Strength:

Pretty fast. Smooth looking. Never regretted buying it til the transmission left me stranded 100 miles from home. (2000 dollars) Interior was still in great shape after 20 Years. Unbeleivable traction (dry roads!!!!) any speed any corner.

Weakness:

Loud ie, shake rattle and fly. Tops leaked all the time. Rain and wind. Too damn hot winter or summer. Loud, ie, shake rattle and fly. Tops leaked all the time (rain and wind}. Too damn hot winter or summer. Terrible traction in any sudden rain shower. ( wide tires I guess )

Bought it November of '99 for $6500. Had 86,000 miles.

I would get another if I wasn't interested in a '94 or '63. Overall the 80 was great 'til a jackass pulled out in front of me at 45 mph and I totaled it. Nothing but a little back pain and 10650 dollars for the 'vette bought for 6500.
Don't buy one for the a/c or quiet.
BUY IT FOR TH POWER AND HANDLING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

The car looks very mean and lean from the front. Kinda nice engine sound and the driver fits in the car nice and tight. Suspension is ok. The fun factor to drive is high on the scale.

Weakness:

I had a lot of electrical glitches and numerous other problems. I was really dissapointed because I had such high hopes for his car. Radio was he worst I have ever heard. Music sound wasn't crisp. I eventually got new speakers which made the music much more tolerable. Warning lights would flicker on and off sometimes like some sort of Christmas show. Kinda amusing, but frustrating. You should buy earplugs for you and your passenger because the sound at freeway speeds will blow out your eardrums. Absolutely unrefined. Like some kinda cave man built this car. Aluminum engines suck, numerous people can attest that they had to replace their engine because it was just bad. Is chevy over there eyeballing their engines or what? Look at the Vettes history and you will see what the C5 is standing on and you'll know that is a very shaky tower.

I bought the 98' Vette with only 14,000 mi on it. As time went on this car just kept having problems. I should've just built a house next to the dealership repair shop because I was there so much. There are other cars out there that beats the vette. The 911 is faster 0-60, faster in the 1/4 mile, and has a faster top speed. Everyone always complains about the price of a 911 and they say a Corvette is a better buy. Ok, then let me tell you about a car in the same price range that I think people should consider(I know I am) The BMW 2000 M3. It is on the market for 45,000$. Same price as the Vette. It runs the same performance number and is more nimble than the huge vette. I test drove it and it is one hot car. At BMW they know how to build a car. I think the only car they messed up on was the 8 series. Go check out the 2000 M3 numbers and a C5's numbers. You'll have to have someone pinch you to make sure your not dreaming. How is it an inline 6 can pull the same numbers as a aluminum wonder V8 gas hog? Not to mention the quality on BMW is far above quality on Vettes. As the years pass vettes will fall off the road and die will the M3 will keep running strong. Mercedes and Porsche has superior quality as well, but that comes at a higher price. So whats all the fuss about? Do you want a car that scrapes the ground when it hits a spec of dirt. Do you want a car the looks like it was built by Fisher Price? Do you want to be riding on a set of wheels where you know they cut corners on everything and sacrificed quality and reliability just so you could be suckered by the price? They say you get what you pay for. Well what you pay for the vette is just ridiculous. I have never been so dissapointed in owning a car. I sold the 98' and now I drive a 1997 BMW M3. It is a very fun car to drive and I don't worry about when I step of the gas pedal that the clutch will give. I don't worry about bad roads anymore and I don't worry about plastic junk falling apart in my hands. The car has been in the shop once. It was really bad. It needed new,,, brakes, ha ha. BMW my hat is off to you. I can't wait to get the 2000 M3. Chevy is probably wondering how BMW made a car that runs the same performance numbers as the vette and is the same price. Top speed for the 2000 M3 BMW is 20 mph slower than the vette, but who gets up in those numbers using the car as everyday performance street driver? I mean c'mon chevy your cheapness shows in every product you make. Made in America just doesn't mean the same today.

Chevy's motto should be "Quality is Job None"

SUPER DELUXE SPEED!! I love the 12 CD changer/ Bose stereo system. Handles really well. Oh yeah, the gas mileage is almost unbelievable. :)

Weakness:

Is that really a cupholder?

I love this car!! First of all, my insurance went down!! and my gas consumption dcreased as well. (I had a gas guzzling 1998 Pathfinder 4wheel drive.)
I don't think I'll trade this one in for anything.
Since I'm a 30 year old woman, this torch red vette keeps all eyez on me!!

I haven't compared it to any similar cars other than my gas guzzling Pathfinder.

Strength:

Stunning good looks, 345 hp V-8 delivers more power than I'll ever need, every option and amenity imaginable, comfortable and supportive seats, improved ride quality over C-4 Vettes, excellent handling, too much to list....

Weakness:

None other than a couple of trips to the dealership for minor repairs.

I've bought this car new in 1998 and I still love it! It's not a daily driver; I just use it as a weekend and summer toy and it does the job wonderfully. This car still turns heads everywhere I go and the C-5 body style has been around for 5 years now. I think the fact that it's Torch Red adds to the attention-getting factor, but the main reason is that this is a beautiful design that looks better than just about everything on the road(except for cars like the Ferrari 360 Modena, Porsche 911 Turbo and Lamborghini Diablo.....you know, cars that cost anywhere from $100,000 to $200,000 more than a 'Vette). I really don't have any complaints about the car other than the fact that Chevrolet could have given the car a little more powerful exhaust note out of the factory. This car sounds like a kitten compared to a Z28 SS and I wish it had a little more of a growl. Oh well, that's what aftermarket exhaust kits from Eckler's or Mid-America are for. In closing, I will say that this car has my highest recommendation and that potential buyers should seriously consider this car if they're looking for the perfect blend of performance, handling, design and comfort. You will not be disappointed!

Strength:

The color. Admiral Blue. There is not another color like it.
The car is fully loaded. The ride control is great for performance on curvy roads and also for cruising down the freeway.
The convertable top is easy to take down and put back on. It only takes minutes.
The power the car has is great. You do not get left behind at red lights or the freeway. I have taken every other car that has tried to race me.
When you lock the possy in the car will launch off of the line.
All of the gages from change oil to low/flat tire are great.
To me, the biggest strengths are the power, the color, and the body.

Weakness:

The Boss CD player stopped working.
The seals wear out quick on the convertible top. I used the pressure washer at the car wash on my back glass and it completely ripped the seal holding the glass in. Come on Chevy, you could have come up with a better design then that to hold that glass in. Plus to fix that seal I had to replace the whole top. You can't just have the seal replaced. Who designed that?
The side mirrors are not quit long enough to see your blind spots good.

I bought this car in December of 2000. It had 47,000 miles on it plus an extended warrenty. I trashed the automatic transmission right away racing it but the warrenty covered it. For a 7 year old car it still turns heads and draws lots of attention. I can not go out on Friday and Saturday nights with out Hotties telling me how much they love my car. Every one who rides with me, once they finally catch their breath they say they have to get one. Every on wants one once they have been in one and have seen how much fun they are to drive. I love showing my car off. Even with the faults I have with it I still love it a lot more then anyother car I have owened.

Strength:

This car like all Corvettes has tons of torque,17" tires makes for tremendous handling. With the LT1 top speed of 170MPH isn't too shabby !!

Weakness:

Like all C4's the interior space is limited, the 4" door sills make it a pain in the neck getting in and out. The bose speakers are junk !!

If you want style and comfort then the Vette is not for you but if your looking for world class performance without having to dish out $100,000 then get in a Vette, you won't regret it !!

Model Reviewed: Z06

Strength:

Fantastic Driving Machine. The Z06 is very easy to drive in town. The clutch which I expected to be very heavy is perfect. I haven't driven a stick in 20 years and this is perhaps the easiest I have ever had. "Fit and finish are excellent. So far I have detected no "sample defects" as Consumer Reports calls them. For a street-legal racer, the Z06 has about all the luxury one can stand. The only real driving option I have is the electrochromic mirrors. There is a ton of trunk space and comfort is good. I drove down to Santa Barbara along the coast and never felt stiff or sore. As I said, the car is easy to drive at city and crowded highway speeds, but when the gas is down past a certain point, you go to warp speed NOW. I learned that "neck-snapping acceleration" is not just a phrase used by auto reviewers. And I haven't even pushed the car to near its limits. I highly recommend Rogers Corvette Center (rogerscorvette.com) to anyone looking for a 'vette.

Weakness:

Watch out for tickets. It is so easy to hit 80 or 90 without even thinking. So far I've gotten by with a warning and it's hard to keep the car at 65 on cruise control. It is nice to see the highway patrol go by looking for some less prudent victim but still.

I hope I never have to eat my words. This car is perfect. Easy to drive around town and a killer on the track. (I haven't actually taken it to the track yet, but you could tell Secretariat was a fast horse just by looking and I have pushed the car just a tiny bit). Value: Want to shell out $150,000 plus for a 360 Modena. Then maybe you'd have an equal vehicle.

I would deffinately recomend for you to buy a vette. It is extremly fast and dangerous if not used responsively. It has a 450hp engine which could blow the doors in on a ford mustang. Has a great bose cd/am/fm radio with great range. i get about 28 miles per gallon for gas. what can i say it is a hell of a car

1972: The chrome, the stance, the looks, the growl, the tradition, the compliments, did I mention the looks we get? It is still reliable.
2001: All of the above plus the power, technology, and sophistication.

Weakness:

1972 Small-block and automatic tranny don't create super-performace but this car is for cruisin and not racing cars at stop lights

My father owns a blue 1972 corvette with an auto tran. and the smaller engine that still 300+ torque. We get looks everywhere, especially at the gas station. My dad bought it at a Vette show in N. Carolina and spent about $7 K to make it look and run as good as new. It looks like he just bought it (amazing)!

My family is currently considering a 2001. The vettes amaze us. They get better and better every year. Each year brings improvements such as exhaust tuning, problem fixing, chrome exhaust tips, flashier wheels, etc.
I would like to get the yellow conv. 6-speed with chrome wheels.

I hope Chevy doesn't make a stripped vette like the previous hardtop was supposed to be because that would make the vette even less exclusive than it its already. I don't want f-body drivers upgarding to vettes and everyone riding around in them. That will take most of the style and feeling out of it.

SPEED (171 MPH!), HANDLING, STYLING, ACCELERATION (0-60 in 4 secs!), and HERITAGE! The titanium exhaust has a GREAT rumble and a unique backflow growl.

Weakness:

the 6 speed is somewhat long-throw. I've never been pulled over in it because I drive somewhat conservatively. It's a little difficult to get in and out of without the memory seats.

This car is an instant classic as well as a great daily driver (so long as you can put up with the stiff suspension). I've never looked forward to driving to work in the morning...until now! :-)
