Model Reviewed: Escalade

Strength:

It is a nice looking vehicle but that is the ONLY good thing about it.

Weakness:

It has had problem after problem and Cadillac cannot seem to repair it. The interior is cheap and the plastic cup holders broke off within a month of purchasing. It gets TERRIBLE gas milage (8 miles to the gallon) and everything costs twice as much to repair.

This is one of the best looking and worst running vehicles I have ever owned. Ever since the day I purchased this vehicle it has been a problem. The Escalade was taken to the dealership for repairs on the same problem three times for a total of $2782 and it has not been fixed. Each time they claim it is something else causing the smoke and terrible gas milage but they cannot seem to get it fixed. It is still having the same problem and Cadillac seems to have no idea how to fix it. DO NOT BUY one of these!

service build quality LIST GOES ON! See above.

First of all, the Escalade is the laughing stock of my family and my neighborhood. More problems have happened since the last time I made a review about the vehicle. In the past, I have been accused of not knowing how to drive it, and then there was the ever so common brake problems and engine noises (made a sound similar to a metal bell being hit with a mallet) Still, the vehicle is a nightmare. I regret ever wanting ANY GM product. So far I have had it into the dealer to get the engine clunking fixed. They accused me of 'abusing' the engine. I actually laughed when the service manager said that. I honestly thought he was kidding. The rear door vibrates when going over the smallest pothole, the right speaker in the front work sometimes, the CD player doesn't always give back the CDs, etc... I would NOT reccommend this vehicle to anybody. I await the termination of the lease. I don't understand why this car is "admired" but so many people. Image? I have 28,000 miles on my hateful SUV right now and I've had it for about a year and a half. Some other problems I've experienced with it (that have now been fixed) were a bad seal causing it to puff out blue smoke when I accelerated, the alignment on the wheels is never perfect, the transmission for the front wheels wouldn't let them roll when you put it into Drive... You had to push the gas, put it back into park, then again into drive. This is the poorest vehicle. Like I said, made weakly. I know for a fact I am not the only one who is having problems. My last time in the Cadillac dealership, there was a customer in tears because her 1st gen. Escalade was costing her so much money for the same problems. I joined in with her and let the dept. know that they have unsatisfied customers. Gm 1-800 number is like talking to a wall... they love selling you a car but when it comes to customer service, you're not a priority. Everytime I go into the service dept. there are at least 3 or 4 other Escalades waiting to be serviced. This is a problem if I'm not the only one having problems. I'm waiting for the engine to have a few more problems and then hire a lawyer and serve GM. Listen to my fair warning. All these problems have justified my vehicle rating of a one. It isn't affordable either at $599/month This vehicle does NOT get the advertised gas mileage either. My most recent problems have been a total lack of help from the service department. Let me explain one thing. I drive a vehicle that was worth nearly 55 thousand dollars and when I get a loner car, its a Chevy Cavalier or something similar! Its obsurd! I have not had my vehicle for the past 2 days now and I am stock with a Mitsubishi Lancer. Why should I have to drive about in a tinker toy just because my vehicle is a piece of crap? Anyway, besides that, the wonderful running board on the passenger side came loose the other day causing my 12 year old daughter to slip off while she was standing on it. GM is lucky she did not fall and break something. Also, very recently I have been told to look for another service department because they no longer wanted to work on my vehicle. I spoke to the General Manager and he told me they should not have said that, so luckily, they are still working on it. My favorite problem so far with this vehicle is the wacky tachometer. On cold mornings, it will show ZERO rpm while I accelerate and then when I slow down, it goes up to about 3 (3,000) Some of the glitches have been fixed, but not all of them and some dont stay fixed! My rear door still rattles and vibrates and has been fixed 3 times now! My transmission also slips sometimes and GM will not replace it because they "could not get it to slip for them" From what I hear, a lot of 1st generation escalade owners are filing a class action law suit. If people are having as many problems as I am, please contact me and maybe we can all get together and prove to GM that we will not stand for it-> Truckluvr@lycos.com

I laugh at H2's as they drive by. The comfort is far better then anything on the road. The accelleration is fine and with the options I chose I get eye's on it all day long. Bit rough riding but with the 22's on it it's my fault and I can live with it. Caddy forgot to add the bathtub.

Strength:

good hp

Weakness:

has a vibration in passing gear at 60 to 75 mph. the local dealer says it is characteristic of the escalade to do that, and they won't do anything about it. i have driven two others and they do the same thing. cadilac shoudn't put out a vibrater like that. if i wanted a vibrater i could get one for a lot less than 46000 dollars. lets start a problem for general motors.

very nice vehicle

Model Reviewed: Escalade EXT

Strength:

Unique, powerful, comfortable seating, smooth ride, good sound, great ride, lots of useable extras

Weakness:

Brakes poor, problems with transmission or drive train, clunks when changing down. Sound system not up to quality of original escalades, no power socket in bedliner area, cheap wood type imatation, digital readout from green led gauges etc to bright at night, headlamps should have been projector style.

After having an early escalade, we changed it for an Excursion as the original escalade wouldn't pull our boat. Having now purchased an EXT we keep comparing it to the original. The first escalades were much nicer in creature comforts and the sound sysyem was superior. Only real gripes about our new vehicle is poor brakes and nasty clunking shift downs which appears to be know to Cadillac, lets get that sorted Cadillac!

Power, gas mileage is dependant on your driving habits. I currently get 14.7 in the city., Obvious luxury, Sharp exterior appearence, vast standard options

Weakness:

I can't really think of any at this time.

My wife and I have test drove and inspected the 2003 Navigator, 2003 Sequoia Limited, and Expedition Eddie Bauer, and our conclusion was this. If a new large luxury SUV's is what you're looking for, then this is the Top of the line.

Might be a big gas consumer, but thats only because some of you lead foots out there never let go of the gas

This is the best SUV in the world. It lives up to the cadillac name with its luxery interior and comfortable seats. I have been looking for a SUV for about 6 months and when I went to test drive the Escalade I Thought it would be a waste of gas but its not that bad.

power,style,room,It turns heads.

Weakness:

Just the people who complain about noises and gas miles, rather than just looking about the positive points.

I belive this truck is one of the best in the market. A word of advice to those people who wrote a review compaining on the brake problems, Most of these problems I belive (being a master Auto technician) Is caused by driver err. riding brakes, driving with one foot on the brake and one on the gas, etc.Bad gas complaints are because you guys are lead foots. It is a V8,it uses gas
