Ford Escape (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Escape is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, and lead the small SUV class back when it was first introduced in 2001. Although changes have continued to be made to the Escape over the last ten years, its exterior and interior designs are looking dated compared to the competition.

The XLS FWD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 171-horsepower engine that achieves 22-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The Limited Hybrid 4WD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 153-horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 29-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The Ford Escape gets good fuel economy with its standard 4-cylinder engine and it offers a long list of high tech features and options such as the Ford SYNC entertainment system, programmable MyKey and active park assist, a system which allows the Escape to parallel park itself with very little driver involvement.

Strength:

Value! I was looking for a small all-round SUV with some guts. Got it!

Weakness:

Poor gas Mileage! What''s with that?

This vehicle is everything I was looking for and everything I expected. All positive exept gas mileage. Was close to buying a Pathfinder for another $8000CAD, but I''m comfortable that I made the right choice.

Strength:

ENGINE,is awsome! The automatic transmision works great, the power is there when you need it. This mini suv has lots of room for stuff. I have put two kids, a German Shepard dog and two adults plus bagage and have room to spare.

Weakness:

Cheap interior, switches on climate control are very flimsy. Also, the gear lever blocks out the sterio when it is in drive. No mirrors on visors. 4 wheel drive does not have a low range setting, this prcludes any real 4 wheel driving.

fun to drive, good mini-suv.

Strength:

Tons of room and great visibility. Leather package is worth it. 6 disc changer sounds incredible. Lots of power and smooth ride.

Weakness:

Not as stable as I would like in a cross-wind, but put that down to height. Perhaps a heavier suspension would help.

Bought this for my wife to commute in heavy traffic. V6, auto 2wd, leather. Great vehicle. Have not had the mileage problems others mention. Shifter lever sucks, but no room on the floor if you have the XLT console. No road noise to speak of, lots of brake dust. Built one on Ford.Com and got a great deal. Beats the X-terra hands down. I''m 6''4 and needed headroom and leg room. Nothing else came close. My Ranger is more fun, but it has the 5 speed, and cannot haul 5 adults.

Strength:

Peepy. fun to dirve and really roomy. Has more power than all of the other mini-suvs in its class. Just a really fun vehicle to drive and looks great.

Weakness:

Non noted so far.

Purchased the xls 2002 model and and more than happy with it. Get the V6. The added power is really noticeable over our subaru wagon we traded in. Have not noticed the wind noise at high speeds others have noted about the 2001 model. Really sounds like ford has worked out all the bugs in the 2001 model. Ours has a sunroof which is a nice added feature and stereo systems sounds good for a stock sound system. Have shunned owning a true SUV and this model is definitely a nice compromise.

Strength:

Powerfull, a lot of cargo space for a small SUV, good price, good in gas, it comes with A/C, CD and Tape (in most of the SUV you have to buy it separated).

Weakness:

none, until now. If something happen i let you know.

This is a very good SUV. A lot of power for a 2.0 liter motor. Ride smooth like a car. Very roomy and economic. It''s a good deal.

Strength:

roomy, gas milage, 4wheel drive

Weakness:

Really bad in tight radius turns.(parking spaces). Must give it gas to keep going, then when you do it jerks. Couldn''t get cruise to set over 66mph. Bad when speed limit is 65 and everyone is blowing past you. Try to hold a constant speed is near impossible. Kept clunking in 4 wheel drive. Wipers would come on sometimes when you washed windshield, sometimes it wouldn''t. screams like a stuck pig when freeway passing.

This thing sucks!! I wouldn''t own one if you bought it for me.Used on a trip to Colorado. Only real plus is 4 wheel drive. Remember downshift problems with chevy 700r4 tranny, 100x worse. If you like this vehicle, you wouldn''t know a good vehicle if it ran you over!!!

Strength:

The engine has a lot of pick up when you need it. The back seat lays completely down flat.

Weakness:

Clicking seatbelt (someone make it stop!), the gas mileage isn''t great, and the gas peddle sticks when its cold outside.

Powerful and fun. This SUV is a great vehicle for around the town stuff or even a trip to the beach. It can hold lots of stuff and the seats flip completely down to lay flat. Overall I''m very pleased.

Strength:

V-6 is very nice and necessary. The MACH audio system is very loud and clear. Nice and roomy on the inside and the moonroof is great.

Weakness:

That brake dust on the front rims really sucks. If you want to keep it clean you gotta clean it every week. Also, I''m 6''1" and the driver''s seat take a little getting used to.

I got my Escape about 3 months ago and I love it! Its my first new car and I think I made the right choice. Its a little pricey if you get every option, but thats the only way to go.

Strength:

Power and Reliability, Aesthetically pleasing. Smooth driving and great acceleration and pull. It zings on the highway. Fairly quiet and the size is just right. Its bigger and roomier than its competitots. but drives just like a car because it''s light as a feather.

Weakness:

Stupid gear shift on the steering wheel! A small price to pay for having a great car!

This is by far the best vehicle I''ve ever been into. I test drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and this SUV handled just as nice. The V6 and 4 wheel drive is a must on this car. The pull and acceleration on this SUV are also is everything I''ve expected . It easily beats out all of its cmopetition as far as power and reliability are concerned. It is big and high enough to be an SUV but this thing drives like a car. One can always expect a smooth and confortable driving. The suspension is great also. Its looks and sexy styling is just an added bonus

Strength:

Sporty and fun to drive. Handling and braking are excellent. No problems after 3000 miles. Good looks as well as more than adequate power (V6). This SUV would be perfect, except...see weaknesses)

Weakness:

Anyone thinking about buying this car should know that the fuel economy is much worse than advertized (it's actually 12-14 mpg city/18-20 highway), wind noise is very annoying starting at about 50-60 mph (but not intolerable), and yes, there is that distinct smell of gas when the vehicle is first started (the smell completely dissipates after about a minute).

This is a great buy if you're okay with the poor gas mileage and moderately annoying wind noise. Personally, I felt a bit cheated by the misrepresentation of gas mileage.
