Strength:
horsepower, ride, interior room, looks
Weakness:
ongoing repair costs Have owned my 1996 Tahoe for two years and have put approx. 29,000 miles on it (73,000 total). In that time I have had the battery, u joints, front brakes, fuel pump and a/c replaced (around $2,500 total repair costs). I owned a 87 Nissan Pathfinder for 7 years prior to the Chevy and never had any problems with it until about 180,000 miles (I put 224,000 total miles on it). This truck only adds fuel to the fire in the foriegn vs. domestic car debate. I love the look and drive of the truck, but could have bought brand new with all of the extra out of pocket cash I've put out. Based on the problems with this truck, I will probably never buy another Chevy. Similar Products Used: Nissan Pathfinder - More room and power than the Nissan, but way down on the quality scale. |

torque can get out of control sometimes I bought it at 55,000 miles from a mechanic. He had put $1000 alluminum rims & chrome nerf bars on it plus he dualed it out and installed a flowmaster system on it, it also had a towing package on it. It is absolutely beautiful and I can't complain about the breaks being bad because i have racing rotars on it and it stops on a dime. This car is my baby and i love her Similar Products Used: Explorer |

Solid (heavy), good power
Weakness:
gas mileage, maintenance costs, poor visibility through rear view mirror, big blind spot on side mirrors. Factor the extended warranty into the purchase price. Good to drive, poor gas mileage, high maintenance costs. First service at main dealer six weeks after purchasing (60,000 miles) cost $2,000!!! (Alternator, A/C pump etc). Didn't get the extended warranty, should have. Similar Products Used: None |

Its thirsty I bought the 2 door Tahoe Sport completely stock. After a few days I put a 4 inch Rancho suspension lift on it and 34 inch Super Swamper SSR tires. It was a tank to begin with, and it turned heads wherever I went, now people cant take their eyes off of it. The engine (when it was stock) was more than powerful enough, the 5.7L 255HP V8 monster could handle anything without a problem and has had no problems whatsoever, short of a bad starter, but something has to go wrong after 5 years of life, right? The interior is roomy enough, but not so big that you get lost. Everything is placed perfectly from both the driver and the passenger, except the electronic seat controls on the driver seat. I love my Tahoe more than anything else, theres no other SUV I would ever take over my Tahoe (except a 2002 Escalade - haha) Similar Products Used: Never used anything else, dont want to either |

Performance, ride, comfort, features, i never thought i would like the captains chair arms but, suprise i love it. Side air bags, abs, traction control, the heated seats are great on a pulled lower back i even use them in florida. Ac much better than that of my z28. Fold down 2nd row seating and remove 3rd row POOF a van {almost}. Tow/hual option, and traction control are nice features. And i have been looking @ suv's for my wife not much else to compare to.
Weakness:
There is a bit of wind noise driver side for such an expensive vehicle email me if you have a solution on this{heykguy@aol.com} good ammo for dealership service. Gas mileage well it is a beast though. Drift @ highway speeds on windy days but, mine did come a little more elevated than a suburban. Interior still a little too chevy type for price. Which speaking of price you would think they did not want it to leave the lot. They wanted $39,800 for mine. Finally, the stereo i own a car stereo shop and will be adding video and audio however when i pull the radio i will lose features, so i will have to add a T harness and keep factory radio. I had always wanted a suburban or tahoe. And, now that i have one i love it. The LT model has the 5300 v8 motor, all leather and every option known to a chevy except maybe the air conditioned seats of the navigator. Oh well never wanted a ford. The drive is a little truck like but, i like the feel and would of kept my sportscar if that was what i wanted. The vehicle did surpass my expectations though. All i have to do is look at the vehicle and i smile. I would highly reccommend this vehicle love the Tahoe.... Similar Products Used: drove the expedition it was cheesy, the navigator nice but, wow i thought they did'nt want to sell it, denali same, escalade you know, suburban would not fit in garage along w/ excurrsion which was a pretty cool truck, hard for a chevy guy to say. Smaller suv's don't rate, unless you go offshore. And, then just read the reviews on all them w/ run on sentnences like mine. |

TRANSMISSION, TRANSMISSION AND TRANSMISSION!!! Can't stress this enough! If you own a 96 or 97 Tahoe, I would be paying close attention to this. I have now owned this vehicle for 15 months and bought it with 57,000 miles on it. It was exactly what I wanted. I am a tall person and wanted something to fit me. And I didn't care that it got 17mpg on the highway or 13mpg in the city, it was what I wanted to drive. So, it is silly to complain about something you have agreed to live with. I drive the highways alot in my job and put 30,000 miles on it in the first 12 months. Couldn't have been happier! You are always told that highway miles won't hurt a vehicle, right??? In the last 3 months, I have spent close to $3,000 dollars keeping this thing running. $500 for an intake manifold gasket and $2,500 for a transmission and a U-Haul to bring it 400 miles home!!! Don't get me wrong, I really like my Tahoe, but the fact that GM can't build a transmission that will last over 100,000 miles is rediculous. I will have to seriously consider whether I will be willing to spend the money for another Tahoe. I really thought that with regular maintenance and care my Tahoe would last 200,000 miles easy! It is a tough squeeze get'in 3 "full-size" girls in the back. This vehicle is incredible! I love it. I love it. It saved my life. I was in a serious head on crash with a lady driving a blazer. I walked away fine. Last I heard she was still piss'in in a plastic bag. Lots a room for chubbies. I love to chase the chubbies! I love it. I love it. Similar Products Used: Metro bus. |

None PLEASE, for the love of God, do not buy this car. My pet beaver and I were riding down the interstate a few months ago, and my beaver was hanging her head out of the window. All of a sudden, the passenger window started rolling up and did not quit until it had decapitated my beaver. The torso and the tail of the beaver then hit me in the head, causing me to swerve and hit an eighteen wheeler, leaving me paraplegic. I write this from my bed, pleading with you, do not buy this car. Similar Products Used: None |

Gas mileage This has been a great running truck. In the heat of summer, the A/C has worked great except for when the air blower motor went. It was promptly replaced by Chevy and was under warranty. Brake pads went at 22K. Otherwise, no other maintenance problems. However, cosmetics are a problem. The plastic light coverings on the doors have broken off. The rear seat ash tray covers have also broken off. The dashboard lights have begun to fail. Similar Products Used: 1996 Chevy Blazer |

Size, power, ride, room, handling, electronic setting for the 4WD system which allows AWD in addition to 4WD and 4WD Lo, liftgate instead of the old tailgate or split doors.
Weakness:
Fuel economy, blind spots, blindspots due to design of outside mirrors, 3rd seat design. I moved up to the Tahoe after 6 years with a Grand Cherokee and really am very pleased. It rides and handles much better both on and off-road. I'm not thrilled with the fuel economy, it is worse than the Jeep but then again I didn't expect great economy. The design of the 3rd seat allows it to be removed but it can only be partially folded out of the way if left in. You lose a lot of cargo area when you do this. In 17000 miles I have had absolutely no problems. The only maintenance has been regular oil changes and tire rotations. Finally I love the size, I think it intimidates people and I find get a lot fewer people cutting in front of me and most give me a lot more room. Similar Products Used: Jeep Grand Cherokee |
