Ford Escape (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Escape is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, and lead the small SUV class back when it was first introduced in 2001. Although changes have continued to be made to the Escape over the last ten years, its exterior and interior designs are looking dated compared to the competition.

The XLS FWD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 171-horsepower engine that achieves 22-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The Limited Hybrid 4WD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 153-horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 29-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The Ford Escape gets good fuel economy with its standard 4-cylinder engine and it offers a long list of high tech features and options such as the Ford SYNC entertainment system, programmable MyKey and active park assist, a system which allows the Escape to parallel park itself with very little driver involvement.

So far she stalls....but still undecided, hopefully this wont happen again...

Purchased my new "princess" one month ago. Am beginning to fear she is one of the "ugly stepsisters" and not the "princess" I thought she was. Yesterday she stalled for the first time...only 850 miles. What did I get myself into?????

Strength:

V6 had nice power.

Weakness:

Engine cuts out and steering locks while driving.

The first few months this was a great vehicle. Unfortunately, the engine has cut-off and the steering has locked while moving twice now (a safety concern in my book!) The dealership doesn't know what to fix. If anyone else has had this problem, please email me.

looks good, not a japanese car

Weakness:

unreliable so far: 2 breakdowns in a little over a year. the damn shifter/stereo thing-now thats some design

i write this as i wait for a wrecker to tow my escape to the shop...yesterday it just stopped running as i drove my pregnant wife to the doctors office...i check all the fluids and as many things as i could and the truck seemed perfect... i guess it just got tired of working....21000 miles and in the shop twice now. the first time for an unexplained electrical problem which im sure has something to do with my current situation. there are various noises that seem to come from out of nowhere when turing and they are not "normal"..the back doors are difficult to close all the way..you always have to close them twice.i would love to recommend this vehicle to you but i just cannot. this is an unbias summary as i really want to like this truck... i feel so let down however that i have to say that it is a bad choice if you want a vehicle that you dont have to worry about when you have a wife who is expecting any day now, unless you have a more reliable car on stand-by.

strong acceleration. terrific radio

Incredibly dissapointed with this trucklette. I was so happy for the first few months then it started stalling without warning. It stalls on my wife at least twice a day without any rhyme or reason and leaves her in a huge risk of being rear-ended on many occasions. I would recommend NOT buying this vehicle and we are trying to resolve this issue with Ford so we are not at risk ourselves. If you are a stalling victim, please email us, as Ford is telling each owner they are "unique" so they don't have to recall.

Looks That pretty much sums it up

Weakness:

This car has stalled on me 6 times since I bought it in September 2001 Everytime I take it to Ford for an answer they tell me "It's fixed take it home" Everytime I take it home it stalls again and I find something new wrong with it Stalling (6 times still no repair) Back windshield wiper (3 times to repair)weather stripping (3 times and still not repaired) misc. engine/abs/brakes lights go on for no evident reason (2 times in to fix radio/cd player (3 times to repair) A little ridiculous if you ask me Too many problems to spend this amount of money on Currently talking to the Dispute Settlement Board to get the car taken way Why would I ever believe that Ford could fix my stalling problem if they can't fix the weather stripping This car has been nothing but a hazard and honestly I fear for my safety and yours I haven't driven the car recently due to all the problems 500 dollars a month for a two ton paperweight

Oh dear God This car has made the past 6 months of my life terrible When it comes to the looks they're sleek awesome just down right bad ass Sophisticated as well but mechanically this car is a mess Of course there is always that chance that I just got a "lemon" just my luck

Great Gas mileage, purfect size family car, V6 Engine and the steering and handling is owesome. Seats should be more like the focus, with more comfort.

Weakness:

Ford needs to get there crap together and fix some of the problems they have with these Escapes before some gets hurt.

I agree I love the car however I have had the car in the shop several time for front windshield fogging up for no reason, foul ordor from AC vents, Clunking noise from front end under brake pedals, clunking noises when engaging gears from drive to park, etc, CD player skips, transmission and axle prolbems which can not be fixed. There is no fix for this situation. Gear shifter jumps out of gear while drive down the road.

Strength:

The engine kicks butt. The ride and handling are second to none. I love the stereo and moonroof. Overall, best vehicle i ever had.

Weakness:

The column shifter is the only thing i can complain about, everything else has been awesome.

I love this vehicle. I have never driven an suv with so much content. The engine is AWESOME, the handling is outstanding, and the gas milage is great. When you stomp the gas, it goes!!! Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Interior could use some updating. Inside fuel release would be nice along with autolocks when transmission engaged.

Great SUV. Great power and handling. Good ergonomics and use of space. Ford/Mazda hit a home run. I have about 11,000 miles on mine with not one problem. Love it! great value.

Strength:

Peppy engine, and lots of space. Pretty good gas mileage. Nice looking too! Good Value for the $$.

Weakness:

Uncomfortable seats for prolonged driving. The Ford Focus has more comfortable seats!! Rear window doesn't roll down. You can still hear wind noise even with the windows rolled up and all the vents closed!

I shopped around for a car that comes with roof racks, and a space for my dog. I looked at the Rav4(just plain ugly), the XTerra(A plastic looking truck w/ built on shell), and on & on...The Escape seemed just right. I have already put 4000 miles on it, and have had it only 1 month. Driving across country with the A/C on full blast, I averaged 25mpg. Very peppy V6 engine, and best looking small SUV out there!! I have read the reviews for the 2001's, and have not run into any problems with the trans. or with stalling. Seems like Ford ironed all the bugs out.

Very smooth ride, great CD/tape player, very comfortable ( I'm 5'3" tall), very sporty looking. Front and side airbags, I feel safe.

Weakness:

slight wind noise could use more storage compartments

I have only had my Escape for a couple of weeks, but I love it! Took my first road trip last week. Averaged 22 miles/gallon on gas. Cruise Control worked great, very little road noise. I did notice some wind noise but not enough to really say anything about.
