Strength:

1-For one thing it looks great.. The handling is awesome.. and theres lots of power.
2- The going rate for this model Supra is low $$ and is well worth what you pay and more. Look for one that has recently replaced a head-gasket and you will be fine

Weakness:

1. The head-gasket problem is a drag and is expensive
2. Gas mileage isnt that great
3. It is alot heavier than most cars

This car is awesome!. I got it after i finished college. Now i have 150,000 miles on it and i still enjoy taking it out for a joyride. The only major problem ive had with it was the head gasket which went out at 140,000. The style is still up to date after all these years...and i think it looks alot better than most cars out there ( except the 1993-1998 Supras).Acceleration wise.. it has a slow pick-up(automatic,non-turbo)... but the overall speed is good.. and it goes around curves at 60mph like nothing. I have a 95 300zx turbo, 98 3000gt, 97 SupraTT and have driven lots of cars.. and my ol' Supra is still a favorite of mine( 97 Supra is my fav.) Perfect car for a teenager/ someone who wants a fun car

Similar Products Used:

95' 300zx Turbo = It handles better than the Supra..but speedwise the 300zx doesnt compare to it.
98' 3000gt= I feel this car is better than the m.3 Supra because it is 12 years younger.. but it is no where close to the m.4 Supra
97' SupraTT- Of course.. the newer Supra wins.. and I'm sure this car will be the best for years to come.
With the new Z and Rx-8 coming out in 2002-3.. expect a even better Supra coming in 3 years

Strength:

For an older car, it still look's great. It has great freeway power, it averages 20 miles per gallon, new and especially used parts are easy to get a hold of.

Weakness:

Parts are a bit expensive, but if you can find a juckyard that carries used part you can usually find a good deal.

Great power and handling for a car made in the 80's. I was fortunate to find a prototype N/A HKS exhaust from japan and with this alone I was able to smoke stock mustangs and tuned N/A 300ZX's. For improved handling an aftermarket suspension is a must. With the stock rims I can corner with a minimal amount of effort. With 17x8.5's (front) and 9.5's (rear) the only skid marks you will see is on my underwear. The head gasket could be a problem though. I've blown 2 myself. After I upgraded to a metal Headgasket (HKS bead-type) and torqued the head bolts to 75 pounds, I haven't had a problem ever since. The metal headgaskets might be a bit more expensive, but it will payoff in the long run. Fix it right the first time and go metal.

Model Reviewed: N/A Supra (Targa Top)

Strength:

All that the ride offers is it's streingths!!!!!!!

Weakness:

Tires go out quick. Can't do my lady in the back seat. Trunk is too small to carry any bodies in it. (J/K). Once the targa is off, makes too much noise on the highway. Oil change is $ 60.00 :-( (syntetic)

Great freakin ride. Can't say enough about it. Although it's not a turbo
it still kicks a$$ (automatic tranny) I get sweated alot in it. Take the top off and the world is yours. Car is a bank to maintain, I just put in over $1000 for regular maintance. But in 1.5 years I had it I never did anything to it but replaced brakes and oil. Very reliable ride. I will never never sell it!!! This car is in my heart for eva. I might get a turbo though. But they dont last as long. Plus even more a bank to maintain that turbo.

Strength:

Very stable on road, fast (if clutch is well) even with slipping clutch I was dancing on the road with it (within speed limits! got only 2 speeding tickets in 3 years). Shame, but I never driven it faster than 90 mph....
In 1990 I had a Ford Granada (European version in Europe) bought it in The Kingdom of the Netherlands. I was driving it at 125 miles per hour. As you know the European versions of Ford are of a much better quality those made in Germany. Never liked cars with engines less than 2,5 litre and now I own one with 2.0 litre...what a shame... :) Best quality of Supra 1989 - you can feel it on yourself, it's like an extension of your own body, handles great at turns. The rear could be a little thicker. Gas mileage wasn't great, but what do you expect from a 3 cylindre sports car?

Weakness:

Head gasket, possibly clutch cylindre, eats oil!! at the age of 10+ stuff gets out of order like speedometre etc. small stuff, shocks got bad as well. Needed several thousand bucks improvement. Wasn't worth it. Had to go.

Quite comfortable, but little space. Very comfortable seats, I could drive for 500 miles without getting tired. Nice body, looks great especially from the front. To bad Toyota quit making Supras. Not sure about 1992+ models. I've never seen one. Air cond. was out so can't tell about that part. Fixing a/c required to much money. Clutch was slipping at the end and finally broke, so had to trade it in for another car. When I bought it (September 1998) it had oil in a cooling tank, paid over $1100 to fix that at Toyota dealership plus a new clutch cylinder as well. They did their job, but they forgot to add liquids etc. Padgett Toyota of Jacksonville, NC. Beware. They took some parts off my car, I suspect they replaced with older ones. I would take pictures of the engine etc. next time. Drives great, I wish I could find a nice 1991 model in an excellent shape. It is quite fast, but not as fast as it could be. I miss it though. Needed more space and didn't want to spend $$$$$$ o replacing a new transmission. It was a 5 speed tranny. Apart from head gasket problem it was a great car. Yes, but I forgot one important thing: it was EATING OIL like hell right when I bought it at around 130,000 miles! It was eating something like 1 quart every 100-200 miles! I got tired of carrying boxes of oil in the trunk! I wanted to keep it forever if not the oil and clutch problem. I have 1998 Mazda 626 4 cyl. automatic now, it's a nice car, I got a great deal ($6000) but what I really wanted was a Nissan 300ZX or maybe (just maybe) Mitsubishi 3000GT. My next car should be a Nissan cause those got everything japanese including engine. I love those old Datsuns. People are restoring them. They're so cute! I also love BMW 525, I owned one for a year in Africa, but I had to leave so I sold it. Great car. I wish I owned
a 535 or 540 or even better the 740. I think 535 would do.

Strength:

The handling is superb. It accelerates strong. It really shines in 3rd gear at about 70mph you punch it and your gone. The four-wheel disk brakes are very strong no fade or soft pedal feel. After 16 years the car still looks and drives great. Oh yeah it probably has the best seats you can get in a stock car. Its also the perfect car for the stereo fanatic.

Weakness:

It has 170,000 miles and i havent had any problems with the head gasket, but i didhave to replace the cam tower gasket and the clutch slave cylinder is leaking. And you you are very limited to tre and wheel seletions. What i found the best thing to do is is to have the rim made bigger.

I love this car. It was my dads before a bought it from him when i turned 16. He took very good care of it. Its a good looking car and is a perfect first car.
