadarns. If it weren't for the outstanding dealer support I have, I'm sure I could fall into the "don't like it catagory". This is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned in the forty years of purchasing A LOT of different vehicles. I have over 50K miles on this van and it is just starting to come into its own. I've averaged over 22 mpg overall and the ride, handling and internal utility of the van are way above average. I've had the door/seat/dash squeaks but they have all been "chased" by my dealers service department. Based on my friends and neighbors experience with their GM, Ford and Chrysler products, my van is a standout. Just can't say enough about the overall package in spite of a few "squeeks".

Unless you want a long bed pickup and haul a lot of materials, this van will do the job. Seating in the four captains chairs is great. The back seat is O.K. for kids or short adults but I wouldn't want to ride there over an hour. The factory OEM tires from the factory are lousy and have a big effect on the ride and handling. I changed the tires, and went to full synthetic engine and tranny fluid within 20K miles. What a difference! The dealers reputation WILL make a difference in your satisfaction level. Chose the dealer carefully and you'll be a happy van owner.

Strength:

Rides like a car in both acceleration and handling. Good exterior styling. Good air conditioning (I live in Florida).

Weakness:

Many rattles and squeaks. We had to have the rear leather seats re-upholstered to eliminate their noise. The doors rattle quite a bit. Also had squealing brakes for 18 months. Finally found a dealer (4th visit) who corrected the problem.

Leased the Sienna and have 10 months to go. I will check out the new Honda (now in a 6 cylinder) but believe that we will go with the Sienna again. The only complaint that we have is the interior noises. Hopefully, the new models have taken care of these. Overall a good buy.

Previously owned a Nissan Quest and a Mazda MPV. Even with the noises, the Sienna is by far a superior product.

Strength:

-Good power on the highway

Weakness:

-Windows fog up in cold weather
-Horrible sounding stereo
-Stereo too far from driver
-Door locks not consistent (On some doors you turn the key to the right to unlock them, others you have to twist the key to the right)

It's a nice minivan overall. It does everything a minivan should.

Strength:

Engine, sound system, comfortable, hauling capacity, ABS brakes, styling

Weakness:

Interior fit and finish not to Toyota standards, suspension too soft, seat belts, mirrors, change cup, seats too heavy to handle easily and they squeak in the tumbled position

Overall a good minivan, (our first). My husband thinks he wants his 1990 4Runner back! Seating is great but the front passenger seat needs a few more inches of rearward travel. Also our XLE does not have enough storage compartments for small items. It is comfortable for traveling, a home away from home. Having said all this I am afraid to drive it. I have had two instances of UNINTENDED ACCELERATION and Toyota has been, uncharacteristically, no help. I have driven over 310 thousand miles in 4 Toyotas. I am not happy with Toyota's stance with this problem, basically they said it's our problem, not theirs. In the past their customer service has been very helpful with other major problems we have had with previoius Toyotas. They seemed to have changed their policies and we feel our saftey is more important than their bottom line. Our next vehicle will not be a Toyota!

Strength:

Rides like a car. Very functional. Extremely reliable.

Weakness:

Fogs up badly in cold weather. Poor rear visibility. Wide turning radius (problem in most vans).

Excellent vehicle. I would not hesitate to buy another one. Very glad we upgraded to bucket seats in the middle row to keep the kids from fighting. We have had no problems with this car.

Compares favorably to Windstar and Voyager. The newer Honda Odyssey was not available when we bought or we would have looked at it as well.

Strength:

Acceleration,design,gas mileage,safety rating,quiteness.

Weakness:

Both sliding doors squeak while driving. One of the sliding doors is hard to open. The wood dash kit also squeaks. The suspension is too soft. There is not enough room in the very back once all seats are in place.

I paid $30,000 fully loaded. I would recommend this minivan. But there are issues that need to be addressed:

1) It needs fog lights. All other minivans have them.
2) The suspension needs to be harder, especially in the back.
3) It needs (4)wheel disc brakes. The Previa had them.
4) It needs 16-inch wheels. All other minivans have them.
5) It needs a 25-gallon tank. This would be great for long distance traveling.
6) TRD makes a supercharger for the this engine (awesome).
7) Add a tv-vcr for traveling. You will need it with kids.
8) It needs a GPS system. Honda had one in their minivan.
9) It needs back up sensors for safety. Ford has it on their minivan.
Trust me, I am a car enthusiast. All these prior items will make an awesome minivan that would destroy the competition.
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

The only strengh I can see is that it drives like an automobile rather than a truck.

Weakness:

Having previously owned a Toyata Previa and a Caravan my family is extremely disappointed in our Sienna which has spent as much time in the dealers service department as in our garage. Within one month of purchase the entire AC system blew and it took a month for parts to be found. Two weeks later the digital clock went. The sliding doors on both sides continually freeze shut and can not be opened at all. The locking mechanisms have been replaced on two occasions, yet the doors and door latch buttons continue to stay locked and will not open. Toyota has failed to fix the problem and has ignored all of my complaints. I will NEVER!!! buy a toyota product again. My two fords Explorer and focus are far more reliable. In addition, the third row seats constantlly rattle when placed in the tumble up position.

I paid $27,000 for a lemon. I would not recommend it as it is an ovepriced and unreliable vehicle. In addition Toyota will not stand behind the vehicle when it comes to repairs.

Strength:

Solid construction, car like ride. Interior controls have a solid feel typical of Toyota cars. I regret not buying one soon after the 3rd kid arrived, but I was an anti-minivan holdout.

Weakness:

Rear visability is an issue but probaly so for all minivans. Rear seats and 2 row seats are to heavy for my wife to remove, but at 110lbs (the wife not the seats) she probably could handle them even if they were feather light.

Basic LE with a Cd player and typical features. Paid ~$24K. ($1,100 over invoice, too much but they are so popular what can you do?)

Similar Products Used:

No comparisons except my '91 Toyota 4Runner which has 168,000 trouble free miles to its credit.

The third seat in my friend's Oddessey is nice but with 3 kids we wanted the flexibility of the split 3rd row for maximum separation when needed.
