Strength:

Fun to drive, handleing, comfort, color, inside room, no problems with the vehicle. And for all the cup holder fans, there are six holders.

Weakness:

Turning radius, wish I had gotten the sunroof.

I read many reviews where people rate their cars right after they purchased them. Of course, being new, they are all warm and fuzzy inside about their little sweetie in the driveway. I decided to wait a year to see if we still worshiped the little red angel we brought to our house last February. My wife and I bought the Touring model PT off the showroom floor. In my mid sixties, I have purchased many cars in my time. This is the FIRST car I have bought that I NEVER had to take back to the dealer for something that needed repaired or replaced. After over 16,000 miles It has been 100% trouble free. I don't find the car underpowered at all and it is not a turbo. I drive 70 mph on my work commute each day and pass anything in my path. I read reviews of plastic interior as being a problem. Why?EVERY car made today has LOTS of plastic and I have no problem with it. My wife and I suffer from back problems and after several trips, find the PT offers great comfort. The PT does have road noise as does the other smaller cars and SUV's I've driven like the RAV 4, Honda CRV, Jeep Liberty, Plymouth Champ, Morris Mini 850. I don't know of a small vehicle that doesn't have road noise. The best gas mileage I've gotten is 29 MPG. There is plenty of leg room between the rear seats and the front seat and there are many ways to configure the seats for loading large items. I enjoy the sound system of the tape and CD players. Consumer Reports 2003 & 2004 New Car Buying Guide and Consumer Reports New car Preview 2004 rates the Pt as a Recommended buy and Consumer Guides, Buying Guide 2004 rate it as, Best Buy. When all is said and done I can say that I enjoy this car, in its styling, the color of Red, its handling, the solid sound when you close the doors and the hood is heavy and solid, not flimsy like our GMC Jimmy, its snappy get up and go and everything works the way it's supposed to. The car is fun to drive. So, you won't find a list of moans and groans on this review. We are happy with our red angel of last year and do I have any complaints? Sure I do. NO CAR IS PERFECT. You can view them below. Would I concider buying another PT Cruiser? Yes!

POWER! MILEAGE SUCKS CHEAP INTERIOR ELECTRICAL

I went on a business trip to Texas for one month and rented a PT Cruiser "upgrade". Well, I did look good in it the whole month, but that was it. And believe me, since it's a rental, I did a REAL test drive. Car has NO power, gas GUZZLER, cheap plastic interior (for a supposed high end model), front end scrapes everywhere - I don't even know why the car/van--whateva u call it--is so low since it wouldn't even generate enough power to maximize potential of the lower "sporty" stance. Oh yeah, the power window switch went out 3 days before I turned it in. I love my Hondas.

Strength:

You have got to be kidding. If you think it looks good, then that's a strength. Other than that, pure overpriced junk.

Weakness:

Hah.

Here's the scoop. The PT Cruiser is junk. When the PTC came out and there was a huge demand, I figured they must be good cars. After two years of seeing them drive by, I went with my girl friend to test drive them. First impression: Good looking car. I thought they were a bit faddish, and would look ridiculously out of date as soon as they were pulled from production, which by the way won't be long now, but overall, good looking car and somewhat cool. So I go to the dealer and the first thing I note is that every vehicle on the lot is priced extremely close to the invoice cost, which I thought, at the time, was kind of weird given how popular I thought the car was. More on that later. So we test drive one. My girlfriend didn't drive stick, so we test drove an automatic. OH MY GAWD, I thought, I can't believe anybody actually spends 16-30 grand on this crap. Really folks, you have got to be kidding me. There can only be one reason that anybody buys this car: They think they look cool. It's like the poor man's corvette. All I can say is, they are brilliant at chrysler for coming up with a design that people will think is cool, putting it on a piece of junk car frame, and then charging 8-12k more than the car is worth. First of all, the inside of the car seemed cheap: not what you'd expect from a car with an 18-20k sticker. The automatic transmission was a joke. The car was VERY underpowered. Look, I drove a geo Metro and old VW beetles, so I know what UNDERPOWERED is, and this car, FOR 20K@!!!! was very underpowered. So after I drive it for about 20 seconds, I laugh and tell the girlfriend, you'd be an idiot to buy this car. So she asks me to test drive a stick. So I do. OH MY GAWD. You have got to be kidding me. The car felt like a big go cart, and I'm not kidding. NO pickup whatsoever. I practically had to smoke the clutch to get the car to move with any kind of pace. I was STUNNED that anybody bought this car. Add to the incredibly poorly designed engine/tranny combination that the car handled like a tank, had an unbelievably large turning radius, was REALLY difficult to see out of (huge blind spot, and wandered when I just tried to keep in a straight line, and I thought that people who buy this car have gotta have a screw loose, like the steering system. Anyway, how does the story end? The reason that the cars on the lot were so cheap is because no one was buying them. All of the idiot baby boomers, mid life crisis fools, and 17 year olds with no experience had run out and bought this car in the first two years, and the rest of the folks, the rational people who want more than a snazzy look for 20k$, weren't impressed with the turbo and the look, and weren't buying the junk anymore. Sales of this car dropped 25% in 03. No kidding! I can't believe they sold any of them. SO THE MORAL OF THE STORY. Do not buy this car if you care AT ALL about value. you can spend 20k on this junk and get an underpowered, poorly made car that ignorant people will think looks "cool," or for 2 or 3 grand more you can buy a beautiful, dependable, powerful, well built Honda accord with built in navigation system and loaded with all the options. Seriously, test drive this PT crap by driving over to a honda dealer. Get out at the honda dealer, drive the accord around for about 15 minutes, and then get back in the pt cruiser and go drop it off at the chrysler dealer. If you still want it, you truly deserve to be overcharged the 5-10 grand that you'll pay for the PT crapper. If you buy this car for any reason other than you love the way it looks, you're a fool. Of course, if you buy this car because of the way it looks, you may be a fool, or you may just be a person who is willing to get very low value in a car because you like the way it looks. You might want to try a Jaguar next when you get some more money. Or maybe a corvette. Both look good, and have a reputation to be engineering refuse. Really, look at the cost of these things used and two years old. I gotta believe you can get one for dirt cheap. The price of the new ones dropped in the third year of production. What does that tell you? God watches out for fools, drunks, and PTC buyers.

Strength:

* cute looking car, styling a real masterpiece * functionality inside very good * good handling capabilities * practical seats that can be folded according to one's needs * seating position relatively high, good view of road * very comfortable to drive, sit in for long trips

Weakness:

- petrol tank cap somewhat difficult to open/close sometimes - hand brake position a bit awkward, should be closer to driver - rear part of car gets very dirty in rainy/snowy weather

My wife and I bought a brand new Chrysler PT Cruiser 2003 model (Touring) in July, 2003. We've had the car now for about 4,5 months and driven about 6000 km:s with it and are just as happy with it as we were on the day we bought it. You've all heard this before: * cute looking car, styling a real masterpiece * functionality inside very good * good handling capabilities * practical seats that can be folded according to one's needs * seating position relatively high, good view of road * very comfortable to drive, sit in for long trips There are also things I'm not so happy about, but they are minor things like: - petrol tank cap somewhat difficult to open/close sometimes - hand brake position a bit awkward, should be closer to driver - rear part of car gets very dirty in rainy/snowy weather One thing that was a pleasant surprise for me was the petrol/km rate. After having read a lot of critical comments on different web pages I decided to test it out myself. On a 1000 km return trip to another part of Finland I received the following results (speed 80-100 km/hr, no AC on, winter tyres on): * petrol consumption, pure motorway driving: 7 l/100 km * petrol consumption: half motorway/half town: 9,2 l/100 km It's also been interesting to see how different the pro:s and con:s can be in different countries. I've noticed that in the USA many people seem to get annoyed by things that don't have much importance over here, for instance: * the window up/down switches are OK to me (I use them maybe 2 times a year) * the motor noise, we can legally drive 80/100/120 km per hour on our roads, so there's no motor noise to speak of, in fact I've never driven this silent a car before) * acceleration is fast enough for me, with a 2.0 l engine and manual gearbox (why would anyone want a car with automatic gears, beats me?) My wife, who maybe was even more enthusiastic about the car than I was when we actually bought it lists things she likes as follows * the colour (metallic red), styling, interior design (e.g. hand rest) Whenever I pick her up from work she always seems to get in a good mood when she lays her eyes on the car (so the "wow" factor still seems to work for her!). The Bottom Line People are different and therefore there are so many car makes and models to choose from. Eventually everyone should find a car that fulfills their needs and wishes. We chose a car that looked harmoniuos, had a "soul" inside, has been just as practical and useful as we expected. Congratulations, Chrysler, you have two satisfied customers in us!

Heck, the car is all that I thought it would be!

Had the "Hots" for the car ever since it came out. However, couldn't stand paying the initial premium. Found a used base model (stick shift) with 19,000 miles in April 2003. The car now has 29,000 and is wonderful. The often heard complant about lack of power doesn't apply to the manual trans. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't snap your neck back like my Saab 9000 turbo did but then how long can you continue to do that? Gas mileage, which is also a oft heard complaint, is good but not great. I average 26 mpg with a combination of driving. When I've taken it on a long trip ( over 200 miles straight) I've gotten over 30 mpg. Fit and finish is good and the car is all that I expected - heck it ain't no porche! Ride is good and the interior space and versatility is fantastic. All and all, I love the car and as time goes on am finding it harder and harder to consider switching to a more traditional type of car.

Weakness:

Lousy OEM tires and brakes...replaced and really noisey at start-up. Lots of road noise with OEM tires. Clearcoat is weak. Terrible..TERRIBLE turning radius. Smells bad when you open up the car until you do not notice it, bad odor from the ventilation system. LOUSY residual value...they can not give them away, nor can I...hehe Driver's seat cushion loosing form...I am NOT THAT HEAVY, 190lbs. tranny feels like it is failing service at dealers way too much $$$$ not a 'driver's car'

Overall, average. Over three years now and has been reliable....but Chrysler is cheap. Crappy goodyears would let fingernail shaving pierce them, two tires rendered useless before their time. Only lasted 35K miles. Red paint is showing many swirls and scratches and looks quite old...way more than my 11 year-old Passat. This is after I WAS FORCED by the Arrogant dealer to purchase the MASTERSHIELD PROTECTION...what a crock! They put the MAstershield Paint Protection on after I had asked not to and then gave me the bill for $1100. If I didn't want it, I could wait for the next one, possibly 2-3 months) Remember, this car had a long wait list and sold at a premium...well I was dumb not to wait. My buyout right now is $6K MORE than they sell for on the lots. Talk about depreciation! I find the back seats really flat and upright and do not hold you...you sit on them rather than in them, same with the front. Miscellaneous little things broke and were replaced. Dealer charges WAY too much for their labour. Auto is shifting hard right now, we'll see if the 5y/115K powertrain warranty lives up to it if need be. I do not get too bent outta shape about car problems...all have them and there are worst things in life...this ca is ....average...

Weakness:

Wide-turning ratio. Just stay out of tight spaces and you'll do fine.

SO far I love it! Lots of room and loaded with options. Gas mileage okay for me, I only drive 6-10 miles daily on average. Family loves to go for drives when I let them in. Got no complaints and hopefully won't have any soon. I saw it's a decent car from DCX. Had a Stratus for 2 months, hated it! Usually I drive foreign cars (VOLVO) but I don't have any regrets with this one.

We all know about the gas mileage, a strange clicking noise when the sunroof is popped up after it rains.

I've had the car for 10 months and I LOVE it ! I'm surprised at some of the reviews stating that the PT is underpowered. Didn't you test drive it before you bought it ? There are a few things you can do to open up the power without voiding the warranty. The only problems I've had was the ac compressor switch broke at 10,000 miles and I think I need new front brakes now at 15,000 miles. Hopefully I'll continue to have good luck with this car.

Strength:

Cute car... Looked good parked!

Weakness:

Totally unreliable for use as transportation.

This car is a lemon. It has been plagued with problems since day 1. First was a problem with tires that would "move" (rotate) on the chrome rims, causing balance problems. Then mysterious sour odors seemed to come from the vent system. There were suspension clunks and noises. The power windows screached and groaned when operated. The instrument panel was recalled and a computer chip had to be "re-flashed." At 8,000 miles a tire exploded and completely blew off the rim at 60MPH nearly causing a catastrophic accident in heavy urban traffic. The fuel pump had a recall, requiring maintenance. One of the rear break drums began to rust and deteriorate as if it had been dipped in acid. But the most irritating and frustrating problem (perhaps aside from the sudden, unwarranted tire explosion) was this car's habit of having a total battery failure every few months. During 25 months of ownership, the battery suddenly, without warning, completely failed as with a crowbar short stranding my wife and requiring replacement three times. The first time was at 2100 miles and six months ownership. The second failure occurred at 7400 miles. The third failure was at 13,300 miles, requiring a 4th battery to be installed. and with each failure, the dealership would only replace the battery with a new one, and explain to me that this was "normal." Between September of 2001 and September 29, 2003 the car had 4 batteries installed...and each time one failed, the dealer claimed the electrical system checked good, and that such failures were within normal operational expectancies. Upon installation of the car's 4th battery (including the original one) and with a total of 25 months ownership and 13,371 miles, and with the dealer's refusal to fix the CAUSE of repeated battery failures...I took the car to a Honda dealership and traded it for a Honda CRV.

Similar Products Used:

I have owned over 30 cars in my life, and this was the worst one I ever owned. The dealership was by far, the most arrogant, blatantly "in-your-face" lying and deceitful one I ever dealt with.
