Ford Escape (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Escape is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, and lead the small SUV class back when it was first introduced in 2001. Although changes have continued to be made to the Escape over the last ten years, its exterior and interior designs are looking dated compared to the competition.

The XLS FWD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 171-horsepower engine that achieves 22-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The Limited Hybrid 4WD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 153-horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 29-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The Ford Escape gets good fuel economy with its standard 4-cylinder engine and it offers a long list of high tech features and options such as the Ford SYNC entertainment system, programmable MyKey and active park assist, a system which allows the Escape to parallel park itself with very little driver involvement.

Strength:

Rugged good looks, quick and powerful. Very fun to drive. Firm ride but not uncomfortable, with nice cd/sound system.

Weakness:

Shifter location; have to "find" the hole each time I put the key in; the beeper for seat belt only beeps after you have driven a block or so.

Love my Escape, my favorite vehicle ever. Even beats my 71 merc cougar with 351 cleveland, which was a lot of fun (yes I am old). I have had no mechanical problems, or well, any problems with this vehicle. Get the V-6.

Strength:

like the v6, nice interior, comfortable, great stereo, did well in the snow this winter

Weakness:

engine has stalled twice. have already had to replace the coolant pump and erg valve. am now having a problem with opening the sunroof-only one side raises! the throttle sticks. bad gas milage(compared to what is listed on the sticker). gear shift lever.

although i like my escape (performance ) am very disappointed that it has been in the shop 4 times in less than a year and the stalling engine worries me since there have been several complaints made to nthsa for the same reason. i try to remember that it is a new vehicle and it is going to have problems.

Strength:

Engine dogs the same class competition. Most vehicles don''t have the power of its V6. Styling rules.

Weakness:

Road noise. Rigid seats (sport coupe seats..should be more like other SUV''s)

Awesome ride...looks great..and chicks dig it. Looks more expensive than it is, and rides like a sport coupe. XLT version is definitely the way to go.

Strength:

Great Power from the V6. Exceptional Interior Roominess. Relatively good ride, comfort and handling. Exterior styling which has been complimented by both males and females. Convenient, good sounding, 6 disc in dash stereo CD player. Pretty good gas mileage for a SUV.

Weakness:

Sqeaks in doors when accelarating or stopping. Noisey rear wiper motor. No option for heated leather seats. Interior finish could be better Exterior plastic molding easily scratched from stones and scuffed by feet when using the side step bars. Doors do not automatically lock when put into gear.

So far, so good. I previously had a ''97 Bonneville and the two things I thought I would miss the most was the power and the interior roominess. This is not the case as the 3.0L V6 provides plenty of power and the interior design provides plenty of head and leg room even for my 6''2" frame. Even the back seat provided adequate room. It has been a joy to drive in the limited amount of snow we have had and I am looking forward to my drives up north in the summer with the moonroof opened and the 6 disc in dash CD player blasting out my favourite tunes. Current city driving gas mileage is averaging 18 mpg which I think is pretty good considering there is only 1200 miles on the odometer. I expect this will improve over the next few months. My biggest gripe is the squeaks that come from the doors when accelerating and stopping. This is annoying and should not happen on a 3 month old vehicle of any price. I am hopeful this will be remedied by my dealer during my first service visit. Other complaints are the noisey rear wiper motor, no automatic door locking mechanism and the ease at which the exterior plastic molding can be scatched or scuffed. Many of the complaints noted on the 2001''s, with the exception of the too long gear shift, appear to have been corrected.

Strength:

Handles extremely well. V6 engine gives it great pep, stomp on it and you''ll leave everyone in the dust.

Weakness:

Gear shift a bit in the way of the radio controls.

This is a GREAT vehicle! Tows a 2,000 lb. tent trailer with the V6 engine like it isn''t even back there, even when pulling through mountains with multiple steep inclines. Comfortable drive & ride, plenty of interior room. I am repeatedly amazed at the amount of gear I can load into it with the rear seat flat.

Strength:

MPG, more masculine looking than others. Road performance is great!

Weakness:

Not really for the serious off roader. Seats could be a little less rigid, but are still adequate.

I test drove them all - Liberty, Sante Fe, CRV, Saturn, blah blah blah, This one handles the best by far. It is also the quickest. Great to have front wheel drive and then by able to kick into 4x4. Good bang for the buck all the way around.

Strength:

Lots of power, I''m squealing the tires all the time and I blew away my buddy in his F150 5.4L V-8. I''ve had no problem in the snow, even just with FWD. Sunroof is nice and lots of room in the back when the seats fold down. Great Stereo. I like the plastic wrap around body molding that helps prevent rock chips and door dings.

Weakness:

Almost too much power, the 4X4 model would help eliminate slip during fast acceleration though. Shifter seems in the way at first, but it doesn''t really block the radio buttons or anything. I wish the plastic side molding was a little higher and help defend against door dings a little more.

I got the XLT front wheel drive model. Its been about 10K miles and big problems yet. I think it''s and excellent car.

Strength:

Good acceleration, styling, engine, handling, roomy interior, excellent factory stereo system, drives like a car, very comfortable seats, excellent visibility. Love the yellow color.

Weakness:

What was Ford thinking when they installed the gear shifter???? WAY TOO LONG and interferes with radio buttons, but takes getting used to. Map lights too close to sunroof power control. I have many times accidentally opened the sunroof when reaching for the map lights. As with most SUV''s, gas mileage sucks (this is where I miss my Acura).

Previously owned 94 Acura Integra. Fantastic engine; mechanically sound, but too small to do anything with. Wanted SUV with lots of room that didn''t feel like a truck. Had my eye on Escape for almost a year before buying. No regrets -the Escape is like going on a cruise; you either love it or hate it. I love it!(it''s a total chick SUV). Only mechanical problem so far was it stalled at around 2,000 miles. No problem was found and has been fine since.

Good mileage, Good stereo, tows well, good 4x4 capability, roomy, looks good, gets noticed...did I mention its FAST?

Weakness:

Road noise, and I HATE the door alert.

I shopped around for several months before I bought an SUV. Most cars I decided against just because of the mileage, but I was very impressed with the escape. I own the XLT 4X4 V6. Its fun to drive and I have put a lot of miles on it problem free.
