Ford Escape
Strength:
Excellent car for the first six months.
Weakness:
Everything. They should have just made it out of cardboard. "Buy American" - I'm as patriotic as they come, but, forget this slogan. If you but American, you wind up supporting the economy with the cost of repairs. Will never buy another Ford product. -- LEMON -- From day 1, had the PFE ensor replaced twice, replaced brakes and rotars after 1yr and a half, replaced stabilizer bars a few months ago, replaced master cyllindar for brakes (was leaking brake fluid). Now I am up to stalling. Whenever I leave the car for about an 8 hour period, start it up, go, stalls, start it up again. Cost for fixing stalling $ 550.00, guess what, it still stalls. |

Strength:
Roomy and easy to get in and out of. Bought the car so my parents and husband (had knee surgery last year) could enter and exit esaily.
Weakness:
Gas mileage is the biggest complaint, particularly with gas at $2 a gallon. Love the car but have had one strange problem - haven't seen this in any of the other reviews. Whenever I am going about 20 to 35 mph and brake slightly the car "lurches" forward a bit when I take the brake off. This hasn't caused any dangerous situations yet but I am keeping an eye on it. Ford Escape XLT
Strength:
-Comfort
Weakness:
-Poor gas mileage -Engine has a known defect and blows up without warning. At first I thought that I had found a SUV jewel in the Escape. The gas mileage was not the best but the power and comfort was there. I had 24000Km's (15000 miles)on it when at highway speed the engine rattled for 30 seconds and then blew up spilling fluids and parts onto the road. Upon further investigation I found out the this is a very common problem with the Escape and that Ford in well aware of the problem. So buyer beware..... Similar Products Used: GMC Jimmy |

Escap XLT
Strength:
Roomy, drives ok
Weakness:
Noisy, bad fuel economy, Shocks went at about 40K, rotors went @ 60K. Ford said it's normal, I say yes if the're made out of butter. Will never even look at Ford agian. First we loved it. Had enough pep, sporty looking, hugs the road, etc. But then little things started to go, and the big things started as well. We had to replace rotors @ 60K, and the cost of repair $600 CDN. Very poor fuel economy. |

Escape XLT 4x2
Strength:
Confortable and good pep with the V6
Weakness:
My Escape stalls without warning. The first time it happened was when I had the car for less than a month. I called the dealer and they said that the car wasn't broken in yet. It went almost a year without happening again and now it has stalled 3 times in the last month. Other minor weaknesses or the noise and the brake dust on the front tires. At first I loved my Escape... then it tried to killed me. A car that is just over a year old should not stall. Now I am afraid to drive it. |

strengths...roomy enough for 5 people..the seats go down to makeit like a covered pick up....i like the compactness..and sporty look to the xlt. alot of it is nice but.
Weakness:
i am having problems increasingly with stalling out...while driving...the 1st time i was driving in Michigan where i came from...and the AC was on....i slowed for a light, and i stalled out..luckily no cars were in the left lane...my steering wheel just turned to the left...i had to restart...now it is August of 2003...i have had 7 stalls now since this summer....why? i thought it might of been because of the AC unit...because most of the time..it was running when the vehicle stalled, now twice it stalls in mid whatever...slowing down..or turning which is not amusing...i have been lucky so far, and i am not happy, AND my battery light is on for a few minutes..now...its been tested, and still is on..for a new vehicle...what is the deal..ford should recall these escapes..purely for the possibility of a bad accident...or worse. i am taking mine in to the dealership, and i am tellingthem...this. well at 1st i was happy, theres enough room handles road nicely...gas mileage as it say..19 to the gallon...i have a trailor hitch...nice to have...have no real problems until now. i like this vehicle..but.. |

Strength:
good power smooth transmission lots of interior room good visability lots of headroom lots of storage areas lots of standart features
Weakness:
some interior finishes look cheap small spare tire no-low 4x4 gear So far the vehicle feels solid and well finished, the engine performs well and has plenty passing power and the transmission shifts smoothly. Some of the interior finishes appear a little cheap i.e. the dash plastic. It is abit disapointing that only a small spare tire comes with the vehicle. Similar Products Used: jeep, honda |

Turning off while you are driving!!! SCARY I just purchased my 2002 Ford Escape in May 2002. About a month after I had my car, lucky I was slowing down to make and turn and my steering wheel locked up and then I figured out that my car had just shut off. I was a little startled but thought maybe the car overheated because I had the AC running. THen yesterday while I was on a back road going home, the car shut off again on me. At this point I am scared to drive the car. I love my car but at this point, it is not worth taking my life for or my family. I am totally amazed that there has not yet been a rcall for this. I check out the internet today and there are no recalls for this car. I don't think FORD reads this web site. Good luck to everyone who has this problem! |
