Strength:
Rides great, great with 2 children and a big husky. Love all the room.
Weakness:
Transmission is real weak. It went after 45,000 miles. I have only had this vehicle for 2 months. I bought it from a used car lot. (not too smart) I started having transmission problems. It was slipping when it was going into third gear. I contacted Chrysler and they made it sound like they were going to help me. Had me take it to the nearest Dodge Dealer and have it diagnosed. The Dodge dealer called Chrysler back with my case number and diagnosis. Chrysler said "Oh, now we are not going to help!!" What a joke. My advise to anyone who is purchasing one of these vehicles. Is don''t!!! It is a great vehicle other than that, but if you want to stick a lot of money in something this is the vehicle to drive. It cost us $3500.00. Good luck!! Similar Products Used: I have never had a SUV before. But I can say that next time it will be a Chevy. |

every thing that isn''t listed in strenths. crappy gas mileage. Well being 19 when i bought the truck i love the stylish looks. 300 miles from the car lot the check engine lite came on. took it in the fixed it 3 days later. THE BRAKES SUCK, HAS TROBLE STOPPING, SQUEELS, AND A CLIP KEEP COMMING OFF. 13,000 miles later the brakes STILL SUCK. Looks:At first glance you are hooked. Versatility:Cool for the family.Cool for work.Cool for play. Power:It''s a horse. What else compares in this class?
Weakness:
Blind Spots:C pillars very thick. Tires:Must buy aftermarket tires. Can someone e-mail me with suggestions? Gas Mileage: What else you expect? I bought this truck in November 2000 and 31000 miles later my only complaint is with the brakes and the Goodyear tires(trash). The only time you feel safe on wet or slippery pavement is when you''re in 4x4 mode.Brakes squeak for a couple months then stop.Traded in a 99 D for this one and I can truly say, there is a difference.''98 thru 2000 owners I feel your pain, something is definitely up with those vehicles. But the ''01 seems to ride smoother and stronger if not quieter than the previous years.Interior is nice but too much plastic for price.Don''t get huge 9x6 mirrors, they only get in the way.Premium sound system is good but the speakers are paper and not made for real power.Access to third row is simple with fold up 2nd row seats on both sides.Love the leather, easy to clean.Glove box way too small.Exterior speaks for itself.Resale value for this vehicle is in the dirt,if Chrysler can get their heads out their @#$%&! with the LOUSY service depts.they have nationwide,I''m sure it would help. |

TRANSMISSION IS VERY WEAK,BALL JOINTS MAKE NOISE,MY POWER WINDOW IN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE STOPPED WORKING AT ONLY 12,000 MILES,THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT,& CHECK GAUGES LIGHTS ALWAYS COME ON,I''M ON MY 3rd SET OF BRAKES AND THEY STILL MAKE NOISE AND I ONLY HAVE 30,000 MILES ON THIS TRUCK.I COULD GO ON,ETC. Strength:
Comfortable, plenty of room for the kids to spread out.
Weakness:
New breaks every 10,000 miles. Had to have a new manifold gasket, new lower ball joints, new battery, two new power window motors, re-alignment, new tires at 20,000 miles (even though they were rotated regularly), horrible gas mileage (knew that when I bought it, but never realized just how pitiful 11 and 13 mpg was). A/C and heat controls slip, and it gets stuck on defrost, horrible stereo reception, power steering is extremely noisy. Oh, I could go on and on about the things I don''t like. Perhaps it''s just a lemon, but Chrysler offers no compensation for that. Biggest mistake I ever made when purchasing a vehicle. |

NONE!
Weakness:
EVERYTHING!!! We traded in a chevy blazer for the durango, we thought we had made a good choice. Boy were we wrong. We have had nothing but problems with this truck. It all started because the A/C had a leak and everything else fell apart. They have replaced the steering column twice the skid plate twice the wheel bearings, the front end bushings twice, the thermometer gasket and we still have a noise everytime you turn the steering wheel to the right. After the truck being in service 9 times for the same problem we have given up and now are taking Chrysler to court. We will see what happens? |

Strength:
Styling, powerful engine, smooth ride; seating/cargo/towing capacity.
Weakness:
Recurring minor problems as outlined above; gas mileage (13 mpg), brakes. After driving my 1986 Ramcharger for 200,000 miles, I decided it was time to get a new SUV. I purchased this after test driving numerous used Durangos (1998 - 2000). The ride of the 2001 was so much better. This vehicle (SLT plus with 4.7 L V8) was loaded and definitely can handle passengers and cargo with ease. The third seat is a must for people with kids. Ground clearance is good; seating is comfortable; well thought-out (easy to read) instrument panel. Only two minor problems have cropped up so far (one of which keeps coming back). The passenger front door panel rattled (dealer fixed this), and the "Malfunction Indicator Light" (aka check engine light) came on after my first refueling. The first time, the dealer said it was probably a loose gas cap. The second time, the dealer said the gas cap was leaking (replaced it - no charge). The third time, the dealer determined the problem was "somewhere" in the fuel delivery system. They replaced the enter line from gas tank to engine. This seemed to work, as the light did not turn on for months after that (until last week). This is more of a nuisance problem, since we have to take the vehicle in to the dealer for the whole day (the light does not go out if the "problem", like a loose gas cap, is corrected. It can only be reset by the dealer). This could be a problem with the 4.7 engine, since I have not read of this problem happening on other (non-4.7) models. The only other possible problem is the brakes - they seem to grind sometimes, and they have had an intermittent squeel since day one. Overall, a good vehicle for hauling many people or a lot of cargo. Great for a family "on-the-go". Similar Products Used: 1977 Blazer, 1986 Ramcharger |

Strength:
Good looking, functional third seat, roomy, drives good.
Weakness:
Gas mileage with the 5.9L V8 is low. This Dodge was the first Chrysler product I had ever owned. It proved out to be a very reliable, and fun to drive vehicle. In the 3 plus years i owned it, I had only to replace the battery, which is made by Exide. I replaced it twice. Other than that, I had very few problems. Strength:
Engine, great seats, incredible power, good reliability (so far), great looks, R/T package ands flare. Also, the fact an Explorer will never be as fast helps!!
Weakness:
Gas milage(I get 11), R/T tires aren''t the best for Colorado snow. Has proven to be a great truck. I was very leery when I bought this truck, I have had Dodges and various Chryslers before and they have not been the best when it came to reliability. This truck has been great though. I got the R/T package because I liked the graphics and special seats, but the engine tuned this way is great for towing. I live in Littleton and commute twice a week to Breckenridge and just broke 110,000 miles without any problems. Love the truck and would buy another...A few bad apples DON''T spoil the bunch! Strength:
Good amount of room. Very comfortable ride. Great power for driving and pulling.
Weakness:
Low gas mileage. Squeaky brakes. Nothing else at this point. I have used the vehicle for three months now and love it. It is hard for me to compare this vehicle to the others I have had, as they have all been mid-sized cars, but I am very satisfied. |
