Durrango
Strength:
With the big 5.9 V8 this SUV has been great at towing a horse trailer. The extra drop down seat in the back has been very useful when transporting the kids. It is bigger than a Grand Cherokee but smaller than a Suburban.
Weakness:
Since it is based on a truck platform expect a truck liker ride. (1999 Model) - Overall we like our Durrango as it fits our needs and lifestyle. I never thought I would own a Dodge. |

Strength:
Great looking SUV Powerful 5.9L engine Comfortable and roomy interior
Weakness:
For an SUV, NONE! (1999 Model) - I've had my truck for 8 months and 8,400 miles with absolutely no problems. It's the best looking SUV around and positively thunders down the road! The interior is comfortable and roomy. By selecting only 2 rows of seats, Dodge gives you an extra 2"" of leg room in the 2nd row. If you're not the off-road type, you can get it without 4WD and save about $2,000. Serious SUV buyers know that a true SUV is a TRUCK and drives like a truck, not like one of those sissy SUV wannabes like the RX300. If you get queasy over gas mileage, then you shouldn't be driving an SUV! |

I love the look of it. I have moved since buying the car and its cargo space was amazing. I am happy with the audio, but no great critic. I am a petite woman and this vehicle is very nice to get in and out of.
Weakness:
Sorry Dodge, you have missed the boat on this mechanically. I too have had to have the car aligned - my first alignment ever. The mechanic said that the play allowed for alignment didn't even permit him to align it properly, he got it as close as possible. Gas usage is high, but anticipated. My durango is sitting in my driveway dead. I have less than 60,000 miles on it and have blown the engine - i believe due to an oil pump failure. All of the other owners that discussed the windows; my rear windows failed to work at the time of purchase - there is a shop order of some kind on file with Dodge - the motors have faulty regulators and both of the window motors were replace - free of charge I might add. Up until the engine blew a rod and it died, I would have said this was my greatest buy - now I will tell you that the doubts I had about its price tag are coming true in spades - I have a huge car payment, huge gas bills and now a GIANT repair bill. And reading some of the other Durango owner reviews - I can only wait to see what is yet to come!!! I am agonizingly disappointed! Similar Products Used: First SUV, but drove a bunch in the buying process. Loved the view from the drivers seat ( I am short statured) Loved the small car feel with the room to take the ball team home - Much preferred the Durango to other SUVs tested |

Durango R/T
Strength:
Nice looking, 17" wheels, throaty exhaust sound. 7 pass., good size for parking, etc.
Weakness:
Of course the lousy milage and to make it worse I need 91 Octane min. for the R/T. One dealer told me you can get the chip "flashed" to run on reg. fuel ( you lose 5 HP), another dealer says you can't alter the computer, Dodge responded to my letter and said "ask your dealer" (lots of help they were!). I like this vehicle but the ride is a little stiff compared to a 2001 Yukon. It seems the tranny slips a lot, especially when towing my boat(4,500 Lbs). I love the "Patriot Blue" and the leather/suede int. Similar Products Used: None |

Durango SLT 2WD
Strength:
Looks, power, handling, comfort and passenger room, third rear seat, excellent stereo, control locations are handy, good visibilty, good fit and finish, auto locking doors, rear air/heat a big plus, good cargo room
Weakness:
Gas mileage, wind noise at highway speeds, low grade "custom" wheels, transmission needs shift kit This is one of the finest 2WD SUV's I've owned. I drive it daily, in city and highway conditions, and love it. Gas mileage is typical for an SUV, 13/19 mpg. Handling and power (5.9L) are great. Looks are macho and appealing. This is definitely a keeper. Future plans include lift kit, rim/tires, nerf bars, transmission shift kit, and supercharger. The only problems I've experienced were with the clear coat on the black paint bubbling, and driver's seat control cluster breaking. Both were taken care of cheerfully and quickly by Larry Miller Dodge. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for 4WD looks, with 2WD practicality. Face it folks, only 10% of SUV owners get off road. This provides the best of both worlds. Size, power, comfort, cargo room, and looks.
Weakness:
I own a gas station and garage, so gas is no big deal:). I really have found no major weaknesses in the "D". This is the best suv I have ever owned. It's big but not as big as other suv's. It has great power for such a big vehicle. Lots of people look at me funny when I blow their doors off in an big suv. I have done many mods to my "D." It has a cold air intake, performance pcm, flowmaster cat back, and 180 degree thermostat. I hope to soon add a supercharger. On the outside of my "D" I have a safari bar with 2 hellas, a wilderness roof rack with 2 more hellas, and I made my own rocker skids. Similar Products Used: 1997 jeep grand cherokee- I still have my jeep and love it. The durango just has more "stuff." |

Dodge Durango SLT Plus
Strength:
styling - storage capacity - performance - ride - good ride height (sits up high - but not too high), value and quality
Weakness:
Gas milage(But I didnt buy it for that!!), some minor maintenance work needed My Dodge; 5.9, leather seats, full time 4x4, 3rd seating, mid AC, tow package, extra heavy bat and trans, heated mirrors, and engine heater block. I got all the options except the higher axle ratio (3.55 is still pretty large). I have owned it for almost 2 years now. I have had whosh whosh sound after about 4 months. Nothing major. The dealer replaced the wheel baring and somthing to support the axle. No problem since. Dealer also did the computer upgrade which reduced the loud fan roar I somtimes got durning the first few min of driving. The engine runs great with no odd noises now. I get around 10 mpg in the city but expected it for the 4x4 and the 5.9. As far as performance it rocks. I still admire the looks. The interior is sleek but not too new age/geekish. The console and controls is well placed and not overly space age. I like where all the controls (air, cruise, light, and radio) are located. The height is just right in that your average height person dosn't have to set up into and bend into. There is a "blind-spot" created by the front supports on either side of the windshield but I figure it is there for more roof support in case of a turn over. The seats feel great. I can't say much about the rear seats since I haven't been a passger that much. I go over it about every week with a fine tooth come and like what I've seen so far. I just noted that the diver side mirror has a small hair line crack in it (need to mention it to the dealer). The biggest impression I have is "solid". That may explain the weight of the vechile (must of used alot of good odd fahion steel). Being in the military and could be stationed anywhere in the world I wanted a vehicle with 4x4, lots of power, cargo room/passager room, at a good price. Man did I luck out!!! Durango
Strength:
I did love to drive the vehicle.
Weakness:
None I purchased a 2001 Dodge Durango in February 2001. It only had 7 miles. It was a loaded SLT Plus series, 2wd. In June, I was driving along a smooth, straight road, 10am and clear, with no other traffic, when suddenly the steering went out of control. The steering wheel turned hard to the right. I fought to straighten it but couldn't. We went into a spin and the Durango rolled over. My son and I crawled through the windows, as the doors would not open. Please beware of these vehicles. It was a total loss. There was no warning, I was not using a cell phone or eating or anything, and we were doing about 40mph. Please beware... Similar Products Used: None |

Weakness:
mpg's, kinda noisy, Got this after 2000 Dakota got towed in for 6th time in 11 months. Started talking about lemon laws with the 8 people in the waiting room and 5 others in the showroom and the dealer seemed to want to help me out. This has every option available but a $38500 price tag, but the dealer "wanted" to give me a good deal. They were very helpful at Burlington Dodge, though. I would definately buy from them again and highly recommend them. Tomorrow, however, Durango goes in for it's 12k service and a few warrantee things listed out below. Strength:
Fits many people and has a lot of room for baggage or larger sized items. Looks great and I do receive many compliments on it. Everyone wants to take it for a ride.
Weakness:
Gas is very expensive. Costs me to much to drive it on trips. I wanted a SUV to fit many people at 1 time. The Durango was the best bet to fit 7 people at a reasonable price. I loved the look of a Ram or the Dakota and then the Durango came out so I had to go for it. If you have a big family or have much cargo, this is the SUV for you. Similar Products Used: 2001 Chevy Blazer- Durango is 10 times better. More room and you actually feel like you are driving a real truck. |
