Ford Escape (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Escape is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, and lead the small SUV class back when it was first introduced in 2001. Although changes have continued to be made to the Escape over the last ten years, its exterior and interior designs are looking dated compared to the competition.

The XLS FWD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 171-horsepower engine that achieves 22-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The Limited Hybrid 4WD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 153-horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 29-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The Ford Escape gets good fuel economy with its standard 4-cylinder engine and it offers a long list of high tech features and options such as the Ford SYNC entertainment system, programmable MyKey and active park assist, a system which allows the Escape to parallel park itself with very little driver involvement.

Strength:

A great all terrain vehicle that travels with comfort.

Weakness:

Parts wear out too quickly, built to a sub-standard of manufacturing.

This SUV handles magnificently on pretty much any terrain; snow, ice, mud, highway, dirt roads. This is a very comfortable vehicle. Too bad they fall apart. My first alternator lasted 42K miles. The second, 75K. The third, six days, 300 miles. The rear windshield wiper and rear defroster broke the first winter. All four brake pads and rotors had to be replaced after about 80K miles. It's only 4 years old and even with a bumper to bumper extended warranty, I've already had to pay out several thousand. My advice: if you haven't paid it off before the warranty runs out, you're screwed, so get rid of it ASAP.

Teriffic passing power at highway speeds. Its very quick.Mileage looks like 21 city 24 hwy. I'm pleased with that. I wear braces on my legs, and it is so easy getting in and out. Idle is soo smoth at a stop light you think it stalled. Comfortable seats, good vision front and rear, comfortable rear seat, etc.etc.I've only owned it for 5 weeks but I can already tell its far above the previous vehicle I've owned. The headlights and fog lamps are fantastic. Front wheel drive-independent 4 wheel suspension, 16" wheels and tires all makes for good handeling and cornering.200 horse power v6.

Weakness:

Don't like where the ignition is, hard to find and get the key in. Not too keen on the Continental tires, (Hwy noise.) I'm almost embarrased to put that in after the last 6 yearsd.

After owning a 2000 chevy blazer that was the nicest looking piece of junk I have ever owned, the escape is fantastic.
6 yrs.owning that blazer and over $10,000
in repairs. Thank god for that after market warranty. Ball joints 2 times, wheel bearings 3 times, manifold gaskets and about 12 other major things over the 6 yr period, I read these escape problems and to me its a joke. This escape is like
a dream. Quiet, powerful V6, No rattles, and no vibrations when I pump the great sounding 6 disc stereo. Hugs the road so nicely. I bought it used with 10,000 miles on it and I cant get over the engineering Ford put into this car. The ride is so smooth. Its an American made car, so I would expect a few problems over the years but folks I gotta tell ya, after driving that blazer for 6 years this car is a delight.I know chevy makes some good cars and some bad ones. Also Ford makes some good cars and some bad cars too. My advice to anyone buying a car, suv, or whatever it is, do your homework. Research the vehicle, do your homework. I've read hundreds of owner reports, J.D.Powers-Consumer reports, and a few other national organizations that test cars. The escape over all has done very well. What a great idea.An suv with front wheel drive, and the rear wheels kick in when slipage is detected. Living in Buffalo in Jan./Feb./Mar. I,m looking forward to this winter. The blazer was fantastic in a foot or two of snow, and This car should do as well. I did not do my homework when I bought the blazer. If I did I would never have bought it. The reports were terrible. If this car turns out to be a klunker, at least I wont feel bad because I diden't do my homework. The escape has got such a great feel on the road. I'm a middle aged man that had 5 children. I don't think its a car for a big family. One or two children would be about it. I've been a GM man for 40 years so as you can imagine, this was a big move for me buying a ford.

Strength:

Good fuel economy, comfortable and good compromise betweeh SUV capacity and economy. The V6 has a lot of power.

Weakness:

I would like storage spots for fire extinguider, first aid pack, jumper cables ETC: I would like to see a better design for the rear seats so the head rests do not have to be removed when they are folded down. The Ford Freystyle has nice rear seats.

I have driven the vehicle 20,000 miles trouble free. I get 24MPG on trips and 21MPG for everyday driving in our rural area. Hauling capacity is excellent, seats are great for a long trip.I am 66 and can drive 8 - 12 hours comfortably. A very handy vehicle for every day driving, easy to park and maneauver, no blind spots, and comfortable for 4 on a trip.

I shopped for 2 years and talked to a lot of owners, one of my friends is on their second Escape. I will pass this to my daughter after 3 years(i bought the extended warranty) and probably buy a Hybred Escape.

Strength:

Nice look, good hauling room

Weakness:

Transmission and customer service.

Overall has been a good car, but I can't overlook the fact that my transmission had to be replaced after 2.5 years of ownership and at 54,000 miles(bought new, since I wanted reliability, and maintained well). Out of warranty, so even though a Ford dealership did the work, Ford would do nothing to help with the $3,200 bill plus rental car expenses since it happened out of town - 5 hours away - had to go back to pick it up the next weekend. Not asking for much, just a good faith effort, but if it's not covered by warranty, they don't feel liable. My fault for not buying the extended warranty.

Great look, decent mileage, roomy and comfortable to drive

Weakness:

break dust, transmission problem, vacuum leaks, problem with break cylinder and overpriced parts!

I am extremely disappointed with this car. I bought it @ 50,000 miles and had nothing but trouble with it. Repairs are costly because the parts are so expensive! The transmission went out @90,000 and runs about $2,500 for a rebuilt one. The master break cylinder cracked @ 60,000 miles and other more minor repairs are constantly neccessary. I wanted to buy an Escape Hybrid but have changed my mind because of my experience.
