Strength:

SAFETY! Very nice interior, details.

Weakness:

integrity of small interior parts--radio knob, expander "screws" to hold on seat-back cupholders. The gas milage is about half as much as a sedan.

I've driven Hondas for almost 20 years. We looked at their Odessey minivan, but at the time their top model was VERY basic. Sienna had the safety rating we wanted, a nice interior, a much better exteior "look", and the sun roof I really wanted.

Toyota has almost always been just a hair ahead of Honda in the reviews year to year. Even so, being a diehard Honda driver, who gave very little attention to mechanical upkeep, I am still (6 months after purchase) checking out the reliability, the maintenance needed etc for my Sienna.

The radio knob (adjust balance etc.)split in half one day for no reason. And within days of that, one seat-back cup holder was swinging from one "screw." By the time a replacement came in, the other screw had broken and the holder was on the floor. Made the mistake of using the one new "screw" to hold the cupholder in place. Again, came off before replacement came in!

"Integrity", along with safety, was one of the things that put Toyota ahead of Honda--but so far it's not been my experience. These are really minor items. The trips in to the dealer, however add up. With kids to schedule around those trips become a bigger deal.

I have a tentatively growing trust of my new van. I love the sunroof, love the sunroof, love the sunroof. The Sienna is fun to drive. I love the trunk space--because it is so easy to just flip one or both third row seats forward to make room. There should be a handle or strap, though, to pull the seat back into the upright position when done.

After driving with cruise control located ON the steering wheel for almost 20 years I am STILL having challenges with the "stick"-type cruise control. I've turned on the windshield washers many a time by mistake. I would put it on the right side on top of the steering wheel, one of those toggle things I am used to Ü .

The coin holder, if there really is one (on the left??) would be better if it were a slide out little drawer, mounted just below the AC vents and the mirror adjuster. The coin holder as it is, is too small, and is awkward in its tilt and position. Small details, again.

We love all the storage; cup holders everywhere, the side of the door space, over the wheels spot for stuffed animals to hide, front seat-back pockets, and the CD compartment.

We all love having our own captain's chair! Especially with the space between them--saves us from many a mutiny. If I were shopping for a vehicle right now I would but another Sienna XLE.

Strength:

Acceleration, Comfort, Handles Like a Car

Weakness:

Everyone has Green Sienna, Turning Radius

Overall, very enjoyable car except everyone else seems to have the same color!!! Seats are not interchangable and it would be helpful to have a little more storage in the back for groceries, etc.

Strength:

Quiet, smooth riding, great sound system, great for transporting our grandchild. We would probably have a mini-van even without children or grandchildren. Prefer this over our Lexus ES-300.

Weakness:

The front arm rests aren't really located in a convenient and comfortable position. The power sliding door (right) required a new junction block after about 3 months. This was a quick repair and covered by warranty.

Very impressed with the quietness and luxury, especially for a mini-van. We had a 1996 Lexus ES-300 prior to buying this. This is MUCH nicer

None, I am not very happy with my overall experience with this van.

Weakness:

At 21,000 miles my car started burning about 1-2 quarts of oil per week. I did oil changes fairly regularly however Toyota says I shouldnt have done them at "jiffy Lube". Ha, what a joke. Now they are telly me I need a new engine, and get this, the new engine will make my warrenty null and void. I have contacted the State Attorney General. I am definetly considering a class action suit. Anyone interested?

Toyota really needs to re-think what their saying. Otherwise eventually they will get hit and hit hard. Jiffy Lube needs to also look into this, because Toyota says that they didnt change the oil or it was not good oil. You can bet they'll see me in court.

I,too, have had the "sludge" problem at 21,000 miles--and I do regularly change my oil. Toyota refused to honor the warranty. They cleaned the engine for $3,500, all of which I had to pay for. I do intend to file a complaint with my state Attorney General's office.

According to an aerospace engineer friend who works on plane engines, the most likely problem is a coolant leak of some kind. He said that this would definitly cause a "sludge" problem.

I have never seen this kind of problem before in any other car or in Toyota. There is definitely some kind of engine defect in my opinion. This is my fourth Toyota. Otherwise, I love the van. It has everything I wanted and lots of space. The engine is smooth and has lots of power.

Strength:

Nice-looking van with options my wife wanted - sunroof,5-CD changer.

Weakness:

It rocks from side-to-side almost all of the time, especially when it is breezy or you hit a bump. It doesn't have to even be "windy". Have had it to the dealer three times. They're explanation is that it is a "soft ride". As "Doug" from "Martinez, CA" stated also, "Suspension makes me seasick!" Otherwise, it is wonderful!

Wish we could get to the bottom of this. Wish SOMEONE had some suggestions for us. We can't believe it's just the difference in ride between a Chrysler (firm ride)and a Toyota (soft ride). It rocks, wanders or floats so much that it makes us nauseous. The first time we took it in they said our tires were overinflated (they were at 55 instead of 35). The van came off the truck that way. The second time they re-aligned it. The third time, they said, "That's the way they all ride." We are shocked and disappointed. We're not sure if they haven't found the problem yet or we need to look into different suspension...or try to dump it!

We have had 5 other minivans - Chrysler, Plymouth or Dodge. NEVER this problem with any of them! Transmission problems are the reason we switched. The Sienna has an excellent reputation. We talked to many, many people who own one. We did find another person who's van "wandered" or "rocked". We feel there has to be a problem that has not been addressed, as so many other owners have not had problems, even owners who had Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler mini-vans before.

Strength:

Engine

Weakness:

body integrity, front suspension, radio, electical system overall

Within first 20,000 miles we had radio changed out twice because the tuning buttons would not return to normal position, 2 sets of tires, front brakes and front strut replaced, sliding doors reinforced due to loose rattle while driving (a factory admitted problem). Now the brake light remains on all the time. The dealership was great to work with while the car was under warranty. However, when the radio failed for a third time, at 37,000 miles, neither the dealer or Toyota would help us. The electric door locks were repaired twice within the first 10,000 miles.

The engine runs very smoothly and quietly. The transmission, although smooth, fails to shift at the proper times, causing excessive engine rpm in first gear.

Comfortable, quiet, smooth, good areodynamics, great stereo (JBL speakers)
We love the power sliding door and the front visibility. Generally smacks of quality. Lot's of unexpected bells and whistles. Drives like a car. Uses the Camry chassie and drivetrain. Good (Best!) crash test results. Air bags front and side. Dash and amenities are excellent.

Weakness:

Rear visibility a bit constricted. Large cornering ratio. No power driver's seat on this model. Feels somewhat underpowered but adequate.

So far it seems like a great van. Previously owned a Quest. We shopped around a lot. This van's definately more powerful and smoother than Quest, Windstar, or Dodge. Great stereo. Have Video equipment installed aftermarket and you'll save a bundle (at least half the price the dealer charges).

I'm very concerned about the sluge problem people are talking about. I will definately have all my oil changes done at dealership. It always floors me when people pay 25K plus for a product and the dealer or corporation is rude. What are they thinking? If it (the sluge monster) gets me, I'll sign on to the class action suit.

As of now (3.5K miles)all is great!

This is our first Toyoda. I hope not our last.
