Strength:

Lots of room, especially for the driver. The seats fold down in the rear so that you can sleep in the back. Large gas tank allows for long distances without refueling. No mechanical problems yet, except the brakes.

Weakness:

The brakes have already needed replacing, including master cylinder, which cost 600 to fix. And still, they sound horrible and are jumpy.

Considered either a new Explorer or used Tahoe, went with the Tahoe because it was so much of a better value and got so much more (loaded) for the money. Liked the interior slightly better than the Expedition.

Strength:

Power, inside room, ride, and handling. There have been many improvements over the earlier version of the Tahoe. The best is the 3rd bench seat. We have three kids, and now they each have a place to sit next to a window. For long trips we remove half of the 3rd bench seat for cargo and they still have plenty of room. These seats are well designed; easy to remove and put back in.

We have used the vehicle with much success in both temperature extremes. We spent 4 days in July in Las Vegas at 110+. Each area of the vehicle was kept cool by both the front and rear A/C. At the other extreme, it kept us warm and comfortable while on a ski trip when temperatures dropped to –11.

Handles well in the snow and on dirt roads. I have not done any serious 4 wheeling in it. I’ve saved my 94 4Runner for that.

Weakness:

Gas mileage. 3rd row of seats has no foot-well like the Suburban has. As a result, adults will not be comfortable on a long ride.

I was nervous purchasing this vehicle since I have never purchased an American built vehicle before. So far, the Tahoe has changed my mind about American vehicles. It has been a wonderful vehicle to own and drive. Other than oil changes, it has only been back to the dealer once and only for very minor things.

They are expensive, but beginning to think they are worth it!

Strength:

Power, excellent for towing, front seat room.

Weakness:

Reliability. Vehicle has 54K miles. Alternator, battery and wiper motor (recall) were replaced under before 36K warranty expired. Since warranty expired I have replaced the alternator (again), starter, battery twice, fuel regulator, A/C compressor, in-dash A/C control unit and diode for daytime running lights. I asked Chevy for financial assistance with the A/C and they said no.

When it is working it is great. This experience has soured me on Chevy and GM products. I will never buy another one.

Interior, stereo, comfort.

Weakness:

Brakes, Brakes, Brakes ..... in for service at 2K miles and 5 visits up to 21K miles. Chevy had no desire to cover the warn front pads at 21K and the replaced rotars and rear shoes at 28K. I will replace the rear drums soon at 40K. This is the cost of owning a Chevy, have no doughts about it. I will have up to $1K into brakes before this vehicle reaches 50K! Sorry case of customer satisfaction. Exhaust gasket replaced within 20K. No longer buying GM products!

I own a 1999 Tahoe LT.
Moderately happy with the vehicle. My wife loves it. I like the 2 and 4 wheel drive options/switches (2H,4AUTO, 4H and 4L). This vehicle has 38K miles and gets 18 mpg on the hi-way and 14 mpg in town..

Strength:

Power and reliability. She starts every time without hesitation and drives like a dream

Weakness:

Fuel consumption could be better

First off, when the Tahoe comes off of the Assembly line it should come with front and rear brush guards. These additions have added greatly to my Tahoe's appearance and also give it that go anywhere do anything look. The 265/75/R16 (Goodyear Wrangler TDs) are a perfect Tire for this truck as they provide adequate traction in an off road situation and are quiet on city streets. Other than slight things like fuel consumption and the top heaviness of the Tahoe I do not have any complaints about this SUV. Chevy as correct when they said "Like A Rock", because this vehicle is just as tough as one.

1988 Chevy S-10 Blazer The Tahoe is way more powerful but hell, that is to be expected from a vehicle which has a V8 power plant as compared to the V6 which was in the Blazer. The Blazer did have better handling in tight situations and cornered better, but to me it was worth the sacrifice for the power.

GREAT FEEL...It rides really great. Comfortable, quiet, and roomy. Nice power for an SUV of its size.

Weakness:

The 96 doesn't have rear air...the brakes are too soft...the intake manifold gasket went bad (common on 96 Tahoe)

I LOVE IT!!!! I wouldn't trade it for anything (except maybe a brand new one). It is the perfect vehicle. Not too big, not too small. It handles well, it rides well, it runs well, and most of all-- it looks good.

This is the third Chev Tahoe I've owned in the past 4 years (98,99 and 2001. By far the best one yet. Great power, ride and space. The seating is excellent with power lumbar support and heat. Chev incorperated the trailer wiring harness so hooking up the trailer brake controller was a snap.

Weakness:

Can't say enough about this SUV. Try one and you will not be disappointed.

I used to own a Land Rover Discovery 98 model, I did not have anything but only problems from electrical to cosmetic. I'm enjoying and loving my new Tahoe. I will recommended to any one at any time. GREAT VALUE.
