Ford Escape (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Escape is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, and lead the small SUV class back when it was first introduced in 2001. Although changes have continued to be made to the Escape over the last ten years, its exterior and interior designs are looking dated compared to the competition.

The XLS FWD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 171-horsepower engine that achieves 22-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The Limited Hybrid 4WD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 153-horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 29-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The Ford Escape gets good fuel economy with its standard 4-cylinder engine and it offers a long list of high tech features and options such as the Ford SYNC entertainment system, programmable MyKey and active park assist, a system which allows the Escape to parallel park itself with very little driver involvement.

Had problems starting up the Escape after 8 months of ownership.Brought it to the Dealer and they corrected the problem. Today (7/30/03)was driving 40 mph and the engine shut off - I lost power steering and brakes and had to swerve to not hit a car. Called the dealership immediately and they can't see me for 4 days. Ford needs to have a recall before someone dies.

Strength:

The all wheel drive was great this winter.Gets descent gas milage and is fairly comfortable.

Weakness:

Is noisy . Stalled while driving down a hill. Our rating will depend on the kind of service we get from Ford about the stalling issue.

My husband and I purchased our Escape in March of 2002. It had been used by one of the owners and had around 2,500 miles on it. We have taken it in for regular maintenance every 3,000 miles. We have had no problems until this weekend when traveling down a hill at around 40mph it stalled. Luckily my husband was able to get it off the road onto a shoulder and no one was close enough behind us to hit us. It was very unnerving. We could find nothing under the hood other than the windshield washer cover was off. We had taken it in for a checkup the previous week. After reading other reviews about the 2002 Escape stalling for no apparent reason I will be calling my dealership and expecting an explanation from them and hopefully a soultion to the problem before it occurs again and the outcome is not so lucky. Am very glad to have this resource as we thought it was just a fluke.

Weakness:

Airbags disarmed at random intervals; car stalls on road; very noisey

Bought car new and within 6 months airbag ligth was flashing. Since then I have had car into local dealership many times and at first I was told they were unable to duplicate my concerns. Until I parked the vehicle in their driveway and would not shut it off! They have replaced pretensioner several times. So I filed lemon law as the airbags are disabled when light is on! I have also had my SUV stall 2 times in traffic but Ford can not verify problem. Service dept does not care at all about resolving problems so I called Ford Corporate and they were not interested in addressing my problen either. I would never buy or recommed another Ford product again. (My family has been Ford dealers for 50+ years up north!

Strength:

engine pick up-very quick; gets good mileage

Weakness:

dust/dirt tends to show up on the inside, the air seems to not recirculate very well.

Rides smooth, very peppy engine. Very roomy inside, making it great for road trips. Haven't had any major problems, even with 53,000+ miles. I have noticed brake dust on the front brakes, even after washing. No other problems. Its a great little SUV.

size, looks, handeling (when it works) good gas milege

Weakness:

high noise level, faulty craftmanship, cheap moldings, duribility obviously BAd at 29,000 . This car won't last 5 years.

So far the car has had almost the entire suspension system replaced. At 29,000 miles it completely wore out the tires due to the stabilizer bars actually wearing a hole into the frame. It stalls ,with no warning. The car has been to service at least once a month since purchase due to engine problems. The moldings can be found on the garage floor and sometimes not at all. Its a great looking, well planned auto thats is made worse than a plastic box model you put together with airplane glue. FORD???? never again!!!!

Strength:

Good looking, roomy, peppy engine, good gas mileage, easy to drive and control.

Weakness:

stalling for no apparent reason and excessive brake dust on the front rims.

At 3000 miles the vehicle stalled while driving on the highway--lost power steering, brakes etc. I called the dealership immediately, and they said I had to bring it in to replace some parts. It was a problem on some of the Escapes. They'd replace the parts that were listed in the computer by Ford as contributing to this problem. Now, I have 10,700 miles and it's stalled again. It always restarts, but you never know when it's going to happen, and it's scary. I agree, Ford should have a recall and solve the problem before more injuries are reported.

Strength:

Handling, very strong six cylinder engine, kicker stereo, sun roof, towing packahe, and 4wd - all for $22,000 negotiated price.

Weakness:

Lack of a standard transmission with the 6 cyl.

This is an initial review, just having taken delivery of the vehicle two weeks ago. Having driven large 4wd pickups for over 30 yrs., this is a whole new world in handling. The other vehicles were aim and hope for the best, this one is point and shoot. While it is a twin of the Ford Escape, the styling seems much better. Mazda has just taken the basic package and tweaked it slightly, for about the same price.

Pick-up of the 201hp engine Room (Especially in the rear) Looks Price

Weakness:

Automatic Idle Control (A acquaintance drives a Tribute and has had his replaced twice) Interior mouldings are cheap Lack of Re-Circ on the AC Quirky CD player 3Yr, 60,00Km warranty---why not a 5yr, 100,000km powertrain as well?

This is a very versitile SUV for the size. It has good pick up and for the price (drive this and then the RAV--night and day) and it has more features than the Liberty, RAV 4 or the CR-V. It has a surprisingly smooth ride, though the Santa Fe's is better. The AC is quite good, though the famous Ford lack of a re-circ feature is quite annoying--the interior is slightly more dirty as a result. The centre console is nice and the rear passengers we have comment on the amount of room in the back. The brakes are strong, though we have had a squeal at times almost from the onset. We have had a few "quality issues", which makes me wonder what else is in store for us in the future (14,500km now). The automatic idle control was replaced after it suddenly accelerated twice (and almost put me into the back of a van), the interior mouldings are cheap and are coming off and the CD player is quirky. The shifter is a bit odd too---at times it has been difficult to get out of gear---even when parking on a flat surface. Overall, it is a good SUV for the money although I am wondering about the long-term quality of the Ford.

Strength:

good gas mileage for class of car, small and maneuverable, drives like a car, nice design, comfortable interior, roomy, I like that back door opens up instead of out.

Weakness:

no armrest, lots of road noise, doesn't shift quite as smoothly as other cars(although that could be me.

I have a 5-speed Ford Escape and I love it! I never wanted an suv, but I had a p.o.s. Dodge Intrepid that I had to get rid of and this truck fit with my payment range. My 1-yr-old has plenty of room in the back and I don't feel like I'm sitting on my husband when he rides with me. The gas mileage is very good for this kind of car and it has plenty of get up and go. I like having a casette and c.d.player and I like the layout of the interior. I only wish there was an armrest because I don't know what to do with my left arm when I'm driving.
