Ford Escape (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Escape is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, and lead the small SUV class back when it was first introduced in 2001. Although changes have continued to be made to the Escape over the last ten years, its exterior and interior designs are looking dated compared to the competition.

The XLS FWD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 171-horsepower engine that achieves 22-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The Limited Hybrid 4WD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 153-horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 29-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The Ford Escape gets good fuel economy with its standard 4-cylinder engine and it offers a long list of high tech features and options such as the Ford SYNC entertainment system, programmable MyKey and active park assist, a system which allows the Escape to parallel park itself with very little driver involvement.

Strength:

Power--highway passing and acceleration from stop are excellent Interior Volume Features for Price Ride and Handling is very good Versatility Fuel economy is very good given the performance of the V6

Weakness:

*Wind noise is horrible *Interior materials look cheap and many controls don't feel very substantial *Steering Wheel Cruise Control buttons not illuminated *Stippled texture of door handles and lower body cladding collect wax that is nearly impossible to remove *Gas pedal is far too sensitive--impossible to start or apply throttle in a low speed turn without jerking *Brake dust accumulation on front wheels is excessive

Ordered loaded XLT 4x4 V6 with every option except step bars. Delivered December, 2000. Vehicle is very fun to drive considering its utility, very carlike. Steering is light and precise. Engine and powertrain noise is very good except during hard acceleration, but then it just sounds sporty and fast.

Strength:

Great sound system and plenty of storage space.

Weakness:

Can't go more than 260 miles on a tank of gas. The wind noise is terrible. In fact, it is so bad that I wish I had been aware prior to purchasing. My husband's old Ranger doesn't have that much noise. I thought it was just mine until I started reading the reviews. Also, the front windows are already rattling badly. The engine seems to be unsure of itself at times which makes me nervous. It seems to hesitate when I accelorate...but this is intermittent. I am thinking about getting a wind-deflector for the sunroof to help with the noise level. Also, the brake dust on the front wheels is horrendous.

It is great handling and very cute. It is my post mini-van vehicle. It is a lot of fun to drive...more power than I imagined. I have been able to dress it up a bit with some after-market accessories- painted bug-deflector and ventvisors. I got a great Husky cargo liner for the back and heavy duty floor mats. I was also able to order a custom dash kit to dress up the bland plastic dash. I have just ordered a chrome grill insert which should give it a little more individuality.

Very roomy, gret gas millage and power, looks.

Weakness:

Over rated suv title, it`s a car.

This car is GREAT!!!Lots of power for a four banger. I get about 21 mpg in town, and just loaded it down for a mtb trip to Utah and got 30 mpg on the road. I have had no problems at all with this car.

Weakness:

Gear shifter gets in the way of the radio. The gas mileage is terrible on this SUV. There is also a lot of wind noise.

My alternator went out on my Escape the first 5 days I had it. Then I had a leak on the floor board in the back (a weld was missing). Two months ago my Escape started stalling on me while driving. It stalled on a Tuesday and again the next Friday. They have replaced a bunch of sensors and have told me they really don''t know how to fix the problem. Ford''s Dispute Settlement Board should be hearing my case within the next 30 days.

Strength:

Cutest, small SUV, and power V6.

Weakness:

wind noise, lots plactic inside made the noise and the quality is bad, very bad gas mileage, full tank of gas only can run 300-320Km, squeaky noise at the front driver and passenger behind the post, and the back seat around at the top part between the rear door and quater window, I think it is the body truss welding not good, before I have Tempo also is the same at the same position, after they pull and weld it OK, and the dealer has bad technical service.

I love my Escape, the look and color yellow, the power of the V6, the problem is I used it only have ten month, the tramsmission went out, after the dealer replace, they came out a high pitch noise, the car sit in dealer in and out totally more than two weeks, but they still can''t found out where they come from, and I call to FORD they just tell me bring it to fix, it have warranty, if I bought a new vehicle need always to fix, why I buy the new vehicle, I better to buy a use car for 500.00, may be it doesn''t need to fix, because I knew it is old car. They need to really fix the problem, not always bring it home to try one week and bring it back to fix, waste my time in and out at the dealer service department.

Strength:

Good in the snow. Has a lot of power.

Weakness:

Continuously stalling while driving basically at any speed with no warning. Also, what was Ford thinking when they put the gearshift in? It blocks the radio buttons and the hazard button, which you may need when the vehicle stalls.

Sharp looking small SUV for the money. HOWEVER, the engine stalling problem has to be fixed before someone gets seriously injured. Truck is currently in the shop now for 1 week. This is the second time it has been in for the stalling. I was almost rear-ended. Car stalls for no reason. Ford is replacing "parts" trying to fix the problem, but they don''t seem to know what it is. No recalls have been issued that I am aware of.

Strength:

V6 power is great. I did a slight intake modification (installed a K&N filter) and WOW what an improvement - and you thought stock was peppy????? Very roomy. I drove to NJ (for a job) plenty of room for all my gear. Also very corfortable on a long trip. Great sound system - Mach III is the way to go. Looks are great compared to other small SUV''s - I think the Acura MDX is the best but we''re not in the same ballpark (24K vs 34K) What? Windnoise? Isn''t that what a huge Sun-roof for??? (try some other vehicles with a sunroof and the Escape is very quiet)

Weakness:

4x4 is interesting - I''m not sure if I like the ratchet system (its supposed to "click" but I don''t like it) Wanted heated seats (leather does get cold - but I''ve heard there is a heating kit that''s cheap) MPG - I have an ''00 Celica GT 35mpg. Now I know they are not the same - just wish it got better MPG 15/20ish. I''m thinking a lower restrictive exhaust will do the trick - also worried about a gas leak although no smell.

Very happy. Over-all the most bang for the buck 24k out the door for a new vehicle is a great deal. I was supposed to let the better-half drive it once I get back from NJ but I''m thinking about telling her " NO WAY - I''m driving it" Fun to drive and great sound system. All my frinds and co-workers are very impressed when we go somewhere. I get a lot of compliments on the dark blue color too.

Weakness:

Strange rattle in the passenger front, over to the dealer twice and still no remedy, stalled while driving once which obvioulsy concerns us but this darn rattle#$%&!; and the noisy rear wiper motor, come on.

Searched and searched; liberty, highlander, ect ect; this escape was everything we were looking for plus much more the price range than the Toyota, got the vehicle loaded V ect.

Great vehicle. Use it to tow my 2 jet skiis, for skiing and hiking. V6 is wonderful! Not one problem after 8,000 miles, multiple ski trips and outings. Ford/Mazda have a winner!
