This truck was an excellent vehicle and saved my life and my husbands. Were were hit head on at 55 mph by a old Ford truck and came out without a scratch. When we hit the rear end of the truck came up in the air and we started rolling up an imbankment. This truck took the whole impact and saved us. I was so thankful I wasn't in my car on July 15, 2004 when this took place. I will again buy another one and trust this vehicle fully.

Plently of room for kids, camping gear, & dog. All the toys are included in teh Limited. People get out of your way when you are on the highway!

Weakness:

Brakes. 40 k miles and 2 full brake jobs including changing all 4 rotors. Next time I am upgrading to high performance drilled & slotted rotars with ceramic pads.

Great truck. Awesome looks and power. Milage is the same as with the conversion van i owned before. The van got 14 mpg & I am getting 13 mpg with the V10.

Strength:

Solid, towing, 8-ply truck tires, user-friendly, Ford's reliabilty.

Weakness:

Ride is stiff when not loaded. Need to pull a 500 gallon farm tank to feed the V-10. Only 8 seats, not 9, like a Sub.

Excursion is quite a vehicle, even compared to a Suburban. It's "super-duty" 3/4 ton chassis shores it up considerably. I've had many Suburbans. The Excursion is a better value--larger, more goodies, and less expensive.

I am very pleased with this vehicle. It is very comfortable, nice to drive and with the 6.0 Diesel / 5 speed auto combo, I am getting over 20 MPG highway, 17 in town. Visibility is excellent. The Excursion provides a safe feeling when driving it. Best SUV for the dollar. Plenty of room for anything. This truck does everything well! Not having to buy fuel often is a plus. With 1/2 tank of gas remaining we had a range of 440 miles. Leather heated seats and DVD a plus. Rear view mirrors are great. Excellent sound system. Overall, a delight to own and drive.

Strength:

Listed in order from our experience the main strengths are: 1 Visibility (my wife loves driving this vehicle, she is a farm girl but refuses to call it a truck) 2 Safety 3 Personal comfort 4 Power (with a full vehicle and average load of equipment or personal belongings there is ample acceleration to pass and cruising power - sometimes I catch myself climbing into the 130-140 kilometers per hour range because there is very little sense of speed) As a result I use cruise control. 5 Respect of the road - let's face it, you're in a bigger vehicle than most other drivers and can anticipate congestion or hazzards. 6 Sound System - for a "truck" (sorry dear) the sound is very full and does not have a tinny sound at all. I ahgve a friend that meets with me once a week at a youth event for our children. We take an hour to drive and play our favorite blues CD and tapes. 7 Storage. The spare tire is inside. I will never need to soil a suit or worry about knocking ice and salt off the spare. The balance to this is the awkwardness of unloading luggage to access the spare. 8 Fuel economy. 9 Cleaning accessibility. Height is a positive option for raod visibility but a limitatioin for young children or sennbiors even with a step. However, the door and entry grips are very strong and perfectly positioned.

Weakness:

There is a reair problem with rust along the bottom door seams. Ford will "help" with reapir, but they have not accepted enough responsibility for any damage this weakness has caused. Moisture becomes trapped inside the runner seal the way they are designed.

As a family of eight we searched for a vehicle that would provide space, travel safety, comfort and durability. We had owned a GM Suburban. The Ford Excursion provided superior service although the fuel consumption was less economical. I would highly recommend the Excursion for those who require room. When travelling there is a greater capacity to contain luggage and equipment inside ther vehicle were you preefer to have it within hand's reach. The roof rack is provided but because of the vehicle's height unless the trip is a lentghy one; it is unlikely that you will use this extensively. It is quite high to reach and would require a step to either reach into a Thule style strage container or to untie restraints. The leg room and personal space in all three rows of seating provides everyone with enough room to either read or eat a meal without disturbing each other. In our situation with six young children we find it convenient to separate certain siblings when conflicts or disagreements arise. Even when sleeping the benches have a partial split. On a humorous note, the back area is so roomy that you can fit a flyrod sideways in it. And - when you are transporting teenagers to the slopes, the back area is deep and high enough to store snow boards.

6.0 liter Diesel is the way to go Roomy and safe for family You don't pack your luggage - you just throw it in.

Weakness:

Looking for a big enough spot to park at the grocery store and learning how to treat and manage a diesel engine (6.0 liter) - But well worth it!!!!

What a great truck. Bought the Limited model with the new 6.0 liter diesel engine. What a dream and what great gas mileage. It's not a sports car... but I did not buy it for that purpose. Safe, roomy and holds the hold family and the dog... and cat on trip trips. Wanted this vehicle because of the 6.o liter diesel motor. It's quiet and smooth. I get 16+ in the city and 18 - 20 + on highway.

Weakness:

Parking, (although I rop my wife at the door as we all should and park in the furthest location to avoid over anxiuos people.

I purchased my XLT premium 7.3 diesel last year with 25,600 miles for $26,400. This vehicle has been a dream. I have had absolutely no problems. My Ford dealer in Forest Lake has been impecable in terms of assisting me with oil changes and routine maintanence. We drove our Excursion to Wash D.C last year. I drove at 67 mph loaded and got 21 miles per gallon hwy. The average MPH for our trip was 18.9 mpg. This vehicle is NOT chipped. I do not know where people get off saying this vehicle is clumsey. What do you expect. I had my family of six loaded in absolute comfort and extreme protection in a vehicle that is considered the largest on the road. It handled fantastic. If people drive this vehicle like they do their "Boxer" yes it will handle differently. However, if people drive it as it is intended this vehicle is wonderful. This vehicle equipted with the 7.3 is perfect. I pull my 20 ft lund to Canada and get a steady 15 mph totally loaded with all my buddies. Those of you who are critical of this vehicle obviously are mis-informed or driving it the way it is not intended.

I have always wanted a Excursion since they first came off the assembly line. I bought this one used with 10,000 miles on it. I love it and so does my wife. The room inside is more than my old Suburban and the ride far out distances the Chev. I love the interior set up and the seats are very comfortable. The barn door style is a tremdous advantage when loading the vehicle. All in all I am very please with vehicle. As far as service the motor on the rear right vent window was making nosie and was replaced under warranty. The only down side and it would really be my ow fault is that I chose a model w/ a v-10. Gas mileage is not that great other wise the vehicle is perfect.
