Toyota Supra MKIV Turbo
Strength:
Amazing power, smooth ride, luxury items and feel, solid toyota quality. Easy to maintain. Without any modification it will kill most cars on the road.
Weakness:
Targa top can be a pain to remove and replace. Make sure it's a sunny day (no chance of rain). Unforunately I bought an automatic. Modifications will not come cheap. This is the best car of the heavy techno Japanese era. I test drove both the Nissan and the Mitsubishi. Neither of them had the feel or the power of the Supra. Nothing beats that straight six or the Toyota quality. Similar Products Used: Nissan 300ZX, Mazda RX-7, Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4, |

Supra Turbo (MKIII)
Strength:
Luxurious sports interior, 230 HP, curvacious body style (1986.5-1992) while other cars were still square. A fair bit of storage space with fold down seats and hatch, a very very safe car- built like a tank. Optional targa sports roof is nice.
Weakness:
High expense repairs, back end kicks out very easily, pricy parts, not a cheap car to maintain. Must be meticulously maintained. If you have the time to do this, the supra is a wonderful car to drive and have. Stiff transmission in mine, shifter is awfully high. Head Gaskets on the 7M-GE, 7M-GTE engines tend to go- watch out. Gas mileage leaves a lot to be desired. I paid $8900 Canadian for my 88 Turbo, I'd reccomend getting a mechanic to check out your purchase, as these cars can be bagged on. Definately a fun car to drive and own, but in the rain they can be pretty nasty to control. Gas mileage is very poor, but considering weight and it's an inline 6 turbo.. what can you expect? Definately a fun fun car, esepecially with targa. Similar Products Used: Looks are superior to other sports cars in its class for the years. |

Strength:
Excellent performance, handling, acceleration, but also excellent comfort (87 being much better than 80 - but have to consider age difference).
Weakness:
Head gasket on 1987 to 1992 models. The Toyota Supra is just about the best sports car (Japanese ), you can buy. A high degree of comfort coupled with excellent performance. They are expensive, but more do to the tariffs on imports. These cars are 100% Japanese made then imported. Fully loaded from factory (turbo model - but who gives a damm about NA), these have everything, pw, pd, cruise, air, tilt and telescopic steering, adjustable suspension... And yet they haul a**!!!! I highly recommend any year Supra - buy a turbo if you can. And I can't wait until I can afford a twin turbo (1994-1998), the biggest tradegy is Toyota like many manufactures feel a true "street racing machine" is not needed in their lineup. Who knows maybe they will bring it back - like Nissian and the 300ZX. Similar Products Used: '85 300ZX Turbo |

Strength:
Notice: My car was just totaled in an accident 2 days ago so this is in past tence. It had great acceleration for a in-line 6 cyl. Handled like a dream. Had very distinct lines that set it apart from other cars from its era.
Weakness:
Could have been a littte lighter. Also had a very bad electrical set-up. Doesn't take crashes very well and parts are hard to find. A great all around car. I'm only 16 but have driven a lot of different cars andmy Supra was by far the best. *Until that old lady ran that red light and t-boned me.....sniff....* Similar Products Used: 72 Chevelle Malibu(stock 305): It handled far better and after some practice could kill the Chevelle in acceleration. |

supra twin turbo 6 speed
Strength:
this car has unbeliveable power and performance,in my opinion the best japanese car you can possibly buy. This car has so much potential to be one of the top performers on any track or street race.
Weakness:
The only weakness I have encountered was the price,a little steep but once you drive this thing it all goes away and the attention you get in it is unsurpassed, take the top off on a summer day or a nice night and you feel like a god.Girls love it guys envy it. The car is amazing,I did the research for about a year before I bought one,and words cannot say enough, you have got to test drive one even if you cant afford one try and find one for sale act like your interested in buying it.I bet by the time you are done test driving it you will pull a second mortgage on the house to try and buy it.Even american car enthusiasts can appreciate the supra even though they try and hide it.I take my car out to local hang outs, clubs,It gets respect where ever it goes.I love beating cars that cost twice as much as mine. There is so much technology available for the supras, you can make these cars crank out 500-600 horse with bolt on products without having to rip your engine apart. Strength:
These cars are smooth and reliable. Horsepower comes up quickly with intake, exhaust and a boost controller (320hp). Good looks and great quality.
Weakness:
Heavy but probably saved my life in a serious accident I had. You don't Feel the weight due to the torque. Head gaskets have been a problem but if you torque the head down to 72lbs ft you'll be alright, best thing is to get a metal head gasket from HKS. This car is a true sports car in every respect. Interior is still nicer than newer cars of 2000, like the Camaro (yuck)! It's engine's are built with the best technology for superb performance and reliabilty. American cars are nice if you want to go fast in a straight line? But why? If you want a muscle car then go buy one if you want a real sports gt car the th toyota Supra is for you. Heads turn when you drive by even 12 years later my car still has style and 320hp to boot. Nuff said Respect! Similar Products Used: This car can easily be modified to eat camaro Z28's, 300 zx turbos, stealth twin turbos, I've beat all these cars and more. Very fun to drive it handles on par with BMW M5 @.88g's of lateral acceleration.0-60 in 6.2 stock and quarter mile in 14.7 @ 94mph stock not bad for a car that weigh's 3500lbs. |

Strength:
Handling, feeling of security, longevity, reliability. Still has the original engine and it doesn't seem like it's ever going to bust. Beat the crap out of the clutch the first 60,000 miles and had to get a new one. Once I learned to drive it, never had to get another one.
Weakness:
Parts are expensive. I've had to put about $15,000 in repairs to keep it going. Still beats getting a new car, if saving money is you thing. Leaks oil, but what do you want after 345,000 miles? Air conditioner has been out for years. Antenna kept busting, finally gave up and run without an antenna. Been driving it for 17 years, 20,000 miles per year. Still as tight as a drum after 345,000 miles. Engine light started coming on about 175,000 miles when accelerating above 50 mph. Was like that until it hit 300,000 miles when it failed DEQ. They fixed some kind of ozone filter or something and the engine light no longer comes on. So now I hit the accelerator with no worries. Similar Products Used: None |

Runs Strong, Very reliable, Comfortble, Handles Great, Great features, Looks cool!
Weakness:
Worn out intieror (in my car) but the 87 supra in general is the head gasket I Really like this car. I just turned 16 and my dad bought this car for me. It needs body work because its an 87 and has seen better days, but the engine(7M-GE) is at 130,000+ miles and still runs like a top. NEVER misses. Similar Products Used: I have drove a 1998 Honda Acord V6, 1997 Ford F-150, 1999 Ford Ranger 4X4, and a Ford Crown Victoria. So i really cant compare to other sports cars. |
