This car is meant for the rotary enthusiast.. it has AWESOME looks, rocket acceleration, outstanding handling, and can beat most things on the road these days.. twin turbo, with absolutely no lag.. High revving.. about 8k redline.. :) People think your car is a 2000 model, when it's actually about 7 years old.. haha.. and I love the look that Viper owners and Corvette owners give u knowing that they spent like 2-3x as much on their car than u, when yours can keep up with it.. hehe.. the bose system is pretty good in my opinion.. for factory, it's one of the bests.. with some simple bolt on mods, your car can gain enough power to beat practically ANY car on the road..
Weakness:
Poor gas mileage.. on a full tank of gas, I can probably get to about 300kms or so.. it uses the PREMIUM stuff, so it costs u MORE to fill up.. I haven't had any engine problems, yet, but the idea of the rebuild is scary.. hehe.. cuz it can come at u at any time.. Cops can tag u easily cuz it stands out so much.. In general, this car is awesome.. there's nothing like it on the road these days.. they're REALLY rare.. if you find one, you're lucky.. even though rotaries are not as reliable as normal piston engines, the power, thrill, and excitement that u receive from this car just overwhelms it.. if you've never driven an rx7, DO IT NOW!!! I swear you won't turn back.. :) You'll love it.. the feeling of turbocharged 255hp at the rear wheels is awesome at 4500rpm.. AWESOME power throughout the power band.. the handling is awesome.. it can outhandle some pretty expensive cars, such as porsches as well.. the braking power is awesome with huge 11.6" ventilated disc brakes.. u can basically stop on a dime.. even in rain.. :) But be careful, cuz this car CAN bite the innocent driver.. don't be too heavy on the throttle around corners in the rain, cuz you'll find yourself hitting a pole.. But neway, I love my car, and I won't trade it in for any other.. offer me a viper, or a corvette, and be prepared to be declined.. Similar Products Used: 1988 mazda rx7, 1990 nissan 300zx tt.. |

Cornering, Easy maintenace, Tons of info at your finger tips. I found this car to be very easy to work on... even though I have never worked on roto's before. Everyone told me I was nuts for buying it, but I haven't run into a major road block yet.
Weakness:
The only weakness I can think of is that because of my personal knowledge base of the car, I can't just listen to what it is trying to tell me. There are so many sensor's on this thing, it's hard to tell what cause equals the symtom. I would not wish this car on just anyone... you must love the thing to have it sitting in your drive-way, and arm yourself with information on RX-7's. The good news is... that what you find on the net and from talking to people should be fairly reliable because people who own these cars love them and are not shy about sharing their knowledge with you, that is unless you take to a dealer(that should be a last resort). Buy it for under $1000.00 and look up Mazdatrix on the web to spend your next $1500.00 and you'll have the "funnest" car for $2500.00 you have ever owned. Nimble handling and good acceleration. Easy to drive fast and handles good
Weakness:
Consumes too much gas. Very high insurance costs. A little turbo lag. Well I've only had the car for a little while but I must say it's worth Similar Products Used: I love the RX-7 but I'm letting it go because I now have a Turbocharged |

This car is so-o-o fun to drive, it zips around corners squarely on all four wheels, no tipping or swaying. And it's as cute as can be!!
Weakness:
Hard to find mechanics to work on them. I bought this car new in '85 and except for maintenance costs, I really haven't had many repairs. Someone told me to definately change the oil every 3,000 miles and it will run forever!! My car has 152,000 and still runs great!! I did have it in California for 13 years before moving back to Michigan, so I think the warmer climate was gentler on it. Even in the snow, it handles pretty good. Most FUN for under 2 grand you will ever have in a sports car period! Power and handling are all 110% sports car....It is what all sports cars should be based on.
Weakness:
The weakness is the lack of technical help when you run into the need for a mechanic. One sure solution if you live in a residential city or anywhere where there are puerto ricans who love these cars then your alright because I'm one of them and I've learned from the best of them! We love these cars from first to third generation. Oh yeah its bad on Gas but what you get in performance is worth every penny! The closest car that compares with upgrades has been my Civic_si but it still lacks the sports car feel and drive. The mustang has the most torque by far but still lacks in reliability and it ability to take abuse like the RX-7, I mean let me see you redline a mustang everyday and have it last....It will never happen!! Its american muscle i'm sorry! The GTI and 300zx do not compare period. When I first got my Rx-7 I didn't know where to begin on upgrades but when I did a little research I found that there is so much for these cars. You can make it suit your needs. I just wanted my Rx-7 to be a mustang killer. So went to Racing Beat which is a performance parts specialist for Rx-7's. I installed a Holley 4-barrel carb with a down draft intake, upgraded the fuel pump, ported and polish the engine, and finally installed a stainless steel exhaust system from headers to muffler. All I have to say is when I floor it and it hits redline and the buzzer sounds to switch gears.....It's music to my ears. When I take my eyes off of the tach and look in my rear view mirror ...well the mustang is long gone in my dust. Haven't had a street mustang touch me yet! Strength:
Revised front and rear from the first version of the second gen.
Weakness:
Interior quality is a little lacking, but not bad. Renesis rotary is on its way. 250hp normally aspirated, new breakthrough in development, will no doubt have engine makers considering their own development. No more most highest hp per litre S2000! Similar Products Used: With the sportscars of its day, this car had virtually no competitition (look up IMSA GTO and U racing days for affirmation), but due to advancement of high tech 4's by Honda etc. it is a little down on power with modern cars. |

Strength:
high revs
Weakness:
ability to flood easy My RX-7 has 200,000 miles on it. The rebuild in it has around 80,000 miles. The engine has been modified with Racing Beat parts. Headers have been added, along with a breakproof Centerforce clutch. I have put this car through what most people would call abuse. I really don't think you can abuse a 12A rotary as long as you give it proper preventative maintanence. I would recommend headers, HKS or K&N air filter, and a Racing Beat muffler for a quick low cost increase in power. This exhaust will give you an awesome but rude sound! If you are going to drive it hard a better clutch is needed rather than stock. I have consistantly pulled 8 grand shifts with this car and she comes back and laughs in my face. Handling is great around sharp corners. I'm able to bark it sideways in 2nd and 3rd gear. This car is excellent for the fast, road raging, wreckless driver if you maintain it. I would always recommend only stock or Racing Beat parts for this car. If you are thinking about buying this car, it is awesome for the money! Similar Products Used: 300 zx, Supra, Porsche |

Mazda RX-7 TurboII
Strength:
- Great handling.
Weakness:
- Gas mileage sucks, but this should be expected on any real sports car such as this. In all respects, this is a great sports car that is very fun to drive, and the turbo rotary engine has plenty of power, especially at higher revs. Rotary engines will stay reliable ONLY if oil changes are done at 3,000 miles, and all other regular maintenance is kept up with at all times. One wrong slip-up and it could literally ruin the engine, especially if you are doing a lot of hard driving with it. As long as you are good with cars and know what you're doing, you shouldn't have a problem. This car is also very easy to modify, and can greatly improve the power of the engine. Handling is superb and the interior is designed like a 2-seater sports car should. Just make sure you keep maintenance up at all times, I can't stress this enough! Go for this car only if you are really into cars. Similar Products Used: 1994 Mazda Protege - Nice reliable transportaion, but I was looking for something with a little more style and edge to it. Protege's cannot compare to RX-7s. |
