Strength:

I got the 5 speed automatic. It shifts faster than I ever could manually. The V8 roar is music to my ears! Gas mileage is decent on the freeway (23 @80mph). Very stable at high speeds.
Very solid construction.

Weakness:

Too stable at high speeds???? I've done 100 without thinking about it. I have to use the cruise control, or else I'm afraid I'll get a ticket. The ride is a little firm but I like it.

My only problem has been the rear defroster that went out.

Great styling. Comfortable interior. Nice ergonomics....controls are a finger touch away.
Great "Bang for the Buck" especially the GT.

- 5.0L Engine - A Modern Classic - Easy to Hop Up

Weakness:

- Hard to Find One In Good Shape These Days - Crack On C-Piller is Common - "Fifth Spring" Chassis - Borg Warner T-5 Likes To Eat 3rd Gear - Likes to do 180's in the rain

Back in 1997 a relative of mine happened to get an 89 GT. Impressed, I started shopping and found a good deal on a used 1988 Mustang GT w/ 88000 miles on it. It was definitely a steal at the time, and you can't find a fox body at that price now. That vehicle provided me with 5 years and 70000 miles of reliable service EXCEPT for the transmission. There are a lot of things about the old car that I miss on the new 04 I have, mainly the little things. For example the seats: my 5.0 had adjustble side bolsters and thigh support, the 04 does not have this. On both driver and passenger seats there was power lumber, new Mustangs only have it on the driver side. The old Mustang had a cool swivel map light, the new ones have cheesy toggle switches you have to reach behind your head for. Old Mustangs had lighted vanity mirrors in the sun visors- can't get them in the new ones. But the new Mustang has its advantages. mainly being the appearance of the dash sexy, curvacious), the 4.6 is way smooth and doesn't choke out at 5000 rpm like a stock 5.0 would. You also can't find too many older Mustangs that haven't been hopped up or beaten on in some way. In conclusion, if you can find a fox body Mustang that hasn't been thrashed on for under 8k, buy it. My guess is they are extremely hard to come by.

- Interior Fit and Finish - Squeek Behind the Radio - Sometimes Gets Wrong Kind of Attention

After having owned several Mustangs, and having given enough time for my driving record to cool off, it was time to get back in the saddle again. My old 5.0 was one of the great loves of my life and I thought it would be hard to top it, but I am very happy with my new GT. I had been waiting for the 05's to come out so I could compare, but I was disappointed by retro look of them. The shape of the original without all the chrome just wasn't doing it for me. I sat in an 05, than in an 04-- the 04' felt like home and the 05' didn't. This was December of 2004 and I got it at the right time. A "new" 04 with 137 miles for $24500-- the only option I didn't have was the mach 1000 audio system. One year later I am not a bit disappointed with my car-- except for the squeek behind the radio. One other gripe I have is about the slop in the drivetrain and occassional "clank" in the tranny when shifting into reverse. But those are minor concerns. The Mustang GT is well priced, true to its heritage and fun to drive. Driving the Mustang makes everything else seem like public transportation.

Strength:

If you hate visits to the mechanic, if you hate a slow car, and if you hate to drive a disposable import or cheap american junker because you can't afford a Viper, then the Mustang should be your next car too.

Weakness:

Use leather conditioner or seats will rip.

Among others, I have owened two Trans Am's, two Camaros , and two eclipse's before getting my Mustang. Got a great deal for $5500 with 73K miles on an all black 96' GT Convertible because the top was in bad shape. $125 for a new top on ebay and 7 hours of instalation later I managed to save quite a bit of money. My friend owns a 95 GT convertible with a 5.0 engine (last year made) and after driving mine said he likes the 4.6 much better as far a top speed and smooth operation. The leather seats do not last at all. The leather used is low quality and these seats will rip if not properly maintained, specially on convertibles. Another problem is the universal joints can break and cause shifting vibrations after too many fast lounges but these are $15 for stronger ones at most places. Mechanically, this car is great. After owning GM's Camaros and T/A's mechanical nightmares, this is a true relieve. With proper care, this is the kind of car that will be around 20 or 30 years from now because of it's siplicity in construction and straight forward engine power. It doesn't try to be like a spaceship on wheels with a million things that end up breaking until too many problems make you get rid of it. It's like a classic with all the must-have modern conviniences. Another good thing is that you can feel proud of driving this car anywhere or any situation. I look out my bedroom window a few times a day just to look at it. I've owned many sports cars and this ranks as the all-around best so far. You should get a GT or you will regret it everytime you see one pass by your V6. My next car will be a Mustang as well. Love those new retro 2005's but that will have to wait a few years.

Horrible in rain or snow. Small trunk space. Uses up alot of gas

Wow what a car. Just before i turned 17 i got this car and didnt ever drive any other car. I learned to do manual on it and it was amazingly fast. As a normal teenager i plan on putting things onto it. So far i put on a SLP Loudmouth exhaust system and a BOMZ Racing cold air intake. I love dring it around expecially when its hot out and i can put the top down. It's very comfortable and fun to drive.

Weakness:

headlights are foggy small on inside (not a good family car)

I love my mustang!! I have never had a problem with it, until recently my Service Engine Soon light came on, but was checked and there was no problem. I have had it for 3 years, and I would recommend it to anyone. The car handles very good, and gets good gas mileage on long road trips. It's also very stylish. I'm selling it only because my family is growing, and will miss it GREATLY!!

Model Reviewed: GT Convertible

Strength:

V8 speed. Easy engine to work with. TONS of aftermarket parts to make it run faster.

Weakness:

Interior build is very poor.

This is the second Mustang that I've own. My first Mustang was a silver 2000 V6 convertible, but I will include that review with this one as well. Now I owned a yellow GT convertible. Where to start... it's a Mustang. V6 or V8, it's a really fun car, especially the convertible. If you're looking for just a fun car without the cost, a V6 is enough. It's not fast, but it does have some pep to it. A lot of people state that they went with a V6 because of cost, but if you are a smart shopper, you will never say that excuse. I paid $13700 for my V6. $300 more for the GT. I was under 25 with a perfect driving record and my GT insurance went down $200 on the GT. Also, the gas mileage is the same as the V6, and on city it's even better with an average of 24 miles to the gallon. Of course, that is after a cold air intake, mass air sensor, and underdrive pulley. It made the car more efficient hence using less gas. The GT is really where it's at. You can get a used one for a very good price. And if you learn to drive, it's fast! Both car mechanically are pretty solid. But do yourself a favor and never get an automatic V8. I drove a 2002 GT with a 5-speed manual at the track, completely stock, and drove a best of 13.89. My 2001 GT auto with cai, mas, and pulleys bested with a 14.57. It's just not worth it getting an auto if you want speed. The part I hated was the interior. Plastic, plastic, plastic. I can take out the door with two screws, the back seat with no tools, and center console with one screw. It just says a lot about Ford. The exterior and engine are built pretty solid, but the interior drove me crazy. I don't like Ford, but a Mustang is definitely a fun car, Own one and when we're old we'll be able to say "I used to have a Mustang in my younger days" and kids will think you were so cool. Ha ha! Would I recommend it? Yes, but not a V8 automatic. Hope my information was helpful.

Strength:

lots of passing power awesome looks nice factory radio/cd changer great for weekend drives a real head turner

Weakness:

poor ergonomics. cramped. no auto door locking feature: when vehicle is moving the car will not automaticaly lock Small gas tank: lacks automatic on and off headlights that GM uses No forward and back steering wheel adjustment center armrest cavity is small and does not lock. no cruse control "on" indicator light shifter is too far forward

I purchased this mustang on a whim i had always wanted a rag top sports car. So when the opportunity came i took it. I had previously driven a 99 Z71 silverado pickup. This is now my winter ride. I knew i was going from a BIG P/U to a little sports car. Having a gas guzzling V-8 was no shock to me either. I think my pony car is nice but i have a lot of pet peeves with it. The windshield is slanted too far back and too low. I'm 5'9" and have problems seeing traffic lights with the top up,no matter how i adjust the drivers seat. Unless i stop waaay back behind the white line or tilt my head to the left and look through the drivers side window i can't see them. The arm rests are absolutely worthless . The drivers side door rest is too shallow and the center console/armrest is set to far back. I basically drive with my arms resting on top of my thighs or arms straight out at 10 and 2. This gets very tiring on long commutes. I also think the steering wheel is to far forward. It needs adjustable forward and back movement like corvettes and Cadillacs have. To sum it all up im not sure if ill have that car at this time next year.

Model Reviewed: mustang cobra vert

Strength:

quick car, very reliable, stylish,V8 rumble. Makes ricers look silly(they make themselves look silly anywayz with gigantic wings, stickers and ugly bodykits. The Civic is of equal power to that of an LS1 or an LS6 engine. The 03 Cobra engine is no match for the B16 V-tec. Nothing can get close to the handling capability of that of a Civic DX. Let me not bring up the Type R. Its a supercar. It will destroy you, It will destroy me, Itll destroy Stangnet and will keep on destroying. Dont ever underestimate the power of the V-TEC!!! LOL!

Weakness:

Same basic interior since 94

I bought my first mustang in feb 2000. It was a 98 black v6. Great looking reliable car, no problems at all. Not very fast however. Two years later I upgraded to a 98 gt. Pretty quick, especially with the cai, pullies, chip,tb,plenum, custom exhaust. Very few problems, driver's side valve cover gasket went, so did the gasket that connects the filler tube to the gas tank. But those weren't expensive at all. And the headlights fogged up as do all mustangs, nothing that some euro clear ones off ebay wouldn't fix for 90 dollars. The only real problem I even had was the IAC. And if you can turn a ratchet twice(two bolts) to unbolt it and spray it with throttle body cleaner then problem solved. Sold the gt a month ago Because the 96-98 gt's are the basterd stepchildren of gt's, 96-97 rated at 215hp and the 98 225hp with not much of an aftermarket following. Sure, the 5.0 had similar numbers but the aftermarket is huge for them. I recommend a 5.0,96-98 cobra,or 99+gt. Oh yeah, I traded the gt for a 99 cobra vert.

Incredibly fast Stock ehxaust sounds good, but an aftermarket high flow is like nothing else you've ever heard. Amazing Handling is good. Good fit and finish - 4 years old, no rattles, even in the convertable Interior - simple, but stylish - good leather Always attracts attention Girls love it

Weakness:

Going from a 160 horsepower civic, the mustang's power still scares me sometimes...I guess not a weakness. Little more body roll than I'm used to, after driving a heavily modified 2001 civic

This is my first REAL car, and all I can say is that it is amazing. I'll start off by confessing that I am a reformed rice rocket tuner. I know, I know, please dont hold it against me. I now see the way. My convertable is black on black on black leather, and came with 17" chrome 5-star rims from Eagle Alloy, with 275/45/zr17 tires (standard on the 2000 "spring special" from ford). The exterior is awesome, 4 years old and no fading, no scratches, still shines like new, very solid. Interior is very comfortable, but the 5-speed shifter could have been situated a little closer to the driver, but no big deal. The leather is great, and very comfortable. The car's power is the best part. Like I said, this is my first real car. By real, I mean I drove a souped up 2001 civic, but now realized it was just a lawnmower on steroids. I bought the stang with a high flow exhaust already installed. No cats, no mufflers. Alberta doesnt utilize emissions testing (I love it!). The sound emanating from this thing is just as cool as the power itself. I catch myself laughing at myself every once in a while when I think back about how I thought my civic was fast, and sounded powerful. Best part about this car is the stares and comments it generates on the streets. I get just as many looks from guys in their 60's as girls in their early 20's. All those old guys think back to when they were 20, and driving a fastback of their own. Much more respect than the civic. Import tuners need to see the light. Usually, my tail lights.
