Strength:

-great torque, and driveability. -Reacts great to nitrous. (i gain 80 whp on 75 shot. and 110 ft. lbs.) -Great reliability -Solid frame -20mpg city w/ the mods that i have.

Weakness:

-Weighs alot -Open diffrential -runs real hot (you need to get electric fans and a thermostat to cure this. With these mods you can get 2 to 3 more mpg.)

My truck has done me quite well. I havent had one problem yet. All you have to do is drive it properly and get all maintenance work done and you have no problems. I have a cold air intake, throttle body spacer, pullies,3inch drop front and rear, and im running a 75 shot of nitrous on this motor and no problems so far. Been running nitrous for about 2 years and it has no problems... Says something for the block and bottom end. I recommend never putting bosch platnium 4 plugs. Stay w/ r42lts spark plugs. They are colder than normal plugs but i saw a large gain in throttle responce with them, but i also changed to royal purple 10w30 performance oil. My truck runs better than ever. Trust me these trucks are mechanically solid and can take a beating. It can haul 4 people and run the 1/4 mile in 14.1 at 104 (i got the top speed limiter removed.)

4 wheel drive works great even in snow up to the hood. its still shiny, and its always started.

Weakness:

alot of maintenance, shotty build quality, expensive parts, crappy resale, and trade in value.

My chevrolet Blazer is nice looking, but that doesnt matter when its falling apart. i could go on for hours with a list of parts ive replaced, not to mention money spent. make sure you buy an extended warranty when you buy one. i bought my blazer with 72,000 on it, and now it has 108,000. i wish i read the reviews before i bought this truck!!!

Model Reviewed: Ford Escape Hybrid

Strength:

1) Great mpg for an SUV. 2) Very good front and back leg room. 3) Decent lumbar support, and power seat for driver. 4) Room for bikes, as well as all that stuff I get at Home Depot. 5) Hybrid: low emissions, good mpg,and cutting edge. Everyone likes it. Very few people have it, so it's 'cool'. 6) Smooth acceleration. Even my wife commented on it. 7) The INFO center: Lots of good diagnostic information. The "remaining miles" to fillup is accurate too. 8) Six-CD/radio player.

Weakness:

1) AC only works when gas engine runs, not battery power. You must switch to Max AC if you want it on all the time. 2) Same goes for the two Defrost modes. 3) Speedometer design: The needle is almost as wide as the spacing between the five mile increments. I don't know if I'm doing 66 or 69mph! 4) No console thermometer--so I don't know the outside temperature. (My last two cars had one) 5) Placing of inside dome light is a bit too far back for front passengers to reach easily. 6) The radio speakers are decent, but not the best.

I recently wrote in a second review of my 2004 Blazer how my wife refused to drive it, and how rising gas prices made me not want to buy it. AFter two months I can say: It looks good. It accelerates well, it handles well, it brakes well, and it's getting 30-31 mpg. I can state emphatically, I like to drive my new Ford Escape.

The 4.3L V6 Vortec 190hp engine.Passing is outstanding in this suv.

Weakness:

The transmission is so so,I have this problem well its not bad it just that the torque converter locks up and I have to tap tap the brake lightly to unlock it to get the power.I heard that this is normal in vehicles from GM of this year. And rear brakes stink.

It has been a good suv,I have only had to replace the water pucm and front brakes in my first year of ownership.I drove this Blazer to Maine,Nh and Georgia and never had one problem with it.The transmission is so so,I have this problem well its not bad it just that the torque converter locks up and I have to tap tap the brake lightly to unlock it to get the power.I heard that this is normal in vehicles from GM of this year.

Strength:

During the two years we owned the Blazer, here is what I liked: Great for long distance driving: 20mpg, comfortable seats, excellent lumbar support. Excellent, easy to engage 4WD. Excellent weight/cargo capacity. Great sound system. Nice instrumentation.

Weakness:

Here are the things my wife and I noted as weaknesses: Very heavy; slow acceleration; even the doors were heavy. Poor commuter mpg. Poor tires: We had problems with valve stems and wheel rim leaks, in addition to the flat tires that were caused by "something?" that we ran over. The battery ran down a numbe rof times. Once it was a bad alternator; other times we weren't sure what happened. Finally, my wife did not like the long length or the weight. She refused to drive it during the entire two years. That's a weakness that is hard to overcome.

Problem: Gas prices rising; wife won't drive the SUV. If you look back through these archives, you will see I wrote an inital review of the Blazer and gave it three stars. I re-read that review this evening, and still agree with what I wrote back then. Since that review I had driven the Blazer to Canada, NH, and VA. It was a great long-distance car. I especially loved the comfortable seats, and the security of 4WD during winter driving. On the other hand, it got 12mpg in commuter driving, and my wife refused to drive it. She is the exception to the Marketing that says women love SUVs. She also pointed out how we had a succession of tire problems: Two flats, a valve leak, and most recently a wheel rim leak. Finally, the rising price of gas just made me want to drive her car more, and she rightfully resisted. Something needed to be done. We still needed something to carry our skis, bikes, and "stuff", so we decided to look at a smaller SUV [one she would be willing to drive] and then to see if the Escape Hybrid might be worthwhile for us. So, the Blazer is gone after just two years. I liked it, but just not enough, and she did not like it at all. I will start a review of the Hybrid Escape in a few weeks.

Strength:

Plenty of power 4.3 v6, has locked in 4WD or automatic 4WD (very nice). Fantastic in heavy buffalo snow storms, very nice ride, great car to take on a trip, very comfortable, excellent heat and AC, Quiet at high speed inside, looks very nice.

Weakness:

Constant replacement wheel bearings and ball joints, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. I can't come up with anything else to say.

Don't ever buy a blazer without an extended warranty. It now has 85M miles. Since new, upper & lower ball joints (twice) wheel bearings (twice) 3 altinators, new battery, air pump, fuel pump and sending unit, idler arm, REAR MAIN SEAL(that was $1,600.00) water pump, power stearing pump, electrical problems, manifold gasket, and probably if I go out in the blazer's glove box I guarantee you I'll find another 6-7 items I am forgetting. This does not include regular maintenance such as brakes and rotors all around, new shocks, a complete tune up, just had that done a few monthe ago when they had to remove the engine for the rear main, made it a lot easier to do it then with the engine out. any of you who do your own tune ups as I USED to do know what I mean. Many other oil and fluid leaks, pinion seals, OK, OK, I'll stop. When you take into consideration the cost of the after market warranty $1,800.00 and all of the huge stack of work orders I'll bet it comes close to $10,000.00. Not bad for a four year old car ay! Its the warranty thats why I keep it. A very good warranty that includes all the times I had to rent a car etc etc. I still have 15M miles left on this warranty,I can't imagine owning this thing once it expires. I am very fussy with my cars. This blazer looks new. Not a scratch on it, with a shine as clear as a mirror. I know this sounds crazy but I still like this xxx suv. A definate love/hate relationship. Never ever in my life will I ever buy an suv with a chevy logo on it.The car looks so good when I tell people its a piece of junk they have a hard time beleaving me I tell everyone I know about blazers and trailblazers what piles of junk they are.I guess you can tell it really gets me mad. Some of you might be asking yourself why hasen't he gotten rid of it a long time ago? The repair shop is right next door to my place of employment. Its also where I purchased the warranty. I also know many of the mechanics for several years who did repairs on my last several cars. Not that big of an inconvenience, plus they have a set up with enterprise right next door to them. Kind of a sweet set up. My last car was a 1993 pontiac grand prix. drove it for seven years and only had a problem with the transmission that the guys fixed at that shop I told you about for $150.00. THAT'S IT !!!!!!!!!!!! Had to get rid of it due to my disability.

Overall it was a very good buy, I test drove a few Jeeps and liked the size of the Blazer better. Moon roofs nice. I do a lot of Outdoor sports, holds a kayak well, lots of gear too. 4 wheel drives worth it.

Ride is worse than a full size Bronco Electrical system is unreliable, mystery clicking underdash, airbag light goes on and off at will, and service engine light does the same

I have had this vehicle for less than two months and have only had a little over a thousand satifactory miles of driving. I purchased it with 87,000 miles on it. The vehicle was in above average condition and drove well during the test drive. Since I have had the vehicle the fuel pump has gone out of it and there is an unidentifiable clicking under the dash. My mechanic still cannot decide what it is. My 1979 ford bronco rides better than this and is more dependable. At least I can work on the ford, chevy has created an SUV that is not friendly to those who really want a vehicle that they can drive and work on. I am waiting for the title to arrive so I can sell this and place the money into my older truck. I have never owned a vehicle, even used, that began to malfunction so quickly after purchase.

Strength:

Nice acceleration. Good passing performance. Ample cargo space. Great turning radius and easy handling.

Weakness:

Unreliable build. Spotty assemble. That hump in the floor on the front passenger side takes away from their comfort.

Worst vehicle purchase I have ever made. Within 35k miles, I've had: both front wheel assembly hub replaced, water pump replaced, ball bearing problems, power window track replaced, panel switch replaced twice, engine valve lifter malfunction, complete engine rebuilt, malfunctioning gauges (particulary the gas gauge), CV joint problems, steering assembly problems and others that are just too numerous to list. My big mistake in researching this vehicle was not talking to a mechanic prior to purchase. I did speak to one shortly after purchase and about 95% of the problems he said I would have, I did have including having the engine rebuilt (at less than 35k miles). I have a 1995 Nissan Altima that gives me less problems in over 112k miles I have driven it, versus the 46k miles I have driven this Blazer.
