rx-7 gxl non-turbo
Strength:
quick acceleration, great looks, precise handling, very fun to drive, faster than 90% of the cars on the road, definite head-turner, easily modified, high revving, extremely stable and comfortable at 130mph, reliable if taken care of, redlines at 8000 rpm, does exactly what you want it to when you want it to
Weakness:
costly repairs if not taken care of, read up on it before you buy it, change oil every 3k miles or you will pay later, DO NOT let one overheat under any circumstances, be careful who you let work on it--know your mechanic, high priced parts, not enough power in low rpm's, although it turns into a rocket after 2500 rpm i have been extremely satisfied with mine, i would not give it up for anything. i paid 3750 for mine 2 years ago, and i had to shell out 1000 more for a blown seal in the engine because of a stupid mechanic screwing it up while working on it before i owned it. i would recommend it to any car enthusiast who knows how to appreciate spectacular performance and who also knows how to maintain a car, these cars can beat vipers if you put a few good modifications on it(supercharge, nitrous, performance turbos, etc.) basically, if you take care of it, it will take very good care of you. Similar Products Used: mustang, 300zx, toyota supra, porsche 944--it outhandles any american muscle car, is faster than any non-turbo japanese car, and is slightly better in performance than the porsche 944, and looks better than all of them put together! |

Strength:
Its really fast, great handling, fun to drive, the sound of the rotary engine, Its the perfect sports car!
Weakness:
Parts cost too much, Hard to find someone to work on one, gas hog I bought this car a year ago. My dad said not to get it cause he couldn't work on it if it broke. I got the car though and in a month or two it blew the engine. The engine was already messed up when I got the car and I ran it out of oil like a stupid person. But we got a new engine (for $1700) and I love my car. Everyone can't believe how fast it is. Everyone in town knows me by my car. Its almost completely stock. All I did was take the muffler off and put a straight pipe with a tip (REALLY LOUD) and lower my car about 1 1/2". I can take just about everything in my town without a turbo, nitrous,or supercharger. I can take Z28 Camaros, Firebirds, Trans Ams, Integra's, You name it I'll race it! Get one, you'll thank me! Similar Products Used: Any muscle or Euro car without a turbo or nitrous or supercharger |

Strength:
Classic looks and exclusity.Well maintained examples are rare and they do attract attention. The SE model has 35 hp over the other models, bigger 4 wheel disc brakes, and bigger wheels, which delivers better handling.Ergonomics are a dream..all the buttons and switches are placed where God intended. Its also reliable........only 180k miles on the first engine.Handling and acceleration are great..the car does know how to talk with the driver.Read the 3/84 issue of Car and driver...they sum up the car quite well
Weakness:
Parts availbility and cost, which can make the car a money pit A great car 17 yrs ago aand still a great one now.But best used as a 2nd car or as a race car.Did I say money pit earlier??Many of those parts just wear out.My $2500 car is now a $10000 car, thanks to to the new engine, new paint,16 inch wheels, suspension upgrades, almost restored interior. But sports cars are about passion...and thats why I chose to do all that.I'd recommend the car to anyone willing to drive it and give it the care it deserves........Itll more than give smiles back to the owner Similar Products Used: Toyota Supra....A little more power..not as user friendly..a little bigger..it has a back seat...but it does an independent rear suspension as does the 300z of the same yearGoodcars, but not at all like a GSLSE in personality//how fast you smile when snuggle into the comfy and supportive seats, and then the grin when when you drive it |

RX-7 Popular Package
Strength:
Acceleration is breath taking, style is drop dead gorgeous, and the handling is race car like. Seats hold you firmly in place, and it just fits me like a glove.
Weakness:
You have to understand that your buying a REAL sports car. Which basically means it's a race car for the street. Heat is a fact of life with this car. Make sure you find a mechanic that knows what he's doing. I've fell in love with it since it's first year. There's nothing like it on the road. The sound of the rotary with the turbos reminds me of a jet. I've got mine used with 49,000 km on the clock. The previous owner was very careful with the car which is something that you will have to do as well. The car needs a lot of TLC. It's not a Coupe like the Mudstain 5.slow. You have to remember to idle the car down after long trips on the highway or anytime when your driving hard. The paint on the 93's were prone to chipping at the slightest hint of a rock. This car is not for people taller than 5 feet 9 inchs. Any higher and you'll have severe problems getting in and out. Similar Products Used: Corvette, Supra, 300Z, Porsche 911 C4, NSX |

RX-7 Twin Turbo
Strength:
Quick starter, bad-to-the-bone in a turn: Will not come lose! Power when you need it. Trememdous 10-g acceleration. The harder you drive, the better your chances to stay alive! Incredible body design (now we know from whom the Dodge Viper engineers stole their ideas). Only seats two; with four children, that's a blessing. My wife doesn't like to drive a stick shift: (Sorry dear, I forgot about that. HeHe!)
Weakness:
Attracts a lot of attention from law enforcement agencies. Paid $20,000. The vehicle is pristine at purchase. Previous two owners were car dealership owners, and used the vehicle as private vehicle. At time of purchase, had 36,486 pure miles on it. Immaculate condition. I have never driven a car that is so much fun. As a pilot, it's like flying at mach1. The handling on the corners is beyond belief; the sleek lines, aggresive beauty, and sheer intimidation in appearance is an absolute eye-grabber. I'm 53, and all the little girls honk and wave! Which means... I don't need Viagra! My Turbo keeps the stick in the upright position, and ready to shift whenever I'm in a spot that's tight... which my wife loves! Similar Products Used: In chronological order, my previous sports cars: 1966 Shelby GT350; 2 Z-28's; Porsche 914; Lotus Elan; British Leyland GT-6; Datsun 280ZX; Porsche 928: |

Strength:
Looks, handeling, 40-80 mph acceleration, value.
Weakness:
The first Rx-7s will lose a drag race to just about anything. I don't know if it is common, but my muffler rusted to the point that the chrome tips fell off! The recirculating ball steering setup isn't great, and neither is the rear axle with drum breaks and no limmited slip differential. This car looks great, is very reliable, and gets decent gas milage. It is not very quick from a standing start, but once you get above 40 mph and rev the engine into the 5-6 thousand rpm range, it really moves. Anyone that says that rotary engines are unreliable probably did something stupid, like not changeing their oil every 3 thousand miles, or putting synthetic oil into their rotary. NEVER EVER PUT SYNTHETIC OIL INTO ANY ROTARY ENGINE, IT WILL DESTROY IT! I have owned my car for 2 years and the only thing that broke was the clutch, and that was my fault for attempting to drive up ice covered hills with steep slopes. This car is a good first car for teenage guys. I am eighteen and this was my first car. It is excellent for learning the charachteristics of rear-weel drive sports cars without having to worry about exessive power. Similar Products Used: 1985 300ZX: faster but less reliable and (arguably) uglier. |

Strength:
Great when it goes.
Weakness:
cost of parts. I would never recommend this car to anyone, other than someone willing to spend a lot of time with the car on blocks. I t would be a great project car, to waste away the weekends on. Unfortunately this was to be my daily commuter. Another unsatissfied customer. Mazda Speed HA! Similar Products Used: Mitsi GTO - My previous car, more reliable a lot heavier, but better in the curves. Wish I never sold it. |

Strength:
Good looks and Fast
Weakness:
Gas guzzling waste of money. This car was designed for dwarves. If you're taller than 6' forget this car, it was designed for 4' munchkins. Currently she is spending half her life in the garage and the other half in a state of operation. Before purchasing this baby, make sure you have a good mechanic who knows how to fix rotaries, otherwise like me you will end up with an expesive finnacial headache. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Rocket like acceleration
Weakness:
Turbo lag 4000 smackers got me the most fun I have ever driven! This modified rotary now has about 280hp and when you hit 4000rpms it is quite a rush. This car will drive you nuts sometimes when you try to figure out what is wrong with it but it is actually pretty easy to work on. Buy one and HAVE FUN! The car that I own has been babied by me but the car handles like a dream.will pick up speed after 1500rpms like nothing and can hold her own with other big engine cars. She (with proper care) will respond to what I want when I want it.Inteirior seems to wrap around you. all the controls are at your finger tips. The appeal from the public is alsome. Not many of them around here so it atracts attention. Alot of potential for upgraiding and profecting. Can add horses easy and you won't sacrafice proformance doing it. I have alot to learn about rotary engines but I will learn and profect my car!!!!
Weakness:
High cost in parts, I go to just yard for parts when I can and fix my own conponets when I can.Plastic dash parts crack over time and need replaced. Needs alot of tlc but well worth it.Point blank, If you love your car a little TLC won't kill you!!sucks in snow. sand bags help and knoby tires in the rear during winter. I hop in my RX-7 in the morning and she starts all the time, She reves and I take off and nobody can touch me. I did alot of mods and she has taken them very well. I thought the more horses I added the worse she would handle.I was wrong, It seens the more I give her the more hungery she gets. She handles great and yes she is low on pick up in the low rpms ( witch I will eliminate with a aluminum fly wheel) but once she is at two grand or higher she takes off. The car is a non-turbo 87 2nd gen rocket. Any she will get faster!!! If I have to I'll buy a new 13b and replace the old one but I will NEVER sell her. RX-7 will be collecors car in the future because of the rotary engine and the rarness of them. there sleekness doesn't hurt either. For those of you who oun one know of what I speak and those of you who don't wish you did. Similar Products Used: rx1,mustang,celica,300zx and all that think they can beat me,hee hee |
