Love roominess. Fun to drive. Very good pick-up from 4 cyclinder. My husband's s10 is a pouch compared to my Cruiser
Weakness:
Chrysler needs to get into 21 Century.Needs driving lights that come on when vehicle is started. Back view is somewhat obstructed. Could use better gas mileage. I have 1500 miles & think I'm going to need brakes soon..... Love my cruiser.....very little problems. Don't get a flat or you won't be able to put spare back under unit. Assembly bolt needs recalled. My dealer roached 3 off new units trying to replace mine. Love the location of power window controls--pets have "hung" themselves in past vehicles. Nice looking, inside cabin allows seats to be folded down for hauling cargo.
Weakness:
Have had to replace the rack and hubs at 26,000 miles ($1,100). Fire hazard with fuel line next to AC pressure fitting in some vehicles. The PT is cute and has a lot of admirers for its looks, including myself. However, I would get rid of it in a flash if I could. |

Cool Looks, Good ride, Good handleing, plenty of room for around town chores. No squeeks, rattles, wind noise problems. This is a seriously cool vehical!
Weakness:
Milage could probably be better, I average 20-21 around town. 25-30 on the road. I cruise at 80. Coolest Car on the Road. Great Handleing, nice ride for a short wheelbase vehical. Plenty of power with the 5-Speed manual, clutch has best feel of any stick I've ever owned. Hear that 4-speed Automatic is a slug but what do I care. You can light up the tires in 1st and 2nd with the 5-speed. Car takes a set in a curve and holds it, no wallowing. Battery failed at @ 15,000 mile and Power steering pump started to howl at 22,000. Both replaced under warranty. I do my own oil & filters plus front brake pads. Easy to work on. Coating on wheels stained by brake dust, just like every other disc brake equiped car I've owned. Plenty of room for 4 loads of room for weekend chores with seats folded. I love this car and would get another in a NY minute. BUY THE 5-SPEED STICK. If you can't drive a stick-LEARN! The clutch makes it a pleasure to drive. This is a small car / truck. Don't expect it to ride, perform or handle like a big car. |

Strength:
Practical Cool car to drive and be seen in Sufficient power Large sunroof Hatch opens high, you can stand underneath it and have picnic on the table.
Weakness:
Seats could get lower Still have to discover more weaknesses I was on the market for a station wagon. I've been driving Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable Wagons for last couple of years. They are great cars, except the transmissions and engine problems after 200,000 km. I wasn't too keen on getting another Ford product. I am in computer business and I require a practical car to carry occasional boxes. Minivan/SUV was out of a question due to high fuel consumption. I didn't consider PT Cruiser at first, because it's a small car, smaller than Neon. However, I checked out Chrysler.ca and saw the 26 seat variations, and I had to see it for myself. I checked the car out at a dealership. The retro styling looked weird at first, but after a while I got to like the look. Few days later I bought the car. Here is my observation so far. I read the other reviews on this web site as well all the reviews in all internet magazines I could find in all countries. Most magazines claim that the PT Cruiser is underpowered. I disagree. I loaded the PT Cruiser with Monitors, and a passenger, and the acceleration is adequate. The speed gage is up to 240 km/h, and acceleration to 60 km/h is good. Let's be realistic, how many people need to burn tires and accelerate to 100 km/h during normal traffic conditions? Reviewers wrote that the PT Cruiser lacks power in lower RPMs. I disagree. If you accelerate gently the car picks up nicely. If you gun it, there is a bit lag, realistically we are talking 2-3 seconds. Handling. The PT Cruiser handles well, the steering is very responsive. My PT has 16" 205s low profile Good Year tires and they are okay. I didnt detect any tire noise. Blind spots. There are blind spots where the pillars are. But if you adjust your mirror properly than you will be ok. Ride. The seats are higher than in a car, ie Fords. I have the power adjust seat, and have it on the lowest position and it's still high, but I got easily used to it, and it doesn't bother me. You sit on the same level as in minivan (a bit lower). You have a great view of the road. The leather seats are comfortable. The passenger seats lacks of an arm rest. Storage. Editors claim that the storage in PT Cruiser is huge. Not really. The rear trunk is fairly small, but deep. You can put in about 3-4 Computer towers, without boxes! I had to flip and tumble seats to accomodate space for monitors. If you plan to carry large objects, I recommed to remove the rear seats. Even if you tumble them, they still take up space. The advantage of PT over a car based wagon is that's it's higher, so you can put two boxes on top of each other. Table. The rear cover is an amazing invention. You can use it to cover your load in the trunk, great if you carry expensive contents, or level it with flipped down seats creating a great loading floor, and a space to put small stuff. It can also be used as a table. I tried this feature in a McDonalds drive in. It attracted a lot of curious eyes when I opened the hatch, popped out a little table and had a picnic in the parking lot. :-) Exterior. The PT Cruiser is out for 3 years, but you don't see them lining up the streets. Here in Toronto you see them once in a while on the highway. So, driving a PT Cruiser, you stand out from the crowd (thousands of BMWs, Benzes, Audi and imports). I am still surprised how many people stare at the car and give thumbs up. Women and kids especially like the car. I got waves from other PT drivers. I guess there is a whole underground of PT drivers. :-) Stereo. Decent. The LE comes with tapedeck and single CD player. I also use a MP3 CD/Diskman player via the tape adapter, and it sounds great. The PT has 6 speakers and it's sufficient. Overall, I am pleased with the car. It looks different, stands from the crowd. It's very practical, comfortable and decent on gas. I would recomend it to anyone who is in IT business and wants to stand out with a fun to drive car without the expense of getting a European snob car. Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring Edition
Strength:
The PT Cruiser is a very reliable, efficient vehicle. It has lots of room to spare, and is generally quiet on the road.
Weakness:
A few things ...First, When the car is idiling, it sounds very loud. Second, When I have my A/C on at all, the pickup in the car is decreased by 70 percent. (like most 4 cylinder cars). BAD GAS MILEAGE. Takes 22 dollars to fill the tank, and it's gone in 2 1/2 days. Well, first off let me say that I love my car. It is VERY roomy. Good enough for 2 adults and 2 car seats in the back, with room to spare. I love the cargo area, lots of room for when you go shopping, and the bag hooks are a real plus. I really enjoy the smooth ride, and the look of the car. Similar Products Used: 1991 Ford Escort LX, 1988 Pontiac Sunbird, 1986 Chevy Oldsmobile. |

Styling, good looks, fun to drive. Love the way the driver seat raises to sit up high, and can carry LOTS with seats folded down!
Weakness:
Poor mileage, a/c doesn't work (brother says his neon does the same thing), the cranberry color gets dirty way too easily! Bought the car new in January 2002. Loved it and still love the styling. Have had many problems with the a/c, can't depend on it for the summer. It cools just fine and then just stops cooling although fan is blowing. After pulling off the road for 30-45 minutes, will cool again after thawing out. Has been in shop 3 times for this. I've modified the interior of the back of the car to hold my handicap scooter, but have to use a heavy manual ramp because the opening is too small for a lift and a Class II or III hitch won't fit the car. Mileage is poor, and it takes 3 turn lanes to make a u-turn because of the wheel base. Still, fun to drive and I like the looks. I will probably trade it off in about a year. Over heating and noise. My wife drove the PT for about a year and she put 15000 miles on it. I have it now and I put 2000 miles on it. The problem is that PT thremo-stat got stuck or diffective. So I took it to dealer they replace it. Three day later it over heats again and I take back to dealer says it's a blown head gasget. I said what. I have had many car and I never blew no head gasket. I call the dealer and ask it's been a week where is my PT they said they have had a back order on gasket kits. My question is has there been any problems like mine? and if why? is there going to be a recall? |
