Strength:
Handling, acceleration and comfort are fantastic.
Weakness:
Reliability, dealer service, and parts availability from BMW are amongst the worst I have experienced with a car and dealer. Terrible disappointment for a car in this price category. Seems to have many of the characteristics of the Range Rover 4.0 that I previously owned and that BMW owned for a period of time. I paid 58000 for my X5 with the 4.4 engine. I would recommend that others wait a year or two for BMW to iron out the wrinkles and I would definitely not buy from the same dealer again. Similar Products Used: The Lexus 470 is probably a better value but far less fun to drive. BMW needs to get its act together. |

Strength:
Awesome drive...similar to a sports car!
Weakness:
doors lock automatically and i always forget and have to push the button. Highly reccomend this vehicle as a real sport machine! Drives like a sports car, power galore, best looking truck on the market IMO and excellent build quality. Similar Products Used: Ml 430, Jeep and Bronco |

Strength:
After 3 months & 10,000 miles I still look forward to every chance I get to drive it. Incredible power, comfort, convenience & handling.
Weakness:
A few minor electrical problems but nothing worth worring about, dealer happy to fix them. Somewhat on storage space, but have put an amazing amount of stuff in it for how big the space looks. Fuel economy (averaging about 20 mi/US gal) but seems justifiable when you consider performance. $55,000 US but similar car in US would be 3-4000 US more. Every other vehicle I have to drive now is a chore, I can't imagine driving anything else for any length of time. Can't imagine what another manufacter could do to better this vehicle except storage space. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who can't truly enjoy driving or anyone who has a problem with it's price (if you are over your head in being able to afford it you probably can't enjoy it). Similar Products Used: Toyota 14 years over 700,000 miles on 5 models with not 1 problem, Lexus and a few sad American attempts. |

X5 I6
Strength:
Rides flat in corners and has a nice footprint and the interior is well put together. A lot of features.
Weakness:
Not enough power for the weight, poor gas mileage ... had a few problems with the engine already which I didn't expect. First German car and I don't thing it's a very good value hindsight. I think you get more for you money with the Jeep I6 Similar Products Used: Volvo and VW |

BMW X5
Strength:
Great looks, comfortable interior and ride. Excellent power (I have the 4.4 liter version)and fabulous braking. A wonderful "driving machine" with the added benefits of sitting high, seeing well over traffic, and room to carry things.
Weakness:
Too much dust from the brakes. The wheels always need cleaning. I paid just about $59K for my X5, including the add-on options. I love it and would recommend it to anyone who can afford it. This car offers me everything I was looking for; the SUV height and carrying ability, coupled with the luxury and handling of a BMW product. I've enjoyed it to the fullest; cleaned & polished and looking city-sharp, and dirty, dusty off-road. Similar Products Used: I drove almost all other SUV products; Toyota, Lexus, Mercedes, Infinity, etc. and none compared. I came away from those other test drives feeling that something was "lacking." That was not the case with the X5. |

Strength:
Great looks and handles like a 540.
Weakness:
Storage space is adequate with seats up, but not great. Best handling SUV on the market. I actually like the interior and feel better than the 7 Series. Much more practical than the 5 Series for about the same price. The new 6 cylinder engine is phenominal! Similar Products Used: Mercedes M Class (320 and 430), Lexus RX 300, Infinity Q45 |

Strength:
BMW image, handling & performance (relative to other SUVs), interior design.
Weakness:
Unreasonable price, interior rattles, rough idle, road noise, attitude of dealership (still can't believe that they wouldn't let me test drive this vehicle before plunking $50K) This is a good car, but it seems to have a fair share of new model woes. Moreover, on account of the high demand, most dealerships around have a real attitude problem with customers. I went to three dealerships, and none of them allowed me to take the vehicle around for a test drive (one of them allowed me to start the engine and drive it around the parking lot). Similar Products Used: Ford Explorer. Has far better handling, but is also far more expensive. Beside the handling and performance, other aspects are comparable to those of the Explorer. |

Strength:
None
Weakness:
Stalls for no reason. I wife bought a BMW X5 on a recommendation of Consumer Reports. However, after getting it, at least 9-10 times the car has stalled for no apparent reason. Each time, the engine re-starts fine, but I can't imagine how a luxury brand like this could have this problem. My drive to work takes me through about 15 traffic lights, and I really don't need this headache every morning or evening. Similar Products Used: Acura Legend, Lexus LS400. Handles better, but does not compare well at all on reliability. |

Styling
Weakness:
Space Well, I traded in my ML430 for the X5 4.4 (all my cars are leased). After spending 2 years with the Merc, I wanted a change so I got the X5 instead. No complaints about the Merc, it drives great, styling is alright and it had plenty of storage space. BUT, I got sucked in with the styling with the X5 and didn't consider the space it offered (or didn't offer). The X5 is a great car to drive, handles great, probably the best looking SUV (or whatever BMW wants to call it) but it REALLY sucks in storage space. My wifes civic (4 door) got more trunk space than it. Reliablity is about the same for both vehicles although I think the BMW might be a bit better since it's built in Germany. So for Value, I have to give it a 3, Overal Rating about a 4. Similar Products Used: ML430 |

Strength:
Luxurious, Sporty (feels like a 528i), tight,
Weakness:
Cost If you want a sturdy four wheel drive yet want to get the enjoyment of driving a sport sedan, nobody even comes close to the X5. Similar Products Used: ML320, it does not compare to the X5. The Merc. is poorly built, expensive and drives like a cheap truck. |
