Strength:
Handling, performance, luxury, styling, comfort, finish, silky smooth and quiet. Lives up to expectations and continues to impress - Drive it and you will see...
Weakness:
not much, trunk space is adequate for my needs. Position of window switches, (minor but prefer placement on center console as in my previoue BMW's)otherwise fits like a glove $45 000-00 For a X5 3.0 with Premium and climate packages and a CD changer. Would like to have included the nav system and 19 inch wheels. 3.0 is more than enough power. This is BMW #7 and it has a lot to live up to as I have never had a problem with any of my BMW'S. So far it is right up there with the others and I am completely sattisfied. Would recomend Leith BMW in Raleigh. Similar Products Used: ML320 - Unimpressed, but far better than any US vehicle |

Strength:
Handling is amazing---really is the "anti-SUV" for people who don't like traditonal SUV's. Tons of of torque, quiet as a tomb, and extremely solid. Fantastic fit and finish. I purchased the Sports and Activity Packages--options well spent. Acceleration will make you think you are in a 540I.
Weakness:
Mileage sucks (15.0 MPG). But that goes with the territory. I didn't buy it for the storage factor either--if you want that get an Excursion. They aren't cheap--with the Sports, Acitvity and Lumbar options it puts this clearly into Ranger Rover territory. But after comparing the two vehicles--there is no contest. One of the most exciting vehicles on the road today. Similar Products Used: The Range Rover seems dated, old compared to the X5. And please--there really is no comparison whatsoever to the Mercedes ML series--which are based on a minivan platform. |

Strength:
Great handling, Build quality, Performance, Comfort, lack of road noise or vibration, safety
Weakness:
The trunk could be larger. I wish l could upgrade the wheels/tires without having to by the whole performance option. I would recommend this vehicle to those who will not sacrifice performance or active safety (handling) in an SUV. For the 99% of us who will not be taking their SUV serious off roading, this is the one to have. Similar Products Used: ML430, RX300, QX4, Grand Cherokee. No comparison to any of them. |

Strength:
Very secure and sturdy feel, handling, and steering. Responsiveness to traffic on dry and wet roads is great. Comfortable ride for local and long distance trips.
Weakness:
Arm rest top lid has problems catching. MPG, but this is not a complaint, just wish they would improve and maintain power. The best car that I have owned to date, I will turn 40 this year. Even compared to my E430, I miss the extra power, but the comfort, ride, safety, and luxury are edged out by the X5 in my opinion. The safest car on the road, and I sure feel like that when I am riding around Houston's highways. Similar Products Used: 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, no comparison in ride, Jeep stronger for camping trips on back roads, no four wheeling talk here. Yes, I do and will take my luxury SAV off road but with care and smartness. |

Strength:
Handling on road is excellent, if you go off road make sure your fillings (teeth) are nailed down. The sport suspension is great on road.
Weakness:
Problems with build quality, external mirrors, speaker system, why did BMW not line the door pockets like the 5 series has and have seat pockets on the back of the front seats. Yes price is correct at 1.35 $ to UK pound, can you believe we pay $4.77 a gallon for fuel! This is my second review 6 months on into ownership, not good. I have had a lot of teething problems with, TV, Telephone, External Mirrors, Bonnet release, rear side window blinds, tournea cover part damaged, external temp sensor, rear ashtray works loose. So far the dealer has had my car for 6 days. The blind spot on the rear view mirrors has nearly cost me a paint job, why did they not fit mirrors with wide angle. The speaker system is not up to much although I ordered the 10 speaker upgrade. I am starting a X5ownersclub website and would welcome comments by email, wheels, kits, tyres, anything considered relevent to X5 email me at nigel@x5ownersclub.com Similar Products Used: Range Rover= they will go anywhere drivers usually loose's bottle before car. Porsche Boxster= excellent car, BMW 5 series=great car X5 could learn a few things. |

Strength:
This is the best handling and one of the quickest cars that I have ever driven. Takes corners like a charm. Certainly doesn't feel like a SUV. It is also a great looking vehicle and certainly turns heads wherever you go.
Weakness:
Trunk space on the small side. The X5 is a pleasure to drive. I certainly have no regrets in purchasing it. If you are in the market for an upscale SUV that is great looking, has a lot of pep and handles well on the road but are not planning to do any serious off-roading this is the car for you. Similar Products Used: I have two other cars viz. Lexus 400 and Nissan Pathfinder. While the X5 is not meant to be a heavy duty off road vehicle I have certainly taken it off the pavement onto dug up logging roads and it has performed well. On the pavement it performs extremely well. It seems to respond a lot quicker than my Lexus. |

Strength:
The car is beautifully made with lots of luxurious interior features - leather, burl wood, aluminium details. Stereo sound is excellent with logical controls. I love the solid, safe feeling of the car and it has power to back it up.
Weakness:
I have owened the car for 8 weeks and it has been in the shop 4 times for the same problem - intermittent remote locking problem. An additional related concern is that the doors do not lock automatically after driving off and I feel this is a safety issue. Does the locking system tie in with the airbags? The car is currently at the dealer(7 consecutive days, so far) and a solution is not yet in sight. BMW tech dept. think it is a antenna frequency problem - I live in a large city with lots of radio waves. However, my Audi 8 does not have this problem. I await a solution, though I am doubtful it can be solved. I have yet to hear from BMW HQ to see if they will refund/replace the car for me. If the car had not caused me so much initial irritation and time waisting being in the shop 4 times, to date, I would think the car was reasonable value. However, since it is a new car, there were no negotiations on the retail price. I would suggest waiting at least 6 months until the new V6 comes out - not doubt the competition will help with some deductions in price. Similar Products Used: Range Rover was a consideration - but I decided it was too big. |
