Tahoe LT 4X4
Strength:
Boldy takes up its own lane. Not too many drivers are willing to cut you off in this truck. Very comfortable for road trips, and easy to maneuver in the city. Huge cargo space.
Weakness:
Weakness or wickedness, you decide. 11 miles per gallon -Highway AND City miles, can you imagine? I drive 40 miles to work each way, and fill up my tank every fourth day. At $1.59 a gallon, and a 30 gallon tank, that's $47.70 about 6 times a month totalling $286.20. This is no rocket science people. If I could have conceived these numbers prior to my brilliant transition into this road hog, I would have come to my damn senses and tacked that $286.20 a month I spend on gas into a new BMW M5!!! Clearly I would have come out ahead. If not, then surley the $600 I spent on brakes and rotors last month would have pushed me over. A recent cover up exposed at the GM camp has revealed that Fred Flintstone has been heading up the Brake Division. It all makes sense now, considering my sneakers have no tread, a direct result from having to drag them across the concrete in order to park this corpulent gas guzzler at a red light. In summary, it was the worst of times, it was the worst of times. Similar Products Used: Toilet and garbage disposal. Weakness:
Good gosh. This car is such a hunk of junk, that it should be taken off the market, and compacted in a lot. I have never driven anything this bad in my life. When i left the dealership with this car, i came to the first light. I tried to stop, but due to the fact that there were no brakes, i crashed into the back of a semi at about 55 mph. Now, I have one foot. I tried to sue chevy but it didn't work. Then, after my foot was amputated and i learned to walk with a fake one, i went to chevy to get a refund so i could resume my life. However, that was denied. Instead they offered to give me a new Tahoe. I was somewhat satisfied with this car until three weeks into it when accelerating on teh highway, i heard a loud noise and a screech. Then i checked the gauges only to see that i was overheating. I pulled to the side of the road, hopped out of the car, and i was hobbling away just in time for teh car to explode. Enough said no stars Similar Products Used: a deathtrap |

Love the new body style. Roomy and comfortable enough to take long road trips with out family of 5. Love the 3rd row seat and "lever" controls. Haven't had the 3rd row seat out yet because the easy handling of the 3rd row seat does not make it a necessity to remove. Recommend bigger tires. We were unable to "custom order" bigger tires when we were ordering it because we opted to go with the LS version because we couldn't have the full bench seat in front in leather. Therefore we ordered the cloth front bench seat with the "standard tires" vs. the LT leather seat with the bigger tires. So much for being able to "custom order" a vehicle that costs us 1/2 our monthly mortage payment.
Weakness:
Gas mileage and limitations of "custom ordering". Our 16yr old son and his friends are always begging to take it cruising, especially during our spring break vacation in Florida. No complaints thus far. I was initially hesitant to purchase the 2000 model due to the change in body styles etc. I was going to wait another year and see how the reviews were. Fortunatley for us, we gambled and ordered it January 2000 and have had it in for only routine oil changes. I have friends whom own many models of SUVs and I have to admit ours drives and rides the best. The bigger tires we have on it makes it a stand out in the crowd, the only downfall (on any SUV) is the gas mileage and inability to wash the top without use of a ladder or automated car wash! I'm happy I purchased the Tahoe and not the Durango after reading the consumer reviews on it. If you've got some time to kill, pull up the reviews of the Durango for a good laugh or two. Strength:
It is a nice boxer truck that doesn't lumber all over the road like my Expedition did. The power is great and I have not had any problems in winter time getting around.
Weakness:
Something major with the electrical is ruining this perfect vehicle. I tracked the windshield wipers problem down to a loose connection however there are several other things that are still wrong. The computer records a tranny slip and sends extra pressure to shift gears causing the whole back end of the vehicl to shake. I am on my second alternator, my gas gauge hops up and down and there is a leak near my rear fender well. I would most definately buy another Tahoe. Never another 1997 one though. I believe there is just one thing wrong and I am not willing to put the expense into finding it. My truck is an LT with leather and looks classy and very stout at the same time. I rate this truck a 3 not because it is a Tahoe but because it is a 97. I feel this was just a poor year. Similar Products Used: I had a 97 Blazer that had the same feul gauge problem and I traded it in for a 99 Expedition which I liked but felt it was very wobbly so I got rid of it for the 97 Tahoe. |

Tahoe LS
Strength:
This truck is the best truck that I have ever drove. It has excellent towing power, it has the torque and speed that I want, and it is very roomy. The push button 4x4 is excellent. The truck just crawls through the snow.
Weakness:
The problems that I have with the truck are that it has a light back end, which causes fish-tailing in the winter and that it is a gas guzzler. Either than that, it is excellent. The 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe LS that I bought was definitely worth the money. I have no problems at all with the truck. I just wish that it was better on gas. Overall, very good truck. Similar Products Used: I had a 1990 Suburban once, it was an excellent truck. It had a deisel engine, had 4x4, third seat...very clean and comfortable truck. It obviously does not have the power of the Tahoe, but it was good enough. Definitely had the towing power. |

Strength:
Power, 4 wheel drive system, comfort and space.
Weakness:
Brakes are the weakest point on this vehicle. I cured this by converting the rear drums to disc and upgrading the front discs to higher quality discs. I bought this vehicle from a lease return with 30,000 miles. I now have 65,000 miles on it. Have converted the air intake system, exhaust system, and the brake system. These made a significant increase to HP and braking. The wife calls this my caddy and I really love it. It gets abused terribly when I go hunting or fishing as I always look for the most inaccessible areas. It has never failed to get me back, that is after I bought a high-lift jack. I now get 17-18 mpg in the City and 22-24 mpg n the highway. The changes I made sure help in thse days of high gas prices. Strength:
Hnadles well, off road. Climbs like a mountain goat. A go anywhere do anything truck. Tight turning radius from a short wheel base great for tight trails. Lots of power at take off and plenty in reserve for passing. 5.7 litre engine delivers 200 horse power. Custom Rancho suspension package absorbs everything on and off road.
Weakness:
Brakes aren't as tight as I'm used to. Because of the shorter wheelbase, highway ride quality leaves room for improvement. Gas mileage is 13 city and 15 mpg highway. I've only had this truck for a week and I am completely hooked. Lots of power in a small frame. An absolute blast for playing in the mud the day after a good rain. Lots of truck in a little package. 4WD is butter smooth and has a lot of torque. Height is adjustable to 3 inches above the stock setting. Plenty of room for adding upgrades. A lift kit and bigger tires is in store for my Tahoe at the end of the year. If you're planning on taking it on long trips, the 4 door might be a consideration. Similar Products Used: None |

Most Tahoes come with the third seat option. I do not need the third row seats. Outstanding Vehicle. This is my third Tahoe and is a great improvment from the pre 2000 models. I looked and researched similar vehicles but they didn't come close to the quality of the Tahoe. Similar Products Used: Researched Ford Explorer/ Expedition- Poor quality for $$$ |
