Strength:

18" wheels, killer struts, brakes all combine for the best sportscar "feel" under $100K. Awesome 60-100 acceleration. See the hottie in the passenger seat of the Vette over there...she's looking at you...*$S#%# her lamo boyfriend.

Weakness:

Racing seats give more to performance than comfort. Plastic window is a bit cheesy (replaced for 03 models). The S doesn't have the brute low end of muscle car type roadsters (Viper, Vette, etc..) but will catch and pass most of them first turn you come to.

Remember Weird Science? Putting the perfect woman together with elements of various other things? Porsche must have had this device when putting together the Boxster S. A lot of style, some high tech, some art, some sex, some rock and roll.. this car has it all. I have had several roadsters, and all have been fun but ultimately disappointed me in one way or another. So far, the S has done nothing but make me smile. It's fast, agile, stops on a dime, takes corners at speed and asks for more. I was afraid the 250 hp wouldn't be enough, but for such a light car (2800lbs) and the balance of the mid-engine, it's perfect. Any more power would be wasted like a trailer park muscle car. The S2000 and Miata guys will talk about price, the M-Roadster guys about stiffness, the SLK weenies about looks, and the TT guys (used to be one) about uniqueness and style. Sorry, guys, the S beats them all. This is not your mamma's Boxster. Extra power, upgraded suspension and braking, and various extra touches make the S the benchmark.

I have owned 3 MGs, a Miata, a Supra conv., and most recently a TT Roadster before moving to the Boxster S. Until I can afford a 911 Turbo, this IS the only car.

Strength:

Great handling, very respectable speed, quick top

Weakness:

When the car needs some work done, it can REALLY need some work done. Stock sound leaves much to be desired

I got my Boxster in June '99 and had some major problems initially with my rear axel stub. Since then no more major problems and my service at the local Porsche dealership has more or less always been very prompt and immediate. My serpentine belt broke this summer on the way to work, I got it towed by 8AM and got it back 5PM that day. I do wish it had some more HP though. After 3 years the car started to become somewhat mundane, but I've corrected that myself with a K&N airfilter and a B&M short shifter(I HIGHLY recomend this one!). As for the sound system (I got my car before the BOSE system became avail.) the stock is pretty lame, but adding a new amp improves drastically. I also installed a subwoofer and am currently waiting on some MB Quart 316 6.5" component set. Once my warranty expires I'll concentrate on the engine tuning more. The stock engine is still very nice (an is even nicer now with the extra 20 hp and .2L) and the handling is incredible. The car is excellent stock, and still leaves lots of room for customization. In retrospect I kind of wished I waited for the S to come out though, but I plan on keeping this car forever, so by the time I die it'll be better than any standard S could be!

Strength:

Styling, handling (best of any car). (if you want the ultimate sports car, put a 996 motor into your Boxster. Reliability (for such a vehicle).

Weakness:

Cupholders (had custom aftermarket put in) Rear window.

For all those who complain that this car is slow, get a 996. The Boxster is a detuned so that it will not compete with their flagship Porsche. This is the entry level Porsche. Porsche does not endorse or provide any type of support for racing of the Boxsters. I've owned the older 911 Carreras and that car is much faster but my Boxster is much more refined and less maintence. If you want reliability and low maintence of the Japanese cars, get the S2000 or the MR2 spyder at half the price but you are driving a Toyota or Honda. I use my Boxster as an everyday car and have put over 100K mile on it and only have had to do normal repairs and services on it. Porsche is one of the only "super exotics" that can be driven as an everyday car. It is almost as reliable as a Toyota. Maintence is high but not that much more than my Lexus. I know it's no Honda. The Honda and Toyota puts out their HPs at very high RPMs. They do not perform well unless you really drive it very hard, which will kill the life of the engine and drivetrain.

Great handling That roar over 4000rpm Always get looks Highway acceleration Terrific A/C system Plenty of space to put stuff in, including weekend travel luggage Rear spoiler Oil changes every 15,000 miles instead of 3,000 It''s a Porsche!

Weakness:

No cup holders is a bit of a drag, but nothing I haven''t been able to adjust to Any upgrade options are outrageoulsy expensive ($275 for the upgraded shift know, $180 for the colored Porsche crest on the wheels)

My first Porsche, the car I''ve always wanted since I was 9 and now I have it! I rule!!

Strength:

Rock solid chassis, mid engine handling, swiss watch like engine, great automatic top, great brakes, Heated seats(must have option). Dealers selling close to invoice price.

Weakness:

Some of the interior details could have been done in higher grade materials. Car not for somone who is lloking to enhance their image. Best for people who know you get more traction accelerating through a corner.

2.7 Boxster is a great car. 2.7 offers plently of power regardless of what you read in many reviews. 217 Horsepower makes base model move quickly. I have driven an S and car has similar feel just lacks low end grunt of the S. 2.7 is lighter than the S as well. There are few cars that have a chassis as well sorted as this car. BMW roadster has a beautiful engine, but chassis doesnt come close to the Boxster. Mid engine placement of the Boxster engine puts handling in super car range.

Strength:

Masculine styling, performance, styling, Tiptronic, electric top, storage, rollbars, rear electronic spoiler, exhaust system, styling, styling, styling!!!

Weakness:

Plastic rear window (very hard to see through), that''s all.

I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!!!!! Purchased my brand new Boxter four months ago and have been in heaven ever since. Only problem is that I love it so much that I will not leave it parked in a parking lot or hand it over to a valet in fear of it being harmed. I need to get over that I know!! What a sexy sportscar!! The perfect roadster, beautiful styling, fantastic electric top, an engine that purrs, classic instrimentation, over the top handling & performance!!! A+ You are treated like a movie star when you pull up in one of these. I like to be a litle diffrent and chose the Boxter for it''s standout design and masculine strengths.

Strength:

Handles extremely well... With the top down and windows up very minimal noise and wind buffering. Have had no mechanical issues... Seats hold you in very tight. I get quite a bit of compliments

Weakness:

Must be getting old, when I have taken it for a long ride the seats are somewhat uncomfortable (compared to the other cars I have)... son''t think this is a real weakness but somethingk to keep in mind. If you have the extra money... I would recommend the "S", they gave me the "S" for the weekend when my car was being detailed and it was significantly different if performance is you thing...

Bought the car as a weekend toy (April 2001), have 3,000 miles on it to date. Very reliable have not had any problems.

Strength:

Visually appealing. Best convertible top on the market (the Vette is still manual!), except for all the noises, see "Weaknesses". Wonderful brakes.

Weakness:

See "Review Summary", I got a little carried away, but it''s all true. Seats are horribly uncomfortable. After 4 hour roadtrip had to go to chiropractor to be able to bend over again, and I am under 30 years old. Horrible maintenance record, I''m on a first name basis with everyone at the shop, and I baby the car, garaged at home and at work, careful driver, don''t spin the wheels very often at all. Convertible top squeaks, rattles, and any other adjective you can think of to describe a noisy top in the up and down position. I won''t complain about the flexible rear window because it must be that way for the top to fold as it does, but it does flap very loudly when driving 50 mph or faster with the top up. Driver side door sounds like there is change inside it when I shut it. Infuriating "whine/whistle" from engine area that cannot be duplicated during any of my numerous visits to dealership. I have been told this is common during startup or during cold weather. Mine happens sometimes in cold weather, sometimes in hot. Somtimes after an hour of driving, sometimes after many hours of driving. Basically it follows none of the dealerships'' explanations of when the typical whin

I''ve owned my Boxster for 15 months (as of 1 Oct 2001) and I have been in the shop WAY more times than I ever thought I would be with a Porsche. I hit a pothole and had to have both left tires replaced after only 5k miles. Then found a "bubble" on right front tire at 8k miles, replaced. Next, upon advice from technician, replaced both rear tires due to wear and vibration, balancing, 4-wheel alignment ($$$$$) at around 13k. Cargo lid in drivers side door had to be replaced at 18k miles due to finish peeling and looking VERY cheap. Same visit, advised to have left/rear tire replaced due to uneven wear and heavy vibration, once again 4-wheel alignment recommended ($$$$$). Same visit, oil leak at rear main seal repaired, luckily it was covered by warranty, no $$$. Wipers replaced at my cost ($41) due to streaking and "bouncing"; worked MUCH worse after replacement, found to have been installed incorrectly; replaced free of charge. Oh, wait a minute, I forgot, I was supposed to say good things about the car in this section......ummmmm, it drives like a pure dream, when it is not in the shop. This is not the car I expected.

Strength:

Chassis, handling, HID lights, brakes.d

Weakness:

Standard 2.7 liter engine is rather anemic. Rear window should be glass w/defrost not cheap plastic that has to be folded just right every time the top is lowered to prevent permanent creases, etc. Spare parts system in US. Policing of "Porsche certified" body shops and repair facilities.

Summary: Fun Car, terrible service. I took delivery of my custom ''01 in February. It was a joy to drive, then it was damaged by a 17 year old who T-boned me. The IRA porsche certified body shop needed only 37 parts but FOUR months to repair the car. Some *common* Porsche parts were backordered in the USA for 2 months+ (confirmed by Porsche) which is totally unacceptable for a current production car. As far as I am concerned, owning a Porsche is a joy that is counterbalanced by the sheer incompetence of the organization to provide parts and timely repairs. As long as you don''t need repairs, this car is great! What took the cake however was the vandalism from the body shop after I complained about the length of repairs (April-August). They stole the registration, the r-sticker, the inspection sticker. Great service, I''m impressed. Now I wonder what other "presents" they put into the car. Thus, I hope you don''t mind that my enthusiasm for the brand has been tempered. A
